[QUOTE]Kim - My SIL used a realtor in Philadelphia to find her apartment (more like 1/4 of a house).  Sounds like Bay is using a realtor to find an apartment in CT from her comment above.  I'm thinking the East Coast in general is a market that realtors handle rentals.  We also had decent luck using  <a href="http://www.rentals.com/" rel="nofollow">http://www.rentals.com/</a> .  Pretty much the only thing I got off Craigslist were scams or no response at all to my e-mail inquiries and a lot of the listings don't include a phone number.  Also, Google property management companies in the city you're looking in.  Property management firms will often have their listings on their website, but you have to go firm to firm to each of their sites to see their listings (and it may point you to other websites that have listings from multiple property management companies.  One of the sites we found was <a href="http://www.rentindenver.com" rel="nofollow">www.rentindenver.com</a> - which is local to Denver and won't help yo(obvi)u , but there may be an equivilant where you're looking.  Good luck!

<div>I know that craigslist can be a great resource - but I generally try to avoid it. Trying to buy a used car was an absolute nightmare. I viewed 8 different cars and 7 of them outright lied in the listing. I bought the 8th and got scammed -.-</div>

</div><div>Thank you, that is all good to know!  So far we've had a few good responses from craigslist and a bunch of "no dogs."  We are also looking at Yale's website and the local newspaper for listings.

  • Evening ladies! Steph and Poke, I hate you for mentioning sushi, now I want it!

Nothing really going on this weekend. I'm going to get Rita's in a bit and bring some to FI. He'll be studying all night for a final tomorrow, but I'm going to go over and just hang out for a bit. I'll probably be on the computer the whole time since he doesn't actually have time to pay attention to me, but it'll still be nice to see him for the first time this week.

No plans or the weekend right now. My parents are down the shore and I thought about going down as well, but the weather isn't going to be that great.  Hopefully I'll make it down there soon.

  • My one and only experience with Craigs list left me stranded in New Orleans without a place to stay on the weekend before Mardi Gras.  Awesome experience.  I want it on the record that I was not the one to pay someone up front for a condo in the French Quarter without knowing if it even existed (which it didn't).

  • H and I lucked out with our apt.

We had contacted someone on craigslist....but after a few emails discovered her condo was on the market.  For whatever reason I was feeling rather chipper that day and replied to her email and thanked her for her time, but explained we were looking for something more long term and wished her luck with selling.

She wrote back that her H was about to rent his condo the next town over. Because of what she was listing hers as, he came down in his price and we ended up with a two floor, two bedroom, 1.5 bathroom apt w/ a storage room for less than most studios around here!

[QUOTE]for those of you looking for apartments.....  zillow has an apartment search function... <a href="http://www.zillow.com" rel="nofollow">http://www.zillow.com</a>

<div>Oh yeah... and you cand find houses for rent too.  You can limit your search by map area, and by rentals only.  It's kind of sweet.  I can't believe I forgot about this one. </div><div>
</div><div>We ended up in an apartment just based on being able to move in pretty much immediately.  After about 4 days we determined that finding a house would take a few weeks and it might be another week or two before we could move in and I couldn't afford to stay in a hotel for 4-5 weeks so we went with the affordable apartment.  The rental market in Denver is apparently a little insane right now because credit is so tight.  Not sure how CT is.</div>

  • I am addicted to zillow.  I look on it everyday for houses....and as of today I am starting to drive around the city to check out neighborhoods of houses I have liked.  Eventually it will be time to go in for preapproval and I want to have some ideas of where to look when it is time.
  • You guys are not helping my stress levels.  :)

  • hey guys. popping in during my study break.

I just got a voicemail (i didn't answer because I didn't recognize the number) from an old lady and it made me sad. She thought my name was Amy and she referred to herself as Grandma. She wanted me to know that she was thinking about me and that she loved me. Damn. I hate calling wrong numbers back but I feel really bad for Amy's Grandma.

  • Woot! My mom is home, now I can get sushi.

I'll probably be back - but maybe not as my mom invited me to go chill with some of her friends. I haven't decided if I want to, but I probably should.

  • Yeah, I mean I don't want Amy's grandma to think that Amy is being a bitch and snubbing her. Especially if she is the type of granddaughter that a Grandma feels she can call up on a Friday night.

I did find slight humor in the fact that she admitted that "the voice on the answering machine didn't sound like you. But I trust that it is!" oh, old ladies.

  • Aww, Amy's grandma is sweet.  Amy better be a nice young lady.

[QUOTE]Hi all! No weekend plans for me, besides some cleaning and gardening if it's nice enough. My pup had his knee surgery on Wednesday, so I want to stay home to keep an eye on him. He's barely moving around, and I don't know if it's from the pain killers, or if he is just in pain and doesn't want to move.

Aww MuSu that's cute, and sad, all rolled in to one. I still don't know where we'll land in terms of housing in the future. Obviously if we sell our house we'll buy or build something up here. If we have to rent it though I don't know where that will leave us in terms of having to get a mortgage while still owning something. Being a grown up is complicated. Yell

Thanks! I just feel so bad for him, he looks so sad and pathetic. He hadn't ate anything since I picked him up yesterday, so I gave him some chicken for dinner. I hope he'll get some energy now that he has some food in him.

WTF is this Zulu people are referring to in FFF? Something about a terrible sig.

  • I just called her back. She was so nice. She was all flustered that it was the wrong number, hah. She repeated the number back and it was mine, but she kind of made it sound like it would make sense that she changed her number but forgot to tell her. I don't know. I hope she finds Amy's real number though. I've had this number for almost 2 years so geez, that is a long time to not tell grandma your new number.

Oh no MuSu! I hope she finds Amy!

Bahahaha I just got to the part where Chelsea said she thought I acted like I knew everything about the Spanish language when I corrected someone on spelling Cinco, Cinquo. Oh Chelsea. There's another ::headpat:: for ya. I'm glad others jumped in and said they highly doubted I meant it like that. Which I didn't. Cinquo just looks weird, and wrong.

<div>I didn't get too far into the rental thing with our mortgage broker because we can't claim H's bonus income until he's been at the job for 12 months, and without it (cause it's like 80% of his pay) we can't quality for a cardboard box so I didn't even pursue it.. Anyway.. You can count the rental income as income to offset the cost of the mortgage (but maybe not 100% of it cause they assume it won't be occupied 100% of the time - like 75% of it or something like that ) BUT.. she made a comment about not being sure if we could include it at this point because we didn't have a history of renting the house (but in 12 months, we will be in the 2nd year and have rental income on a tax return so that shows history so that will clear up that detail) and she thought they'd only let us count it if we had at least  20% equity in the house... which blows.. and if I had an 80% loan to value ration on the house I'd be selling it, not being a long distance landlord in Cleveland from Denver.. But like I said, I didn't pursue either of those statements cause we got counted out of buying something on the basic income requirements we'd need to prove so I'm not sure how hard and fast either of those statements in regards to rental properties are.</div>
  • I'm sitting here all worried that she won't find Amy's number, haha. But forreal, who doesn't give their grandma their new number after 2 years? I'm now hoping that Grandma just copied it down wrong. lol. If they haven't been in contact over the phone in that long, then that REALLY makes me sad. Poor Grandma.
