Really loving the season thus far.  Bob - meh; didn't like the character much.

    My questions:

Abraham - how is his hair so trimmed as is his beard?  Rick and Daryl look like they haven't cleaned up in months....

Oh, and Michonne - cut off them dreads girl - just something for the walkers to grab hold off.  I think I'd be wearing my hair short and always a hat.

Plus, there is NO reason for any of them to be running around in the same clothing.  There should be plentiful new and used stuff around in abandoned stores and houses.  Gross.

I also wonder how the ladies take care of their monthly.  Like, so they become super attractive to walkers?  Are they using disposables or the DIVA cup?
I would also have like a pixie cut or something. The less maintenance the better. I think they take care of monthlies and shaving because they find that stuff probably everywhere, just like clothes. Honestly, I think I would learn to use a diva cup. Can you imagine how annoying it would be to carry tampys everywhere?

Although my thought is that they don't have very heavy periods because they are half starved at all times.

Maybe since they are more or less always covered in blood, they just let it go? It's less gross than other people's blood.

Personal grooming would seem to be a priority - just to stay healthy and that can be done without electricity.  Short hair would seem the smartest thing ever.  I don't mind beards on the men, but some of them are crazy and others are nicely groomed.  How does that happen?

Although my thought is that they don't have very heavy periods because they are half starved at all times.

Agreed, but somebody's still got to have it.  Maggie?  Girl, don't get preggers!

Yeah, then change those clothes!  LOL

My thing is the more you kill like that, the more desensitized to it you must become. Despite the fact that the Termites deserved it, to have done it that way now will make it that much easier to kill another person just as brutally for a less justified reason.

  • The beards make sense to me because in real normal life some men are very well groomed and some just let that shit go. I don't see why that would change? I think the personal grooming and beauty is a comfort from the old world, so I can see why some people do it. However, others might think it's completely unnecessary and don't.

I agree. Wasn't there some code in the beginning where they would not kill the living? That has definitely changed to "we have to kill the living." They could now decide that other groups of living people are just bad, without giving them a chance first, and brutally slaughter them "for their own protection." Not saying they'll actually go that far, but yeah they would become desensitized to it.

  • I finally watched the episode last night. I don't know why but I always seem to fall asleep right before it comes on!

I was extremely sad to see Bob go. I think he had a great story and was always very optimistic. I also wonder about the tainted meat and how that would have ultimately effected the group.

I was also glad that they got rid of the Terminites so early. I did NOT want to see it drag on all season.  I did not mind how they killed him. It was ultimately self-defense and defending other people. I think they took out all of their anger and aggression on them. But I could see how it could lead them down a dark path where their moral lines are blurred.

Michone getting her sword back made me so happy. I wanted to do a happy dance.

I'm pissed Maggie and Glenn left but understand why they did. I really hope they follow that group to keep us in the loop.

I don't know if Carol will be with Daryl. At first, I immediately thought he was going to say she was dead. I wonder if it may be Beth and then they will show us in a flashback what happened to her. I also think it could be Morgan and he helped them find Beth.

Regarding hair and periods and stuff. I would definitely use the zombie apocalypse as an excuse to try out a pixie cut. Less maintenance and I've always been to chicken to try it out. I would learn to use a DIVA cup. I would also try to retain any normalcy possible like shaving and bathing and wearing deoderant when possible.

Exactly.  But I'd add that staying clean also keeps you alive.  I'm talking bathing, hand & face washing...  As I heard someone ask recently, "what happened to staph?"  It would be even scarier if regular, everyday killers were also treated as deadly on the show.  I mean, what the hell was in that food bank slush besides walkers?  Germs.  That's what.  Killer germs.  I think it would have been difficult to eat the food sitting down there for so long.

  • All the times they've had to pick up and leave, nobody would have wanted to take up a bunch of room/weight in their pack for soap, shampoo, deodorant, razors, tampons, etc. There's no running water; how are they supposed to be bathing?? Plus staying dirty helps keep the walkers from being able to smell them. Sense of normalcy be damned; it's been nearly 2 years of this, they would have let most of that go.

  • This is all I can think of:

    image

    Substitute walkers for bears.

That being said, tampons seem the safest route.

I would definitely be packing some tampons if I was on the go.  I'm also in the camp that says I would be trying to stay as clean as possible, mostly because it makes sense for health reasons.  Can you imagine if they gave up with hygiene altogether?  Disease would run rampant.

We often forget how much good hygiene matters when we are so easily able to be clean and healthy in modern life.  Keeping your teeth clean could also mean the difference between life and death (since there wouldn't be any dentists around to fix a rotten and infected tooth.  Not only that, but an infected tooth can damage your heart and even kill you if the bacteria spreads).  And if you did lose your teeth, that would really cut down your ability to eat whatever meager food is available.

