Unpopular Opinions

Let's chat.

I don't think most murderers can be rehabilitated.  And I'd rather see them rot in jail then put to death.  If we choose to kill someone, how are we any better than the murderer?  I think having to live with their actions and thoughts every day is a worse punishment than the release of death.  Their cells should be wallpapered with pictures of their victims.

Your turn.

I'm not saying my opinion is fact, nor am I saying my opinion should dictate anybody's choice about what kind of dog they get, but I think pitbulls have a mean streak a mile wide and you can't love it out of them. I choose not to own one and I choose not to interact with them because of this.

I basically hate anything from Coach with Cs plastered all over it.

I also really dislike wearing anything with the logo of where it is from all over it.

Congrats.  You just paid the company money to be a walking, talking advertisement for that establishment.  It should be the other way around,

I agree on the death sentence part.  I think life without parole is much more deserving.  i hate the part that taxpayers are paying for them though.  But as for not being rehabilitated and released.  Do you feel that way for anyone who kills someone, or just murder?  I agree if its a pre-meditated murder, or done during a robbery, attack, etc.  But vehicular manslaughter is totally different if its from a car accident (not running someone down), or something like that completely unintentional.  So do you think killers all in one with that, or just cold-blooded killers?

I refuse to speak to people who cannot fluently speak English but they live here anyways. I'm not about to move to Germany with my knowledge from HS language class.

I would rather kill a murderer, eye for and eye and all that.

ETA: By murderer I mean pre-meditated, cold straight up murder.

  • I'm not sure if mine qualifies as an unpopular opinion because I just may not understand. I think that when people have "Cake and Punch" weddings it sounds absolutely disgusting. Punch, really? I'm not one for cake or sugar drinks. Is this the type of wedding where they would serve a large amount of appetizers or is it legit cake and punch?

  • I feel badly for people when their friends/family don't throw them showers, either for a wedding or baby.  I know it's a gift, and no one's obligated, and all that, but I can understand being hurt if no one is throwing you one.

*with the exception of those who turn into major AW 'zillas, when they are either getting married or pregnant.

Plus I'm the weirdo that loves throwing showers for people.

You realize this would mean the end of humans right?  Because someone would then have to kill you and someone would have to kill them and so on and so on.

I don't think killing people is a good way to show that you shouldn't kill people.

Well, yeah, sometimes.  Here's an example:  Mgietler's unpopular opinion about refusing to speak to someone who lives in the US but it is not fluent in English.

Some of the unpopular opinions are, in my own opinion, so thoughtless and foolish and often downright mean-spirited that they definitely affect my opinion of someone.  If the opinion is ridiculous enough, then yes, it can make me not like someone, at least for a while.

Anyway, that was my unpopular opinion.  I know these threads are generally well-regarded.

Ha. I wouldn't be speaking to half our client base if I thought this way.  I can understand being frustrated sometimes at the language barrier, but you won't speak with them at all?   That just seems harsh.

I don't consider vehicular manslaughter murder.  It probably wasn't intentional, so they're not out on the streets looking to run people down.  If it was caused by drunk driving though... well, that's a whole other can of worms.

  • I know plenty of Americans who don't speak fluent English. Just sayin'.
  • I don't think someone should have to be fluent in English, but you should have a general grasp on the language if you want to live here without a ton of problems.   Just for your own convenience.  Just like I wouldn't waltz into another country not knowing a lick of the language and expect to get by.

Mgietler, that may one of the stupidest things I've ever read.  Most of us have ancestors (my great-grandparents, in this case) who came to this country to seek a better life for themselves.   They didn't even have high school, much less high school English to learn before coming here.

So . . . unless a person speaks fluent English (and how, exactly, would say a war survivor from Rwanda learn English?), you refuse to speak to them?  Because they shouldn't have moved here?  Despite war, famine, persecution, whatever in their native country  - they should learn fluent English first?  WTF?

I was thinking the same thing- probably at least half of the people I speak to every day do not speak English as a first language.

Though I don't want to push 1 for English...I don't refuse to speak to people who don't fluently speak English.

But a good point is made here that if we moved to Germany, Italy...any foreign nation that has it's own language, we would be expected to learn how to communicate effectively.
