Hah, I'm not actually a historian. I'm an archivist. I just went to school for history.

  • The only bright side of taking the 2nd bar was that my firm paid me to take it, because no one in my practice group in my office is barred in the particular state, so I was "asked" if I would do it.  In my head, I know it's good for my career long-term, but sitting for the exam?  Blech.

  • It's really not as cool as it sounds. I promise.
  • Also, Musical, you should join the JAG Corps. I know a few people who did that and it seems like the sweetest gig ever.

  • JAG would be interesting except you still have to go to Basic, I think. And the thought of me doing that is kind of hilarious.

  • I mean, i think it's pretty cool but I also spend my weekends hanging out with four year olds.  It doesn't exactly require a whole lot of intellect
  • Well I did originally want to be an actress and dancer, MUN. So my heart is with performing arts.

  • Yeah, basic would suck. But the one guy I know gets a $1500 per month housing allowance and his rent is only $400. Those are the kind of benefits I need.

Me too.  Well, I haven't taken the bar, but getting relicensed in different states is a pain.  I told H that things need to work out in FL, or we're moving to CA.  But I'm not going to go through this process again.
  • I think 4 year olds might be more rational than a significant percentage of my adversaries, but litigators aren't usually known for their reasonableness and likeability.

  • Anna, Lucas considered gong for NCIS when he lft the Navy. I don't know what happened to that thought. Probably would have been cool.

But NUM being a princess is awesome.

  • You are probably right, Steph!  Four year olds can be aggressively rational.
  • I actually considered JAG until learning of the basic thing. I would be such a pansy.

  • "Aggressively rational" is my new favorite phrase MUN1.

  • Seriously, just try explaining to a four year old why Rapunzel has a long blond braid when at the end of the story, Flynn cut off her hair and it turned brown.
  • MuSu how long is basic? Like six weeks? You could totally hang.

  • I have no idea, MK. I haven't looked into it that much. But I just imagine all those films with military training camps, and omg I don't know if I could do it. Those trainers aren't as nice as people like Tony Horton.

haha! He is one of the view celebrity trainer personalities that I actually enjoy. I don't think they say "Do your best, forget the rest" in basic training.

<div>Hahaha!  Definitely not!  I actually do like him a lot better than other trainers, I just can't believe how hard this stupid 10 minute thing is - I am relatively fit, and these little videos are kicking my butt.</div>

  • Erin which academy? Naval?

MuSu I feel like most basic trainings are 6-8 weeks. But I'm not in the military so I could be making that up.

I just looked it up and for Navy JAG it is 5 weeks. It says it isn't as intense as regular basic but there is still physical fitness training. Meh.

  • I think the biggest downside, for me, for JAG was that you don't get to choose where you're stationed, and you get moved around pretty frequently.  Since FI already has a job here and needs to stay in one place, we would've had to have continued long-distance for as long as I enlisted, and I just didn't want to be away from him for that much longer (we were long distance while I was in law school).
