NONE of that is grounds for killing a dog you idiot.
• Welp, today's morning thread went of the rails in a particularly insane fashion.

WTF just happened?  Am I suffering from heat stroke from spending the afternoon outside in a wig and ball gown?

No one here actually bear maces dogs and dreams of murdering them, right?

Most leases have a clause that allows the landlord to force you to remove pets if they are a problem. That's a standard clause.

• Steff I think you are missing the point. We realize that the dog is a nuisance on your property. What we don't get is you saying you willfully hope the dog dies or gets "taken care of" by another pissed off neighbor. If anything, I feel awful for this poor dog who is not being properly controlled and taken care of.

The bolded is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. You didn't resolve anything with the dog. The dog can't reason with you. You were cruel to a dog. You MACED a dog.
There is seriously no reason to involve the landlord at all. They have absolutely NO ability to tell you to call or not call animal control.
Posted by musicalsunlight
They do have the ability to force me to remove my cats and horses from the property. Our houses are 15' apart.

It was a terrible situation. I moved the horse who had the majority of the problems with the dog once there was space for her. My cats haven't set a foot outside since one got attacked two weeks into my year there.
image
• There is a giant difference between a dog that brutally attacks another animal, and one that chases them around. One is violent, the other is a nuisance.

Once again, your reasons are stupid. If your horse wanted to, it could trample that dog, or kick it and the problem would solve itself.

But you calling the landlord on ANOTHER PERSON'S ANIMAL is not making your animals the problem.

ETA : Not calling the landlord. I mean calling the cops.
image
• Seriously Steffi, nothing you say is going to make us be like "Oh ok I get it now". Seriously. You will now be remembered as the dog macer. You might actually be worse than M&K. Good job.

Now fuuck off.
• I don't randomly kill animals - that's not at all an honest statement.

We're not in a city, the county authorities may have gotten involved. There would have been major issues with the landlord that I live 15' from a share a driveway with.

I offered to pay a trainer for the dog and was refused. I couldn't get out of my lease.
image
• The visual of a dog being maced is just heartbreaking.

The fact that someone maces a dog and then thinks "situation resolved" makes me weep for humanity.

Leisel, totally OT but you have some beautiful pics. I don't even like most wedding dresses but you look perfect in yours.
• I left for awhile and wow. Steffi, you make no sense. What I don't get is that you are so concerned about your animals being but then chose to hurt another person's animal. Yes, chose. You always have options. You chose violence.

• Good lord.  Let me preface this by saying I am not defending Steffi in the least, but it's really not that ridiculous to think that a horse can get injured from being chased by a dog.  It can happen, and if some neighbor dog was chasing my horses you can bet your ass I would take care of the problem.  That being said, obviously I think Steffi is nuts for how she is handling the situation.  Steffi, I don't understand how your landlord is stopping you from calling animal control.  Do they make you ask permission before using the phone?

• Steffi, you're an asshole. A cruel, cruel asshole. Go fuckk yourself.
• No adamar, but since they're the property owner and are onsight and they allow and encourage the dog, there's not a lot that can be done in the regards of calling and making a report. And, they would force my horses off the property.

I attempted talking nicely to the neighbors. I offered to pay a trainer to work with the dog, with whatever method the owners were okay with, if shock collar was chosen then I offered to buy the equipment needed. I took the dog home every time it was on my property, and I'm a freakin' insomniac who's up all night. I made all kinds of attempts to keep the dog at home, and no one did anything. If we'd had electric hot wire I could have run a ground wire, but we have 3 board wood and I rent so I couldn't run another fence.

This went on for several months of attempts at resolution, me retaining an attorney, attempting to break my lease, and lots of attempts at other resolution. I just wanted the dog to leave my horse the heck alone. I ended up moving my horse over 2 hours away for multiple reasons where I cannot ride her or see her because even with the dog leaving every time he saw me he still chased her when I was not home. She's older, with arthiritis, cushings, and chronic laminitis.

I really just wanted my horse to be left alone. I gave up on my cats after the dog chased my cat off the deck and into the woods and the cat went missing for 10 days. Cat come home with an abcess that required surgery, spent two days in the hospital, and lost 3lbs through his ordeal. Dog climbed over the deck gate to get the cat.

No one, dog's owner or property owner would do anything to help the situation. It was a very ugly situation on all sides and my horse was losing.

• You don't have to be the property owner to call animal control.  Just for future reference.

No, but if the property owner is on site and lives there it's a civil dispute about the dog more than a criminal dispute over the leash law. Because the property owner encourages the dog and has no problem with it being on their property.

I had this discussion with an attorney last year.

Push someone far enough into a corner and they'll eventually do something.

I'll never rent another farm, I'll board and rent or I'll own a farm, but that was part of the issue - the landlord has no contractural agreement to protect my horses as a boarding barn does and if I do something she's unhappy with she can claim that my animals are a nuisance and throw them out. I learned some lessons, but ultimately everyone lost in the situation.

I wish the dog would go away in a quick, painless way. But, I'm out of there at the end of August, my remaining horse is out mid August, and my cats have been sequestered for over a year and can't go sun on the porch. Because of irresponsible neighbors.

You know, maybe his owners should take some fuuucking responsibility.

Exactly. THE OWNERS. Not you.

Take it up with the owners and be persistent. Don't resolve to torturing an animal that doesn't know better.

If you're so desperate for a solution for your horse, then board it with the other horse. It's only a month.

FFS, you're absolutely BSC, because you refuse to see how what you're doing to this poor animal is DISGUSTING.

Question:

If your neighbor's child was tearing up your property and harassing your horses, (some farm kids are crazy) would you bear mace the kid too?

If that was actually happening, the parents would be to blame, because the child doesn't know better.

THE SAME LOGIC APPLIES FOR A DOG.

You are such an idiot.
