I ate roadkill one time in college. It wasn't a sorority or club initiation or anything, but I had a lot of redneck friends (God love them!) and they saw a freshly dead rabbit in good shape, not splattered or anything, on the side of the road, picked it up, and roasted it over a firepit that night at a party. I don't remember what it tasted like because I was wasted!

Holy lord. I grew up in the middle of nowhere and my dad was a deer hunter. He hit a deer with his truck one night, but it was in decent shape. So he put it in the back of his truck, then field dressed it and froze the meat. I was 10. I refused to eat the roadkill. I might be a redneck, but even I have standards. I realize it was ok, and the mode of the kill wasn't that important, but I wouldn't do it.
Ugh it was so embarrassing. Although my BFF, who lived with me, and her BF at the time were getting it on in her room and her bed broke, like the frame split in two. It was so loud I came running downstairs to see what happened, and nearly barged in on them. Thankfully she had her door locked; I was clueless as to what was going on inside.
    Posted by maratea
Haha that's an awesome story, I love that you were clueless too.

FI and I cracked his old bedframe years ago when he was still living at home. He told his mom I got excited about something and was jumping on the bed. She was not fooled.

ETA--Now that I think about it, I guess it wasn't technically a lie..

Interesting - I sang competitively through high school and then quit for lack of time. Now people are always shocked when I sing.

I was a terrible person at 18. There was a time at work when the funny, weird manager was in a room with me and four male coworkers. He jokingly said, "raise your hand if you haven't made out with [me]." No one raised their hands.

I'm also 100% Scandanavian, even though my family has all been in the States for 4 generations or more.

Hehe. I love telling that story. When we got a bunch of new employees at work we all had to tell an interesting story about ourselves as an icebreaker and I got some REALLY funny looks when I told my story. It was pretty funny.

  • Late to the party, but.....
I've lost 210 pounds since 2004. I'm still working on being toned though. But, for the first time, almost all of my markers check out healthy (lipids are borderline, but were always off the charts).

Oddly, the further I get away from that weight loss, the less confident I get. I've gotten shyer, and more quiet. It's very strange.

I was married to an asshat douchebag for 4 1/2 years, desperate to make it work - I hate being a failure.
It took me a year to want to take. And now, I've got my wonderful John, whom my family adores. But Iowa winters still suck.

I had an ex and his band write a song about me too but it was before we started dating (we were friends/acquaintences first). It was called "I Wanna Fuuck [Bob's] Girlfriend," "Bob" being the guy I was dating at the time. I didn't know about the song until I started dating the guy!

  • I thought the song kinda sucked. But it was catchy. It sounded a lot like Jeff Buckley. It started out kinda sweet and plain. But the chorus was, "Darlin'... darlin'... you make me want to die." We were still dating at the time and I remember hearing the song and being like, "Oh. Ok. We need to talk."

He didn't use my name. But I think of it every time I hear the Plain White Tees song, "Hey Deliah." Poor Deliah.

  • The Billy Joel song, "Only the Good Die Young" was written about my mom's cousin. It was an exaggeration of their relationship but yes, her name was Virginia and she was Catholic.

I have been interviewed on tv three different times. Weird mostly because the events were all totally unrelated and eyars apart. I just have 'that face' I guess.
