True story. The theater I go to is something like $15 during peak times and $12 during non-peak (Monday-Thursday) times. The 3D tickets are more like $20. Thankfully, I have connections and get free passes sometimes.

[QUOTE]While I don't always think the teacher's in my county are overpaid necessarily, I do think they need to stop bitching about how much they are underpaid constantly. Let's look at salaries here Teachers : Typically work 36-40 hours a week. Even if they do extra, which most of ours don't, you are looking at 8 hour days, maybe 9 if they stay after for an hour, which again, most of ours don't. You get off 1 week for Thanksgiving, 3 for Christmas, 2 for Spring break and about 45 days off for summer. And every national holiday. And the majority of them have vehemently protested having to do any work over the summer or breaks. The pay scale here is $55k - &85k, with the average teacher earning $70k/year. Firefighters : Run into burning buildings and work ridiculous hours. Their average salary is $45k, and tops out around $55k. Police : Average salary is $35k, tops out at $50k Retail management : most work 50-70 hours a week with 2 weeks of vacation and maybe Christmas/Thanksgiving off, with a salary range of $20k - $45k depending on the company. And yet they don't get why people get annoyed when they bitch about "only" making $50k a year? Also I feel I need to find an old email a friend sent me about "If teachers were paid to be glorified babysitters". Basically it showed that if a teacher really got paid the rate of a babysitter they would be making about $300k a year.

My mom makes $38K. She has over 30 years of experience, specialized skills, and graduate work. She even has to pay for half of her insurance. So let me rephrase: In Acadia Parish, Louisiana, teachers are underpaid. They can't attract good teachers because they don't pay enough. That's a fact.

Fair enough, and that's sad about her pay :( We have little 25 year twits making $55k starting out who do nothing but complain about the kids and the pay and they aggrevate the living shiit out of me.

How is that possible? Don't babysitters get paid, like, $15 tops per hour? That would be around $30,000/year if you did it 40 hours a week.
• I think it was something like $3 an hour per kid, times 30 kids (which is a gross underestimation for many high schools) times 40 hours a week, allowing 24 weeks for summer and gives you about $187k / year.
• I used to babysit anywhere from 2-6 kids when I was a teenager and they paid me $4 an hour.

Maybe that figure is taking into account 20-30 kids per hour?

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: unpopular opinions : I just don't understand why so many people buy them. People who would otherwise never buy/wear a strapless dress immediately hone in on them once they are engaged. I never wore them before and I never considered one when I was engaged. I think wedding designers push them out by the hundreds and now women everywhere are thinking to look like a bride they have to wear a strapless gown.

I get what you are saying, but in the pic you have posted, your gown looks strapless. Did it just have little straps, because in my mind that is pretty much the same as strapless.

• I don't work, and now that I have been home for 6 months, FI doesn't want me working more than part time, ever. He likes me being home. I don't do dishes and I don't clean the bathroom. I do all the cooking, other cleaning and laundry. I also don't do yard work. I will water the flower beds, but that is it. I don't find that I am bored, ever, and except for Mondays when I watch True Blood, I don't watch TV all week, until the evening when FI is home. Now that it is summer, I spend time with my daughter, we play games, go to the library, go out to lunch, have friends over, do housework, go to Busch Gardens and Water Country, I am writing a novel, I go to the gym, I stay busy. I don't apologize for my life. I love it and feel thankful and blessed everyday. We are financially stable, we pay our bills, pretty much do what we want, and build savings every month.

I really don't have much to add about the teacher discussion other than I was friends with a few elementary education majors when I was in school, and it is really annoying to be cramming for exams while they are making felt animal shapes and complaining about how hard their work was.

That being said, both of my parents were highschool teachers so I respect teachers, I just don't respect the bullshiit education classes that teachers take.

• Yeah, the crappy teachers get overpaid, but any decent teacher is underpaid. My mother spent 30 years teaching (recently she got her degree in library science and is now a librarian). She worked at a private school. She didn't have the kids grade their own stuff, she was an amazing teacher and she spent every night from dinner on grading papers. She never took sick days and a decent teacher spends that last month getting her/his classroom together (lesson plans, etc.) so no...they aren't all overpaid.

You know who gets overpaid? Sports figures. Teachers should get their salary.
