[QUOTE]So, I was taking a nap, but seriously, I'm still excited to move to Sweden, but because I'm house hunting and finding crap and can't have a dog, that's complaining? That's a stupid thing to say. Seriously. And you guys who think that people who live in a different country don't have the right to complain JUST because they happen to have had the opportunity to be there. You guys have shiit days and have crap that goes wrong, and guess what? That doesn't change when you move somewhere that's paradise or what YOU think paradise is. If you want to live overseas, then go do it and stop bitching about how you won't have the opportunity ever. But don't punish me because you think my life *has* to be better because of where I live.

I'm kind of fond of living in Canada. I think it's pretty sweet.

But I suppose it isn't the exotic country folks are talking about.

Basically, we all think that moving somewhere cool would solve all of our problems and change our lives. But it doesn't. It's just the same life in a different place.

I don't think that living abroad automatically means that life is wonderful and grand. I've told Amoro this before---it eventually loses it's sparkle and you're just living there. The people who are from Italy don't think, ZOMG! LIFE IS WONDERFUL I LIVE IN ITALY!"

It's more like, "Hm...I wonder what America is like."

That said, when people always complain, it gets really old, and I think that our nature to be somewhat jealous of the circumstances of other people makes the complaints about living abroad a little more annoying.

But more than anything, I hate when the complaints are because of [insert excuse here]

If you have a complaint, just have it. Don't throw out an excuse as to why you're complaining.*

I'm not saying it should insult you. I'm saying that it's ridiculous to be offended by the name and image of one out of date culture (I get that natives still live here, but I think we can agree that they bear little resemblance now to what they were before the Europeans moved in) but not when that same name is used to represent another out of date culture.

Edit: Some may call this a hypocrisy.

  • If people spent their entire lives trying to make sure nobody was offended by anything they did, nothing would ever get done. Somebody's ALWAYS going to be offended. In my personal opinion, if the people who "should" be offended aren't (as in Native Americans being upset about the Fighting Sioux) aren't, then everybody else needs to sit down and chillax. Obviously, that doesn't go for big things like not letting people drink out of the same water fountain or vote or get married.

Oh I agree with you, I was being sarcastic. I think it's moronic quite frankly. Do we still walk around with our men in leather skirts, pike in hand? No. So what is there to be offended by? Besides the fact that, from my perspective at least, it's kind of neat that the culture gets carried on, even in the form of a mascot, because people will know about it. And that's really all that matters, that the history isn't forgotten.
