A little off topic but does anyone else find if hilarious that Christian Bale plated Moses in that movie Exodus? Idk why but that completely cracks me up.
They whited the shiiiiit out of that movie. For no reason at all.
I know! I really don't get it. They always do that with Biblical movies. The only person who looked remotely Egyptian in The Ten Commandments was Yul Brennar.

You know will be really unofficial? One of my best friends ask me if I could be her officiate for her wedding! Sooooo excited but of course it won't be legit because you know atheists can't marry people.
I just realized how special I am! My family is preparing for Passover. My Jewish mom and my (born and raised but abandoned it) conservative Christian dad are hosting. My uncle is running the ceremony with help from his husband. (The same uncles who my parents asked 35 years to adopt us if anything happened to them, who refused because they loved us thought it wouldn't be fair to us to have to deal with the discrimination.) The person reading the 4 Questions will either be my Muslim lesbian friend or The Kid, a Mexican Catholic. I will likely be seated to my Mexican Catholic husband, who will be playing with my little red headed Jewish/Polish mutt of a niece.
Multiple religions, ethnicities, and sexual orientations. And yet we can still love and respect each other and celebrate a traditional Jewish holiday.

We are clearly terrifying and wrong.
The best Passover I ever hosted was actually when I was the only Jew at the table, the person reading the 4 questions was Wiccan, the person pouring the wine was atheist, there was a Catholic, a Lutheran, and 2 other atheists. Everyone was so into learning the Passover traditions and loved hearing me speak Hebrew, and they were super enthusiastic about participating in all of it. It was awesome.
When I started reading this I didn't realize it was 7 pages deep so only got through a few pages.
I really can't believe that this law passed. People actually spend time making these laws happen? Isn't there a better use of that time?!?!?!
I also wanted to share some lyrics from a song from my favorite band, SOJA. If you have never heard of them they are pretty amazing with lyrics that really speak to you. So definitely check them out.
Their new Album has a song called "translation of one" talking about using the bible to justify your hate;
But we can’t go on pretending that we’re strong
Pretending that we’re better than everyone
And don’t blame God for your own hatred
That you direct unto his children, that’s you alone
One love, one love
That’s what you’re telling me
Except for “them,” never “them,”
They’re not your “family.”
That’s the same old story,
The same old ideology:
1492. 1861. 2014.
And then you blame it on the bible
And the pages written by who knows who
Then loosely got translated to 50 languages,
Now everyone’s “tradition” is hatred, loosely translated
Here's the lyrics video so you can hear the whole song - Clicky
This is not the only political craziness happening right now. In Arizona, State Senator Allen would like to require people to go to church, to restore the moral fiber of the state.

Some of the most infamous serial killers in history were church-goers. And we all know the issue of priests molesting little boys.
But yeah, everyone who goes to church has strong moral fiber. That's a definite thing. Church makes society moral. Ok.

So I don't follow this woman's logic. But this all started because AZ has a bill that would allow concealed weapons into public buildings. State Senator Allen said guns should not be an issue, its people moral fiber that are the issue. If they went to church, people would be nicer and less likely to use their weapons?

Well Utah and some southern states have an extremely high level of church attendance, and also an extremely high level of gun deaths, sooo...... Maybe she should spend 30 seconds googling some basic facts, like I did. And I just did it out of curiosity, not because my job depends on me knowing shit like this. Facts are fun.
Guys, I'm feeling too much simultaneous rage and warm fuzzies for this early on a Friday. Shouldn't have clicked. Should not have clicked.
I would like to add something kind of tangential though, if you're all okay with that...
About eight years ago, I was threatened with firing when I told my manager I wanted to refuse to serve an obviously pregnant woman a second, then a third double margarita, which I was feeling pretty morally against, though, and that was not awesome. Like, I'm not here to judge if a pregnant woman has a bit of alcohol, as I understand a lot of doctors are cool with it, even if it might not be how I would do pregnancy. But six ounces of tequila for a weekday dinner seemed like maybe I was actually going to be responsible for killing her baby's brain cells, you know?
I served it, because I needed that job at the time and I felt like maybe it wasn't my place to be telling a stranger what to do with her still-unborn child and I was just the one giving her what she'd asked for, not offering at any point. But I'm still not sure if I'm okay with it, honestly. But what would TK have done, in light of this discussion? I understand it's not exactly the same because it's not a religious objection, just a moral one. But still. It all made me think of it.

