It wasn't bothering me. Are you not seeing it? She was in pain. A lot of it. She didn't take well to other treatments (wrapping it, E collar). It was our last option. So fcking sorry.

It just floors me that you try ONE training class (I mean one set of classes, not just going to one session), you try ONE crate, you try ONE way of walking (nightly) and when those things don't work you blame the dog and give up.

Dude, dogs are sort of like people. Exercising at night doesn't work for me, I need mine in the morning. If one particular college professor and I didn't mesh, I didn't swear off the whole subject. If something isn't working, TRY SOMETHING ELSE.

    It's not rocket science.

Also, if money is SO tight, why are you buying $100 shoes and spending all this time on the knot when you could get a 2nd job or find a way to increase your cash flow? Ditto Shaydenise, how is making her an outside dog now a better solution when you said awhile back that putting dogs in the hot Texas sun is cruel? Oh right, it's all FI's decision again. Of course.

I find it ridiculous that you are placing the onus on us to ask you all the little details about this before forming opinions, when all you said was "my dog chewed my shoes, we're giving her away." Next time give all the information first, and if you don't then you shouldn't complain about the reception you've gotten here.

OP, your trainer sucks. You can't reason with a dog by showing them what they did wrong and popping them on the nose. They don't remember doing it and all they are getting is that you hit them.

It sounds like you're really frustrated and that's certainly not helping when your dog is picking up on your attitude and demeanor. At least try to find a no kill shelter or rescue group, because this dog does not deserve to die just because you don't have the time/patience/energy/money to spend making him a good pet.

We keep our shoes in the garage, on the wall. It works out really well. Our dogs don't chew on anything besides shoes, either, so it was a simple solution. If they do chew on them, it's our fault for leaving them out. What kind of dog is it? I agree with PP that maybe it's better if it finds a home with an owner that's willing to train & take care of it, but the problem of eating shoes is a really actually a minor one. The recommendations of exercise (we walk/run our dogs 2 times daily, almost every day) and taking them to a good doggie day care could really, really help, but again these things take time, money and patience.
