[QUOTE]In Response to Re: You can talk to me, set your secrets free baby AKA Evening thread : My mom is out visiting family. Every day when I talk to her she brags how nice the weather is. She's in Torrance. Her older sister is there, and her brothers are in Corona and Fontana. When she retired she decided to go out for a month. Must be nice! Your Citrus and Avocados are so much better than ours out here.

Leisel, I don't eat a long of things because of texture too.  It drove my parents nuts growing up, and H has tried to learn to deal with my pickiness lol.  It has taken me 27 years to eat raw onions (like sliced red onions in a salad) but I absolutely will NOT eat them cooked.  I won't eat baked fruits either.

ETA:  My previous CW used to bring avacados to work to eat for lunch.  She just took a spoon to it and sprinkled it with lime juice and a little salt.  It looked delicious, but the taste/texture just wig me out.

Momma always stays in Torrance with her sister. I always stay in Corona with my favorite Uncle and his wife. ;) I don't understand California geography very well, other than to know that Torrance is at the beach and everyone else is inland. I have one cousin in Paris and I know she's the furthest inland. Otherwise, I don't know exactly where anyone lives.

She said it's in the 70's and clear at the beach. Whatever.

  • Yes Sara, it was to you haha. Sorry, I should have said.

Zizi - whaaaaat? Are you serious? I've never heard that before. I can eat cashews. Whenever I eat mango I break out on my face. It's not a serious reaction but I generally avoid it just in case it gets worse or something.

  • I can't stand the texture of lettuce. I would LOVE to be able to eat a salad, but I just hate lettuce. I'll eat most vegetables cooked or in soup, but there is not a single veggie I'll eat raw.

I'll try fruit in any form.
  • Tracy - YGPM back.
  • Leisel - my family is fascinated by my aversion to certain textures. They think it's so weird. I can't do beans, non greek yogurt, and certain vegetables if they're mushy (like broccoli).
  • Steffi, you'll have to let me know if you make it out here, maybe we can g2g.

Poke, I'm down for anything involving glitter.

Has anyone ever made grilled peaches? I tried once, cuz they look amazing, but mine didn't come out so good :( I want to try again.

  • I haven't made grilled peaches but I have made grilled pineapple and it was pretty much awesome.

<div>YOu know, I've heard that too. Apparently if you put them on the grill they like caramelize or something and it's amazing. But I just am too afraid to try it. It doesn't sound right to me haha. </div><div>
</div><div>Also  - I found this on the interwebs and it really amused me:</div><div>

  • haha that's awesome.

Yeah, I think maybe my peaches were not ripe enough or something because they weren't as sweet as i expected. I sprinkled sugar on the before i grilled them, and they caramelized nicely, but they were just meh. Not amazing.

  • I just realised that I haven't even looked at teh rest of E today. When I finally came back online I came straight to this thread and haven't left haha. I'm just catching up now.
  • Sara - We'll be out over Thanksgiving or Xmas this year, depending on flight prices. I come at least once a year and sometimes two or three times. I used to hop out for a weekend, but my work load is too heavy for that.

This will be DH's first trip out, and first time meeting the family. I'm excited and nervous for him to meet mom's family. Though, if he survived my dad's family last year mom's family is a piece of cake. They're normal.

I'll let you know when we buy tickets.

Is there really a lot of stuff to do there? We're trying to plan an anniversary trip over Thanksgiving weekend. Hopefully something close enough where we could get really cheap airfare or that's driving distance. Atlanta was one of the cities I thought of.

I need someone to help dress me for my brother's wedding.  I don't wear dresses...ever.  I never have an occasion to wear them, andplusalso, I have a really negative body image and avoid shopping at all costs.  I have no idea what to look for.  I have found a few dresses on ModCloth that I like, but I have NO idea if they would look good on my body type.  Unfortunately I carry most of extra fluff in my hips, butt, and thighs.   Anyone have any thoughts on cut besides something more A-line?

I love this but don't know that it would work:  http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/wave-to-the-crowd-dress-in-mint

<div>First of all, your post saying it's a small world + your Disney sig pic made me giggle. </div><div>
</div><div>Secondly there is TONS to do in Atlanta. We have the worlds largest aquarium, the world of coke, a wonderful Zoo with Pandas, and a lot of other fun stuff I can't even think of off the top of my head.</div>

It is a small world Tracy! I ended up in one of the Kaiser hospitals around Corona two visits ago. I don't know which one, I was too sick to care. I usually fly into Ontario, it's closer to my uncle's business.

Poke - Atlanta is 4 hours from me and I want to come down and visit the Aquarium again. It's on the to do list for this fall. If you haven't moved yet maybe we can GTG. John hates Atlanta because of the traffic and doesn't want to go, but it's one of my favorite cities.
    image
  • Don't get me wrong - Atlanta traffic sucks. I hate going into Atlanta (unless I'm going there for something really fun) and would never live in the city. I would love to GTG with you Steffi.

Also - have you been to Helen? It's closer to you than Atlanta is - and it's such a cute little town.
  • Now I've got "It's a Small World" stuck in my head. I will sing that through the whole ride and usually for a bit after. H always laughs at me.

I will definitely have to look into Hotlanta more. H said that there's not much going on but he only passed through briefly while helping to drive his friend out to medical school years ago.

I can't believe him though because he also said Boston (visited w/ his buddies long ago) was boring but we had a blast there last November. AND after our first trip to Paris he said he had never seen most of what we did in just three days even though he spent a week there with his best friend on their HS graduation trip. Hmmmm, I think I see a pattern here.

  • Yeah, there really is SO much to do in Atlanta. It's a big place. I have lived in the same general area for my entire life (about an hour outside the city) and I couldn't even list all the stuff that's there. There is pretty much something for everyone.
  • Ontario airport is the easiest to fly into/out of. I've got to go there on Friday to drop of my mom. I'm picking someone up at LAX on Wednesday, and someone else up from Santa Ana on Thursday. Exciting.

Poke, I SO want to visit Atlanta. When I was a kid, I dropped a huge bottle of whiskey in the airport there coming home from N. Ireland.
    image
  • Helen is incredible. I've been there twice.

It's a longer time drive than Atlanta, though. We've also been to Chattanooga, Tail of the Dragon with the car, Franklin, Asheville - we like to go places for the weekend.

Angel I typed out a huge post and TK ate it. Check out Ann Taylor and Evan Picone. They're my favorites and I'm a hippy girl, too.
    image
  • Sara - I fly in/out of different airports depending on price. Sometimes I fly in one and out of another if it's cheaper. John Wayne (Santa Ana?) is the scariest for me landing. I hate coming in there. Ontario is my favorite. LAX sucks. I've flown into San Diego and taken the train into LA, that was fun, too.
    image
  • Sara,

I love the ease of Ontario too. My office was on Haven so I was just minutes away. Unfortunately, it is way more expensive (sometimes hundreds more and they don't have non-stop service) to fly there from here so we almost always do LAX now.

I always swore I'd never drive around LAX but after picking H up a few times last year, I'm a pro. I ain't scared! :)