That's a tough one. I agree it seems like a lot of alcohol for being preggo and I certainly wouldn't drink that much. Though I do think the occasional glass is fine. But then again, that's what I would do personally.
At the end of the day, you can't control or have a say in what other people do with their bodies.

It's a tough one, but at the end of the day not your uterus, not your business.

I heard about this one too. She's up in Snowflake (small town) and we're pretty sure it'll get killed fast. She's like 79. I mean it's wrong to think this...but she's a crazy old lady and lets hope no one really listens to her. I mean, it violates first amendment (freedom of religion is also freedom from religion) and I have no idea how'd they enforce it anyways.
Did you go to to church today? Yep sure did, in my living room, watched one of the TV preachers. Praise Jesus.

Honestly, I would've served her. Do I think you should be knocking back tequilia when you're pregnant? No. But do I have any proof she is in fact pregnant? Nope. I mean, unless you did a pelvic exam on her before she started drinking. A lot of women still look pregnant after having just given birth.
Or, and this is super terrible and super sad, maybe the pregnancy wasn't viable any longer and she just hadn't had a D&C performed yet. I'd be knocking back some drinks then too.

I'd make her a virgin margarita and I wouldn't feel bad about it in the slightest. 2 margaritas in she probably couldn't taste the booze anyway.
I'm all for people doing what they please with their bodies, but I don't have to be complicit in harming someone. It's not just "omg the poor unborn fetus!" It's "omg I'm not going to be the one to do it. She can go buy a bottle of tequila and pour it herself at home if she wants to drink that badly."
ETA: bartenders cut people off all the time when they've had too much. One could argue the poor judgment shown by this woman was an indicator that she was over her limit.

TL/DR parents are in an uproar trying to get a country song pulled because they THINK it's about a lesbian relationship, even though IT ISN'T EVEN.
Damn...wait until they hear Follow Your Arrow.
The lyrics are "Make lots of noise, kiss lots of boys, or kiss lots of girls if that's what you're into". There are even a few out country singers now (not a lot and not big names but they're there). And believe me, country music has always had a gay following. I went to see Wynona Judd when she was in town. Bunch of lesbians and gay boys. We love our country divas.

I had all these thoughts as well , along with the "not my uterus, not my business" one and I mean, I did it in the end. I was very confident she was actually pregnant, as it was one of those "skinny little girl with a beach ball under her shirt" kind of things...but at the end of the day I guess that's not the point, because it wasn't my business. It felt bad but I do think it was the right thing to do in the end.
I'm not religious in any way, so it's hard for me to understand sometimes why people can't just get over themselves, join the 21st century, and give everyone the same service when they're working. But then I remember how I felt that night, giving that woman all that booze, and I try to use it to help me see the other side. Just because I think it's bigoted madness not to do my job because of a customer's gender, orientation, whatever, doesn't mean it's not a huge struggle for someone else, whether that's right or wrong. So...yeah. It's not a perfect analogy but it's kind of helped me feel a bit of empathy even for people I think are very, very wrong.

I still don't know if I'd be able to stomach serving someone I thought could be heavily pregnant, but this does change things a bit.

Stupid NONBOXES :
My sister and I went to the mall after she had a baby. The clerk saw her my sister's baby girl and said, "You must be so happy, a new little girl and a baby on the way." My sister told her she just had a baby and she is not pregnant. She went on to say that the media likes to show post pregnancy unicorns falsely depicting what an average body looks like post partum. The clerk said, "Are you sure you're not pregnant." My sister was pissed. She told me she would have had a margarita at lunch if people didn't think she was pregnant.

I mean... does this person even understand how science works? "Yes, I have a 2 month old baby and I'm 6 months pregnant. They had bunk beds in there, more room for activities."

Also, Princess Kate leaving the hospital, AFTER giving birth:
quite the baby bump. Yet, we know there's no baby in there....
Wifey was really disappointed to learn that sitcoms and Star magazine had been lying to her for years and she would not have a flat tummy the second after she gave birth.
