Yes, joke away :) I called him a dirty Mexican* for our entire trip to the US this time, for no reason other than when we were standing in the immigration line it somehow came up that while he's Latino (and therefore could get hassled), at least he's Chilean and not from a country that tends to produce more of the US's immigrants like Mexico.

*Yes, I know this is not PC. For the record, I like Mexicans and find them no dirtier than other nationalities.
