• I hate a lot of the wedding vendors I've talked to.

Michael and I had our 1st choice pick for locations and when we went for our meeting, the lady was a monster. Michael asked her a question and she said "Well it's not up to you, it's her day." That ticked him off, but we continued talking...he asked another question and she said "Oh my gawd, just shut up, this isn't even about you." We started walking out, and I said "I like to let him speak, I'm a diick like that." People make me crazy.

• Ok, let me start by saying what Michael Vick did was reprehensible, and I am so happy he was punished.

Now, let me also say that there are a lot of people currently playing professional sports that did much, much much worse things and were allowed to play again. You know Ray Lewis of the Ravens? He was indicted for MURDER, and the only reason he got off was because he turned state's evidence against his accomplices. He paid a fine, and was allowed to play. There are dozens of pro athletes that have been arrested for domestic abuse, assault, etc. and are playing. If you want to get mad and say that someone should not be allowed to play, I think we should start with these guys. I am not saying Vick should not be punished. He should have. But look around at some of the other guys and get fired up about that too.

• I love my Pit and will defend the breed till I die, but I do understand the concern and would never judge someone for not wanting to own one, or be around them. I will however judge you harshly if you think the breed should be banned or destroyed. (or any breed for that matter). I cant tell you that it is wrong to be afraid of any dog, just as you cant tell me its wrong to own a certain breed. I think its more fair to judge owners who are irresponsible, than the dog. All of the highly respected dog organizations and temperament testing organizations rank Pits high in temperament and non-aggression. That should speak for something. But only you know what is right for you and your family.

I dont think any convicted felons should be allowed to play professional sports.

I think welfare should come with a time limit. I think 2 years is fair. In my state you can be on welfare for life and there is little to no investigation into welfare fraud here.

I dont think it is unreasonable to expect immigrants to learn english. To become a citizen, you have to pass an english equivalency exam, so I dont think the expectation is outrageous.

I strongly dislike cats. Every cat I have ever met has scratched the fvck out of me and I have the scars to prove it.

I think the school day should be longer.

I think we should build a massive wall on our southern border with armed guards.

• I think couples who stay together "for their kids" will ruin their lifes.
I love my Mom, I love my Dad. But if my Mom wouldn't have left my Dad, I would have a lot less respect for her. I have a lot better outlook on what I deserve and what I shouldn't put up with because of how my parents handled their divorce.

I also think that teen/adult children should stay out of their parents' relationships.
My step sis objected to my mom marrying her dad until she was a freshman in college. Get over it, he deserves to be happy. You're being a brat.

And my sister still blames our parents' divorce for her problems. Build a bridge and get over it....

Well I feel silly and wrongly informed. We got a maine coon because H is allergic to cats, but he doesn't have a problem with Cleo.

I was curious about this and looked it up. Most sources I found said no cats are hypoallergenic, but the allergens in their saliva and dander vary from cat to cat and some people are allergic to certain types of allergens, while other people are allergic to all types of allergens.

Quick, all of you smart people, do this sound legit?
In Response to Re: Unpopular Opinions : In Canada we have separate programming for those who are living below the poverty level vs. those who are unable to work due to a disability etc. Is that the same in the States, or no? I've always wondered, just curious.
It depends on the state. The federal government will pay 50% of welfare for 2 years, after that the states decided whether to continue paying out welfare. If they decide to continue it, it becomes 100% the states responsibility to pay for it. Disability is different here. Its a separate thing. I was talking more about the welfare for people who decide to have a bunch of kids so they dont have to work.

How much longer? What do you think should be done with those extra hours? Would you agree with the idea that we should have the same length of days, but more of them?
I think whatever we need to do to catch our kids up to the rest of the world is what we need to do. Longer days, longer school year. Our kids are falling way behind and its a problem.

I Why only your Southern border?
The major problem we are experiencing with illegal immigration is coming from the southern border. Something like 12K a day (4 mil a year) cross the southern border. Only a small percentage actually get deported. If the northern border becomes a similar problem, I will be on board with a wall going up there as well.

• FWIW: FI and I plan on putting our kids in year-long private school. If we can find a parochial school that's year round, that is.

When I was a young lass, I hated how long summers were. I would wish so bad that school started on, like, July 25th. It got so bad one year that I lined up all my stuffed animals (and my little brother) took attendance and started teaching them geography and science, I'd make them lunch and then we'd go on "field trips" in our backyard to learn about snails and trees and lizards. I felt that school-deprived.

• I disagree about the school day Blue. Although my county also has longer days than other ones I think. Most of our kids don't even get home until 9 at night if they do anything after school and have to be back to school at 8:30 (if they don't have something before school).

I hate little dogs. H wants a beagle and I told him I will not ever have a dog smaller than my cat, so we had better find a big beagle.

I don't think kids are any worse these days than they were before, I just think there are more of them. I think every generation of people aged 25-40 think that the teens of their generation were amazing and the current teens are brats. Guess what? We were all brats too at that age.

I think people who haven't researched adoption processes or IVF should stfu when people talk about it. Neither process is easy and unless you know what you are talking about I really don't want your input on which path you think is best.

Posted by mrs.jesse
I think class size needs to be smaller because we are expecting alot from teachers and putting the blame on teachers, but what can you expect when they have a class of 30 kids?

I also think teachers pay should be based off of how good they are, not how long they have been teaching. Sometimes being a teacher forever makes you a great teacher, but sometimes teaching for 25 years makes you bored and over it. Also, having seniority in schools makes it hard for younger teachers who would be great assets to get a job.

It scares me that the percentage of kids who get to college unprepared keeps going up. I dont know what the answer is since I am not a parent, or a teacher, but I do think it needs some attention.

I've only tried to avoid pregnancy, and I'm agreeing with you here. It's no one's business but your own, and no one has a right to judge.

I have a family friend that went through like 3 rounds of IVF. Got pregnant, MC in first trimester, got pg again, and the baby was born with a heart defect. They did open heart surgery on her at like a month old, and she died from complications.

People have been telling them to adopt. I want to slap these people.
Really? Just leave them alone.
I've never seen two people want and deserve a child so much and be beaten down like that. My heart breaks for them, but I'm not close enough to really even express my sympathies without seeming nosey.

• Yep. That about sums it all up. Oh. And sex swings.

• And class size is getting ridiculous. We currently have 35 kids in our basic classes. But, we also have some really random classes with 2-4 kids in the class. We have one classroom that is used by 4 kids 2 hours every other day.
And the best part? Next year we are estimated to have 2077 kids. This year we are stuffed with 1828 kids, and our original capacity was 1600.
