It works pretty well, Loop. This past year was the first and it took a few weeks to get the kinks out. We have a few kids who don't want them in their lockers, parents pop in during the day to get their bags. Most kids just live their backpacks gaping open, we plop in the bag of food and zip 'er up. We always do it inbetween classes so it stays on the downlow. At the high school, kids go pick it up in an office. Grade schools do it in a similar fashion to the middle school.

I worry about the kids in the summer when they aren't getting the groceries. At least during the school year, they can have breakfast and lunch at school and then have the groceries for the weekend.

ETA: One time a girl came up to her locker as I was filling her bag. And she told me she appreciated it so much and that she couldn't believe people cared about her like that. WATERWORKS CITY! Uffda. She was a 7th grader. What a kid!

  • Annnnd, pizza wa delicious.
  • Hi all!

Got home about an hour ago from shopping for Boss#1 for her birthday. It started rumbling thunder so I went out to get the mail and put the pony up, fed the kitties, and now I'm settled in for the night. I ate dinner in town and got my eyebrows done tonight, so I'm feeling pampered.

And, I don't have to be in town until 9am tomorrow for a doctor's appt instead of 8am. So, I get to lounge around in PJs and work from home for a few hours in the morning.

  • Lbarr, things book up fast here too, but since I'm getting married on a Friday in January, I've been able to slack, since nobody else in the world seems to be getting married that day, haha.

Poke, I'm so sorry, that really, really sucks. I'm here if you want to talk or vent.

I'll check that out Loopy, thanks!

Angel, I had originally wanted to elope but H talked me into the wedding and I'm so glad he did.  It does go by quickly but it was truly the best night of my life.  In the end, it's worth the money, the planning and the stress.

  • And they listed their stupid house because apparently no longer being drafty and roof-fally isn't good enough.  I hate people.
  • Poke- I am so sorry that your move is delayed. I hope it flys by for you.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: You can talk to me, set your secrets free baby AKA Evening thread : That's awesome. Here, we have Breakfast for Learning, which is a similar program, but obviously breakfast, <strong>open to all students, whether they "need" it or not.</strong>

<div>That is why for the PACH program, we don't ask about income. Because sadly some of the kids come from families where they DO have adequate income but the parents gamble it away or some other case of goofy priorities. Or the parents just aren't around AT ALL on weekends (Working, partying, tending to other kids/relatives) so all the foods are either ready-to-eat or super simple to prepare with a microwave.</div>

[QUOTE]Hello. I just got back from the grocery store. Today was a bad day. H told me he called up the UKBA today and apparently they won't accept H's business as a form of support until it's been open for 12 months and they won't accept an affidavit of support from SIL in addition to the information from his accountant. So that means the absolute earliest I'll be in England is November.  Yeah, I took that well. I got very upset hten very drunk. Then took a nap and now I have sushi.

<div>Oh Poke - I'm so sorry to hear that :(.  I know you were hoping for sooner.</div>
  • willy, we have a free meal program during the summer for students too, so they can get a meal during the weekdays.  I think it is grant funded.
  • Poke, so very very sorry about this setback. Sigh.

  • My H has a new "annoy the shiiit out of my wife for fun" tactic.  He is now narrating his life out loud.

But only when I'm in the room.

  • Thanks guys. Sushi may not solve the problem, but it doesn't hurt ; )

I am not aware if my area does any kind of program like this. I'd like to think they do, but I just don't know. I know that the school offers free lunch/breakfast but you have to fill out an application and be approved.

  • Yeah, Heb, she immediately became my favorite. Of course, over the whole year, we maybe only saw three or four of the kids if they happened to be using he restroom or coming to get something from their locker while we were there. I do not know her name, but will never EVER forget her.

Poke, that sucks. I'm sorry you're having such a bad day.
  • Oh man Poke, I'm sorry.
    Thanks, Brandi.

Wally, that program is awesome. Hockey, same for yours.

  • I'm sorry Poke, that's really rough. :(

And, Sara, I'm sorry about your dog.

  • J, your H sounds hilarious. Although I'm sure it would be less hilarious if I were you, haha.

  • Hi all. Just had some tasty lemon chicken for dinner, and now I'm relaxing. H is working late tonight, so I've got the tv to myself.

Sara, so sorry about your pup.

Poke, that sucks. I'm sorry :( Vent all you need.

Angel, I worried too about overdoing things for the wedding, but it was honestly the most fun I've ever had in one day. It flew by, definitely, but I have so many amazing memories. I'm glad we got to have our "dream wedding", even if it was just one day.
  • Thank you, Steffi

<div>Pretty much all of hte funds are going towards the move/visa. Plus even though his business is online he can't really do it from here because he needs to package up the games. </div>
  • Wally, that program sounds awesome. There's nothing like that in my area that I know of - I know a lot of kids around here would benefit from something like that.

Poke, I don't know how you do it. Kudos to you for being so strong.

Out of curiosity, what does your H do?

  • Poke: I know it is no way the same...but we will keep you company until you move! *hugs*