I'd probably be rocking a pixie cut since it would be less hair for the walkers to grab onto (seriously, a pony tail just seems like a terrible idea).

If they did have a safe space (like Woodbury or the Prison) there probably was a lot more "normalcy" than on the road.  They definitely could have stocked up on luxuries like deodorant, razors, or multiple outfits.

  • @Ndelible‌ I think it was one of the guests on Talking Dead that mentioned a staph infection and I was like, "they are completely right."

Carrying a tooth brush, soap, a razor, brush, feminine products and clean clothes in a backpack is easier than you may think. So is bathing. As long as you are near a water source, you can bathe. You won't be as clean as taking a shower in your home but it would be something.

As others said, if we didn't pay attention to hygeine then all the healthy, non zombie, folks would die from all sorts of diseases.

  • They still wouldn't be bathing/shaving/trimming beards every day. It would be once every other week or so. They just don't have the time/security to do that.

  • DH and I just caught up.
    Tainted meeaaattt!!
How the hell did Bob get bit on the shoulder?  I'm going to have to rewatch that episode.  I didn't think the walker was anywhere close to that area.

I was happy to see Michone get her sword back - but I don't think she is.  I think when she was with Rick coming back from the food bank she said she's happier without it.  What if getting it back encourages her to focus on the negative things and the things that were?

I'm glad they killed the Terminus people quickly in the season.  I'm not glad they did it so brutally.  By now they know how to dispatch of a person quickly.  I get that the extra was to get a point across, but I think that's going to cause divides in the groups.

I'm sure that we will follow Maggie and Glen and the others heading to DC.

I don't think Daryl was talking to just Beth and Carol.  I think the group that took Beth is holding the women hostage and they sent Daryl ahead to see what was going on and to throw Rick and the rest of them off balance.

  • GAH, I hate being so busy on the weekends. I have to avoid this thread like the plague until mid week when i've watched!

    Thoughts:

Bob:  I was meh on his character, but I REALLY liked him & Sasha. I was really hoping that someones theory from this thread was going to turn out to be the case -- That he was bitten in the leg and that the Terminus people cutting it off saved him (like Hershel). But I guess it would have probably been too late by that point anyway. I am really glad that he died with "his people" though. I didn't want to see Sasha stuck in that "he is still out there somewhere; I have to find him" rut. I don't want to see them stuck at the church for too long. I am already getting bored of that whole thing.

Termites and their death, etc: I, too, am disappointed that we didn't get to see the result of them eating the tainted Bob meat. I also think that Rick's "we don't want to waste bullets" excuse was BS/sarcasm. But I am not necessarily upset about the way that they killed them. Good fucking riddance.

Maggie and Glenn leaving: As much as it sucks that they are being split up, I am glad that they went. I think that their presence with the DC group will ensure that we see more of what's going on with that whole "get the cure to DC" storyline. It was obvious that the DC people weren't going to stick with the group, so I think that this was the best possible outcome. And at least the two of them are together.

Daryl/Carol/Beth: Of fucking course they show up a few hours after the bus leaves. I agree that Daryl was visibly upset/shaken, but not upset enough for Carol to be dead/gone, I don't think. I think that she was waiting in the woods, perhaps because she is seriously injured or something. She isn't the "wait behind while the man checks it out" type (anymore), so something must be wrong. I don't know if Beth is with them, but I kind of hope not. I mean, we know she is probably going to get rescued/escape/whatever (they cant kill her right? RIGHT? I LOVE HER.), but if she is with Daryl, then we already know for sure. Seeing her weird hospital experience as a flashback, knowing that she makes it out, just doesn't seem as dramatic/bad as seeing it real-time. I would rather them leave us with the little twinge of "what if she doesn't make it out?"

The end (for now). Here, have this gif.

I definitely agree with you on that. I usually only shower every few days now anyways.

    There wasn't one.

Some people are speculating that Beth will come out of the woods with Carol because she and Daryl rescued her. If that is true, the scenes of her in the hospital that we have see in previews would have to be flashbacks. I don't like the idea of it being a flashback as a storyline.

BUT, if you watching Talking Dead (we do just to make fun of Chris Hardwick's huge Adam's apple), on the first episode, the writer and director both said that they plan on playing with timelines this season to keep the audience off-guard.  So I think this flashback idea is a distinct possibility.

  • I hope that they have some kind of a good story for Beth - I haven't missed her not being on...she's so, well, bland.

  • Haven't they done flashbacks before?? It was always flashbacks to before the walkers, but still. I like flashbacks, and I wouldn't mind it at all. I kind of think whereever beth was made her crazy and we will see how she is now and then what happened to her to make her that way AT THE SAME TIME. Woah.

Yeah, they've done them before to pre-zombie stuff. I wouldn't mind some flashbacks either if it's done well.
