I feel like people on these forums have nothing better to do than bash on other brides and how they chose to carry out their weddings. Im pretty sure the people bashing were once sensitive and concerned brides at one point! I thought we were here to support each other. Not tear each other down!

Ok, what was your bad idea and who didn't validate it for you?. . . . . I see, a honeymoon registry made ok because it's accompanied by a cute poem.

Really, knotties are supporting you by trying to help you not make a poor decision.

Example:  Little Johnny tries to run into traffic. . . . . by your post, you want us to clap and cheer as he does so because it makes him happy and he really wants to do it.  In the long run, however, isnt it better that we pulled him back and told him it was a bad idea?

OMFG no one was bashing you! They told you that it was not a good idea to do this. We are here to support each other, but we are NOT here to validate bad ideas. 

On a personal level, I think honeyfunds are tacky. And I think adding a cutesy poem to anything makes something tacky even tackier. 

You also have to realize that your closest family and friends may not be completely truthful with you because they may not want to hurt your feelings. At the end of the day, it's your wedding, do what you want. You can take our advice or leave it.

We are here to support other brides by giving them advice on how to plan a wedding that is etiquette correct.  That way they can realize that some things are not ok to do because doing that thing means that they are being rude to their guests.

If brides choose to ignore the etiquette conscious advice we give them, than they have no one to blame but themselves when they find out that their family and friends are talking about how awfully rude their wedding was.

Nobody's bashing anybody. If an idea gets bashed, it's because it's a shitty idea. Better to hear it here than to have your friends and family talk behind your back about how shitty it is. Nobody's out here saying "I can't believe you want daisies at your wedding; daisies are the shittiest flower."

OP, when I first started reading the message boards I thought the tone could get a bit harsh sometimes too. Until I realized that the ladies on here really, genuinely CARE, and their main concern is helping out. Granted, every so often you will see a post that maybe crosses the line a bit, and feel free to call that person out when it happens. But overall, no one is here to be mean. No one is here because they "don't have a life," and no one would bother to spend time replying to posts if they didn't want to help. 

People didn't agree with you. Maybe that offends you. But take a deep breath, accept some constructive criticism, and stop being offended. Trust me, these Knotties are total life savers. They've helped me out more times than I can count. And yeah, they can be brutally honest. But if you didn't want honest opinions, then why did you ask in the first place?

That's how I am with lemurs and fruit bats. At the Cleveland Zoo, the fruit bats are in this huge enclosure with lots of space in front of it, so I sit right there on the floor and just watch them. I absolutely love bats.

Wait, now I'm seriously confused. I went and read the honey-fund thread. I know the general opinion of those on this board so I expected some posts to be brutally, brutally honest. But I thought ALL of the replies were really very nice, and very helpful. People were giving genuine advice on the appropriate way to get money as gifts. So... really. What's the problem?

Full disclosure, at my mom's behest, I once researched what it takes to keep a penguin as a pet. It's on my "what I'll do if I have a billion dollars" list.

Mother of pearl. None of these people hunted you down to bash an internet stranger's wedding. YOU came on an ETIQUETTE forum and asked if something was a faux pas. People said yes and you're all miffed about it. For God's sake, just do whatever you want since you clearly will no matter what anyone here says. Good luck having a great trip with the minimal "donations" you'll get since people WILL think this is rude. Oh and then whatever site you use will collect their fees and you'll get even less. Yay.

I think all the regulars on here got our asses handed to us once or twice. I'm in the twice category. I stick around because a) these people are awesome. b) they give me adorable gifs when I need them.

That being said, if you would have lurked around, like it's suggested all over the place, you couldn't be in this situation. There should be some kind of rule where if you haven't lurked for at least an hour you can't post.
