Oh I didn't realise that Steffi, but I'm bad with remembering where the hell places are. You should also take a trip to Tullulah Gorge - it's absolutely beautiful. But be warned - there are like 1600 steps to the bottom. Not there and back - just there. 

Sara - travelling internationally through ATL used to suck. You'd have to go through security getting off the plane. Not just for connections either. If it was your final stop and you were leaving the airport you still needed to go through security again. Like, wtf? I don't know if that's just an international thing or not, because I haven't travelled domestically since I was like 12 and I have almost no memory of it. But now they've built a brand new terminal - it's an entirely separate building - just for international.

Yes, John Wayne is Santa Ana. Have you tried flying in to Long Beach? It's even easier than Ontario, and I've flown out of there for cheaper than LAX for a few things.

Tracy, I used to HATE driving around LAX, but I've been there so much I'm one of those asswholes that's impatient and yelling in the car at all the taxi's. Gawd that place is a madhouse!

It's probably less mileage, but unless the roads have improved there's about an hour and a half or two hours after you get off the high way that makes it longer into Helen.

I've done the Tullulah Gorge as a teen. It was a amazing. We do need to do that this fall. That's up our alley. Last summer we stopped on our way home from Pittsburgh in WV at the big bridge and took the stairs down to the look out over the gorge. That was cool.

And, we did the bottomless lake cave tour in Tennessee and wanted to go up on Lookout Mountain but it was like $30 for us and we decided not to do that. Instead we went to Chatta Con. Better waste of $30. LOL

I wish DH camped. I love to camp and he's not so inclined. He does like to find good places to take the telescope, though. But, he wants a warm shower and a nice bed when he's done.

That's weird Poke, and what a pain in the ass it must have been. I don't remember going through there, since I was really young, but I've been told the whiskey story quite a few times!

I don't think I've flown in or out of Long Beach. I usually fly into Santa Ana and out of Ontario.

My uncles own bus companies, so they don't seem to mind where I fly in or out of. I don't think they're fazed by traffic at all.

Oh Steffi you have to go to Lookout Mountain at some point. The Incline Railway is pretty cool, Rock City is amazing, and Ruby falls is fun. We paid about $90 for two three packs of tickets to see all three. That was a really fun day. Plus all the driving around on the mountain was cool - you know, since I wasn't the one driving.

Traffic is a given around here. People stop to look at everything. I didn't notice it as much until I moved away and then moved back. Now driving during rush hour makes me ragey.

The incline was closed when we went. It was under going repair.

We rented a cabin on the lake - they were BOGO for the off season at Hales Bar Marina. And, the first cabin had bugs. The marina made it right and upgraded us to the premium cabins and gave us our stay for free. I can see us going back again. I would love to do the ghost tour of Hales Bar, too.

When we went out we also went to the water station in the mountain with the lake - it's a pump station where you get to go on top of the mountain?

And, it snowed on our way home so I got stuck in Knoxville with John for an extra day which was cool. He had to work in Knoxville that week, and I took an extra day off and drove home late. It was a really funny trip with all that went wrong along the way, but it will forever be memorable as one of the best Valentines Days ever. Even though we had to fumigate our luggage, I got snowed in to Tennessee, the Greyhound I was supposed to be on had a wreck on Wednesday evening going out to Tennessee and on Sunday coming home, it was a comedy of errors that weekend, but we had a blast.
