[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Can we judge things? : Because who gives a crap if you have granny panties when you're TWELVE? They're comfortable. No one will be seeing them. And it's not like you need to worry about VPL because a twelve year old shouldn't be wearing clothing that makes VPL a possibility.

You can have a panty line in jeans.  My required choir pants (not even tight) gave me a bad panty line.

[QUOTE]PLEASE, tell me about when Christ was really born!! I have been looking for backup as to why we celebrate it in December and can't seem to find it where i am looking. I DO NOT judge people for their religious beliefs because they beileve what they believe just as strongly as I believe what I believe. I just don't like Xmas. Seems like you are X'ing Christ out.

No one knows the month, but the year was sometime between 7BCE and 4BCE. So our calendar is a little off. I guess it should be 2014-2017 already.

Or if your butt is a funny shape and size resulting in NO underwear properly covering it without falling off which then makes it all bunch up and just look funny :(  Don't make fun of my butt!

Or do you mean people who follow a religion just because their parents raised them in that faith and they haven't explored or looked into things outside of it?

</div><div>I judge both situations. I think they show a lack of intelligence and critical thinking skills. If someone has done research and educated themselves on that religion and others and still chooses the religion of their parents, then so be it. I can't excuse people who believe something without researching the alternatives, though. </div>

  • I judge people who don't do their historical research and make stupid statements as "fact".

  • I mean people like MC who say they "were just raised that way" and have no clue why they celebrate when they do, or really anything about the religion apparently.  It's not just her, but I get it a lot.

I was raised Lutheran, and what I loved most about my church was confirmation.  For an entire year, we went to a different 'worship' every week to see what other beliefs celebrated.  No, we didn't get an entire history, but we were at least exposed.  We also learned the history behind the religion, even if it *Gasp* wasn't in the Bible.

At church this week we had an awesome history lesson about how Jesus was born in July and yet we celebrate his birth in December...PP mentioned most of it (related to pagan celebrations at the time) but the sequence of events that led to it is amazing. Pretty much Caesar Augustus decided to make the whole Roman Empire Christian (in like 400AD) and in order to do so they had to stop 'worshipping' other gods/idols and what not, and also to 'convince' the masses that it was what had to happen so (as was previously said) they took over the Winter Solstice celebrations...then later when Christianity hit Europe they mixed it in with a tradition that involved having a tree with lights on it to ward off evil spirits (hence Christmas trees) and when the Industrial Revolution hit the idea of mass amounts of gifts took over. Very little of it has anything to do with Christ and 'Christmas' itself didn't exist for the first 400 years after the birth of Christ, up until then they really only celebrated the death and resurrection.

Also cool, for completely other reasons...the 3 wise men, not wise men. They were actually magicians. The proper translations for their names in greek/Aramaic/whatever language that book was actually written in is Magi, so magicians who studied the stars (hence why they followed a star)...

  • Also, this is why I attend the church I do...we are told to ask questions, to question the bible, to question our beliefs, what we think 'we know' and why we 'know' it...I learn so much and in the end am actually a million times more accepting of others.

    I feel the same way.

Also, part of what I love about Christmas is the original pagan beliefs and how they've been adapted to fit Christian beliefs, like the concept of the unconquerable sun (celebrated withthe solstice, if I'm not mistaken), which is used to tie into Jesus, the Unconquerable Son.  I think it's interesting and makes the beliefs/traditions celebrated tie into many different cultures.

  • Oh I know what I judge. I judge these two people at work who just found out today that for the past month THEYVE HAD SHINGLES (theyre married). Theyve just been walzing around the office scratching thelseves all over the place, and found out on friday and still came into work. I dont care WHAT you think, that shiit can be contageous. I am SO skeeved out by it, I dont want them anywhere near me. I just seriously judge people who know they could affect others with an illness or whatever and go into work anyways. Selfish.
