My brother lived in the city and had a female pit, someone broke into his apartment and she attacked him. The would-be thief sues and my brothers dog gets put down because she's a dangerous breed and wasn't in a crate. Total BS

This absolutely disgusts me! I hate people sometimes. I don't have a pit but I do have a huge dog and one that is a chow chow/german shepherd mix who is the sweetest dog ever, unless you threaten me for FI. Then she will growl at you and if you don't back down she will attack you. Don't break into my house and/or attack me and my dog will be nice to you.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Unpopular Opinions : I agree. I also sometimes think that the girls who post with "just let them pick their own dresses and stop being so controlling" are just jumping on the bandwagon. I think that when you agree to be a BM, you agree to wear the dress the bride picks out, provided it's not hugely slutty, outregeously expensive, or offensive in some way. Sometimes, BMs just need to STFU. It's one day and it's not your wedding. Wear the damn dress. I also think that parents paying shouldn't mean they get to plan the party THEY want, not the B&G. They should be helping because they love their son or daughter and want them to have a fantastic wedding, not so they can throw the wedding they always wanted for themselves. That being said, it's not often the case so it's just wasier to pay for it yourself.

[QUOTE]I think pitbulls are inherently aggressive dogs and while how you treat them does have a GIANT effect on how they behave (I'm not discounting that at all), I think at some point in a pitbull's life, no matter how well you've trained him, that aggression is going to come out and hurt someone.

This is a terrible misconception about pits and other large dogs. Bad breeding and poor raising of the dog is what makes dogs aggressive.
• I don't want to go to every David's Bridal with all my BM's so they can decide on a dress. I've gone 3 times now and I can't say "I really don't care what you wear" anymore! It may be unpopular but why can't they just pick a dress and be done with it? And why do I need to be there if I already said long and purple and not everyone has to wear the same?

I have a large dog. Large dogs don't bother me. Given my personal experience with pit bulls and their aggression, I choose not to own one. I'm not begrudging anyone who does, and I certainly don't think they should ever be mistreated. All I'm saying is that owning a pitbull is a risk I'm not willing to take and I have little sympathy when someone's pitbull misbehaves. It's a pitbull, it's probably going to hurt someone. Every single person I've known who's owned one has had it attack a friend or family member.

ETA: The people I knew who had pitbulls were some family members and a close friend. Obviously, I wasn't privy to every single day of the dogs' upbringing, but these aren't people who mistreat dogs and set out to enhance their aggression.

I can understand your feeling this way because of personal experience but you can't lump all pits into one category because of your experience. My brother has owned pits his whole life and the only time one of his attacked a person was the guy who broke into his apartment.
• So because all of the pits you've known have attacked someone/thing, they are all going to? Me thinks no!

I'm not saying they're not a "high-risk" breed to have, but any dog can turn on you. Not just pits. My neighbors fuzz balls are more aggressive than my pits.

It is true that pit bulls grab and hold on. But what they most
often grab and refuse to let go of is your heart

Sure I can. It's an unpopular opinion. And you may be right. Maybe not all pits are bad dogs. But I'm of the opinion that they are, no matter how you raise them. No one's going to convince me otherwise. It's not like I think people shouldn't be allowed to own them. If you want to do that, that's your business. It's just not for me.

And isn't that what you're doing too? Saying properly raised pitbulls are good dogs because that's your experience?

The government will end up having to provide rehab... no money saved there!

Do you REALLY think it will make people either quit drugs or run out and find jobs? No, not happening.

I truly *wish* it would work, but it would just uncover a bunch of problems that the government does not want to fix.

God I am so on board with this. Like I was saying yesterday Ben wants a dog - and because of where we're going to live, it has to be a small-ish dog. But just because we can't have a huge dog (which I would prefer) it doesn't mean we have to have some yappy, hyper little fur ball like a damn Yorkie or Maltese.

I'm going to be doing what I can to make sure we get a more medium sized dog. Or at the very least... the biggest small dog I can find.

Does any of this make sense?

• FWIW, Lauren, I agree with you. My opinion is based on my own experiences as well. However, I have also seen a lab snap and bite someone, and I still want a lab one day. I know I'm a hypocrite, but the bite from the lab was one bite. The pit attacks I have seen have been vicious and unstoppable. My friends' dad has a permanent hole in his hand because one of his pits, who he raised from a puppy and treated awesomely, decided to attack him one day. Her mom tried everything she could to get the dog to let go and quit mauling him (a broom, water, cattle prod, whatever she could get her hands on) and she eventually had to shoot the dog. She cried for months about having to shoot that dog, and wondered where they had gone wrong in raising him. I think it was the dog's nature.
