Re: unpopular opinions

  • OH YEAH? Well you know what I've never heard of? How to Tame Your Dragon. Was it a porno? Because then maybe I'd watch it.

  • I hate 3D. I think it's a waste of money and doesn't really add anything to the experience of movie-going.

One would think! It was actually a super cute movie about a tribe of people in Scotland... or something. Who fight dragon attacks. But it turns out the dragons are really nice. But if the porn industry isn't on top of "remaking" that schit, something is wrong with them.

  • 3D gives me a nauseous headache and I can never find a pair of glasses to fit me right due to my actual glasses.

I took a TV and New Media class last semester and the professor made everyone buy 3D glasses so that we could watch YouTube in 3D. It was a trip. And not in a good way.
  • Hmm.m..I like Scotland. And I'm pretty indifferent to dragons, so the scales could be tipped in either direction.

HOW DO YOU NOT LIKE 3D?! I love it. I think it adds a lot to the movie going experience.

  • Here's Roger Ebert's article on why he hates it. I pretty much agree with everything he says. 3D seems to only work with animated films, which makes it kind of kitschy.

  • I know I'm late and I'm already on page 6, but juxtawhatever...you CLEARLY havent spent time in the teacher's shoes. In Texas, you're required to do X amount of hours in training every two years that ISN'T paid for by the district. That's what summers are for. Additionally....summer school requires teachers. More teachers work SS than you think. Grading? Lesson plans? Researching creative teaching ideas? All of that takes time. And you have NO CLUE how much teachers spend on teaching tools and supplies annually. Most schools in my area give you like...$150. But if you need something, as a teacher, you're going to buy it, and will just spend personal money if necessary. Teachers have to do more than, "2+2=4, mkay class?" Teaching the subject, following the standardized testing procedure, classroom management, sponsoring after-school activities, (that I'm sure your children will be in someday) etc. I would like to echo the person who mentioned people that work 8-5 office jobs...half of the people on this board are knotting at work. I don't judge them at all, but I'm just pointing out that they must have some element of free time. I know that it's your unpopular opinion, and that's fine, but I think that you need to actually understand what goes into it before you make an opinion based on a stereotype.
  • We saw Toy Story 3 in 3D Sat night. I couldn't see my darn food with those glasses on, so it was hard to eat. Plus, I don't think it added anything.

ALso, I really dislike most animation, including Disney, Pixar, Avatar, Toy Story, Shrek, and all that other stuff. I just can't get into it.

  • I didn't read the whole article, but I did scan it. And for all movies? No, I don't think it's appropriate and/or necessary. But every now and then, I think it's a fun novelty, depending on the film.

It is a fun novelty which is why I still see a movie or two in 3D.  But damn it makes my head hurt.

  • I can't justify seeing a movie in 3D with the prices. In Manhattan, the ticket alone can cost upwards of $18. I've seen movies not in 3D that are typically seen in 3D: "Avatar" and "Toy Story 3" come to mind. I didn't think I was missing anything (I hated "Avatar" anyway).
  • I don't think Anchorman is funny.

I didn't think this was unpopular (or unpoopular, as I just typed by accident) until I read this thread, but I loved No Country For Old Men.

I'm a vegetarian (probably unpopular in itself) who hates mushrooms.
  • Oh yeah, see. Up 'round these parts movie tickets are only what... 7.50?

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: unpopular opinions : This. I know myself really well and I wouldn't get bored. I'm very good at keeping busy and am always on the go. I love taking classes and I do volunteer work even when working full time. I know I would do a lot more of it if I wasn't working. I also feel like I waste my weekends catching up with chores that I fell behind on during the week. It's quite sad. MoneyP: I don't mean to sound creepy but were you at a wedding shower yesterday? I was at an old coworkers shower and I saw a girl who looked just like your picture. I even said something to my friend at the table and she looked at me strange because I talk to people on the internet, ha.

hee hee!  Nope, no wedding shower yesterday, but this is the third sighting of a doppelganger I have in Boston :).  I'm 5'11, so that is usually the easiest way to tell if it is me.
  • Note to self: Go to MN to see movies. Lots of them.

I didn't think "Anchorman" was ROFL funny, but it was a good for a few laughs. I don't think Will Farrell is that funny when he's Ron Burgandy or Ricky Bobby. I DO like him in "Old School," "Elf" and as Dubya. Too bad I heard he's a douche IRL.

And I can't get through "No Country for Old Men." I've tried.

    (And I LOVE mushrooms.)

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: unpopular opinions : Ugh.  I got to listen to someone go off on a rant yesterday about interracial marriage.  I'm pretty sure she's also staunchly anti-gay.  It makes me want to beat my head against the wall, but at the same time I keep reminding myself that she has very limited world experience and is hard set in a religious upbringing that resulted in these views.  It still makes me sad.

  • Movie tickets are $8.00 here and our theater is going to go out of business because everyone refuses to pay that much.

I don't like reality tv shows...I don't get it. What are people supposed to watch in five years when we're tired of Friends re-runs...I don't see the fun in watching re-runs of Survivor or anything like it.
  • While I don't always think the teacher's in my county are overpaid necessarily, I do think they need to stop bitching about how much they are underpaid constantly. Let's look at salaries here

Teachers : Typically work 36-40 hours a week. Even if they do extra, which most of ours don't, you are looking at 8 hour days, maybe 9 if they stay after for an hour, which again, most of ours don't. You get off 1 week for Thanksgiving, 3 for Christmas, 2 for Spring break and about 45 days off for summer. And every national holiday. And the majority of them have vehemently protested having to do any work over the summer or breaks. The pay scale here is $55k - &85k, with the average teacher earning $70k/year.

Firefighters : Run into burning buildings and work ridiculous hours. Their average salary is $45k, and tops out around $55k.

Police : Average salary is $35k, tops out at $50k

Retail management : most work 50-70 hours a week with 2 weeks of vacation and maybe Christmas/Thanksgiving off, with a salary range of $20k - $45k depending on the company.

And yet they don't get why people get annoyed when they bitch about "only" making $50k a year?

Also I feel I need to find an old email a friend sent me about "If teachers were paid to be glorified babysitters". Basically it showed that if a teacher really got paid the rate of a babysitter they would be making about $300k a year.
