So. This is the prototype ring that H proposed to me with. My friend who made my ring was having lots of issues with the casting of the gold, so she sent the mock up so H could give me a ring. This was copper, with glass stones.
The nice thing about this was, I was able to make small design tweaks before the final was done, (mainly the addition of a small diamond in the middle of the Triforce) But at first I was a bit disappointed in the ring.
Any doubts I had once I got the final ring were gone when I saw it. I love it and can't imagine having a different one now. While it wasn't what I was expecting, it is based on my second favorite (Wind Waker FOR LIFE) Zelda game and has a lot of meaning between the two of us.
I totally forgot to clean my E-ring before my wedding so the milgrain detail looked a little funky. *hangs head in shame* Not what I would have picked myself but I LOVE it. Wouldn't change it for the world.
@Jell2dot0 I never get tired of seeing your ring. It's beautiful!
Thanks @emmaaa! I see my ring a lot more than I see my DH, so thankfully I love it LOL
I have to ditto that I never get tired of seeing your ring. I love my cushion cut ring, but man do I wish I knew about the asscher cut before H proposed because it really is gorgeous.
Here is my ring. Please excuse my pasty white hands and super dirty ring. I really need to get that thing re-dipped/cleaned.
no need to hang your head in shame, @lolo883! I have never had my e-ring cleaned! *gasp!*
I'm also terrible about cleaning mine. I need to learn a safe way to do it at home though, because *ick alert* sometimes the inside of the band gets sort of gunky and starts to irritate my skin. This disgusts me but I'm afraid I'll mess it up if I clean it at home.

When I do remember to clean mine, I soak it in a little bowl with warm water and dish soap, then gently brush it with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and air dry on a towel. I always take it off to put on lotion, hair products, makeup, etc so it doesn't get too gunky. And I use the power air dryer when I wash my hands at work to blow any remaining water or suds out of it and make sure my finger is dry underneath.

Our jeweler gave us a little thing of ring cleaning solution that's specifically meant for white gold and diamonds (or specifically safe for them, whatever). All I do is drop my ring into the little tray in there, and swish it around a little, and then take it out and buff it with the special cloth they gave me.
I've only cleaned it once, though :S I'm lazy and forgetful
ETA: it also came with a tiny brush to get down into all the details on the band, but the bristles on the brush aren't harsh enough to scratch the gold

I clean mine with Windex.
This is how I clean mine at home too. But as far as professionally cleaned? My e-ring has only been done once after I got it re-sized (so almost 5 years ago) and my wedding band has never been professionally cleaned since I picked it up. This is mainly due to the fact that the jeweler H used is about 45 minutes away and we rarely go down that way.
this is all good to know! I love me some windex! i didn't even think to clean the dang thing before the engagement pics last weekend.. sucks because it's such a beautiful diamond and you can't even see it in the pics! Windex here I come.. BONUS, maybe it will make me clean the mirrors too
THANKS EVERYONE for the advice I didn't think to ask for.. you learn something new every day.
Loving this thread, and everyone's nails are so pretty!! This is one from our engagement shoot. Ignore the nails. I had long, awesome nails and I broke one literally 2 hours before the shoot so I went for an emergency mani and she was awful.
ETA: Yes, that's the one ring from LOTR. I watched the series for the first time with FI and I was coincidentally online shopping the next day and found it and thought he'd love it. Looks like I wasn't paying attention because I didn't realize the actual ring was yellow gold and not white. Whoops. He forgave me

I think both of the bolded is what my jeweler friend did when she visited. I need to bother her again for exact details. I also have one of those little "dazzle stick" things but it's only for the stone, doesn't do much for the band.

Here's mine! And H's - this was the morning after we got married and I wanted to be cheesy. It also desperately needed to be cleaned and I forgot as well to get it cleaned before the wedding.

I use the dazzle stick on my stone and use a little bit of Windex on the band, then buff it with a jewelry cloth. If there's some serious ick stuck under the stone (happens with such a high setting), I toss it into a cup with warm water and baby shampoo before using a soft toothbrush to loosen the gunk.
Not our actual rings, but they look exactly like this. Exactly. Well ours are a bit more worn. Ours look like this when we shine them up all pretty like.
Love seeing some other pears @lilpep@lyndausvi ! You don't see them too often and that's why I wanted one
Not sure how well you can see this pic. NO idea what I'm getting for a wedding band yet since nothing seems to look quite right with my twisty band.
Funny story.
DH asked me one day what kind of diamond cuts I like. I said anything but marquis and pear. I HATE those cuts. The main reason is most settings tend to sit up high and the point can catch on things.
DH says "oh, my mom wants to give us her pear shaped diamond"
I felt so bad. Being the practical person I am thought it would be ridiculous to give up a nice diamond. I spent HOURS and HOURS looking for a setting that would work. At the time I was working on a sail boat. I wanted a setting I could wear everyday. So it could not sit up high or catch on things. It was not an easy feat.
Finally I saw a setting that could work with some tweaking. We took it down to the one-legged custom jeweler. Seriously the man looked like he was out of a pirate movie. Even lived on a boat. Together we came up with the setting. It worked great. The profile is very low. Doesn't catch on anything.
What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests. Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
Mine was my great grandmother's ring. I didn't think it needed a band, it's so dang gorgeous on its own. I also wear an emerald pinkie ring of my grandmother's (I had it resized to fit my right ring finger). I got so lucky in the family ring department!
They actually both wound up being my engagement ring. My mom had to get THE ring appraised and send it across the country, and it wasn't going to arrive in time, so H slipped the emerald ring off my right hand and asked me to marry him with that one.
My ring hasn't fit since I broke my finger last year. I need to get it sized. My engagement ring is the emerald, the one under that is a ring h bought me for my birthday.

I have been wearing my ring for almost 4 years. And I am still obsessed with it!

I had heard about the windex thing before. I shall try it tonight and will see how it turns out!!
