Jess - I haven't maced the dog in probably 8 months. I was persistent and consistent with the dog and the owners. They refused to do anything. I haven't ridden my horse is months because I've gotten chased by the dog 3 times while riding.

I don't know what I would do to a kid - I think that between parents/landlord someone would care more about a child.

I never told the dogs owners I wanted the dog around, previous tenant did. I neither like dogs nor enjoy their company, I do not like being jumped on and mauled on my way to work, I never wanted their dog around.

I had conversations with owners, with landlord, with owners and landlord, I offered to pay for training, I offered to rehome dog with rescue, At the time all of this was happening I had 11 months of my lease and I couldn't afford to board 2 horses out and pay to lease my farm. Why the heck would I lease a farm and not have my horses in the front yard? My god.

If you guys let your untrained idiot dogs run around loose and don't do something for the first 2 months the neighbor complains you're paid for when the neighbor kills them. I've heard of dogs being fed rat poison, anti freeze, I had offers from friends to shoot the dog. I maced him, that's it. He leaves me the heck alone now. Tough cookies.

Steffi, you said you never told the neighbors you like having the dog around. Have you specifically said, "Please keep your dog out of my yard"? Regardless of whether you're renting, it's still YOUR yard. Sure, you can't build a fence or anything, but you absolutely can tell people to get the fuckk out of it. That includes their dog. NOTE: Tell the neighbors to keep it away, don't mace it with bear spray, you goddamn moron.

I have no fucking idea why you haven't just called animal control or the police or something, regardless of what your landlord thinks. It's none of his goddamned business. The dog is harassing you and your animals, and nothing about that would indicate that YOUR animals were being a nuisance. Your landlord can shove it.

Since this started happening as soon as you moved in, I don't see why you didn't immediately start looking for a new place and break your lease. I would pay whatever penalty necessary to protect my family (and I consider my animals part of my family). Since you can't afford to care for them in a way where no animals are harmed, not just your own, maybe you should STOP OWNING ANIMALS.

The fact that you are unwilling to see any number of reasonable alternatives to your situation makes me think you're more than a few corn dogs short of a county fair. I cannot fathom how someone can be so heartless and stupid and still claim to love animals.

No one here will ever forget this. I can pretty much guarantee your time here will not be pleasant. How about you save yourself and everyone else some time and just GO THE FUCKK away. NOW. No one wants you here.

Special if you'd bothered to read the thread you'd see that I did make other attempts at resolution. I took the dog home every time I saw him on my portion of the property, I took him to the landlord's house for a while, I retained an attorney, breaking the lease would have been an option we could not have afforded due to legal fees and probably costs owed, I had numerous conversations with the owners of the dog and owners of the property. I offered to pay for training to train him not to chase horses. I told the owners I was going to have him shot. I went over there after getting dumped, twice, and had more conversations with them.

Dog was a civil issue, not a criminal issue. A/C and the police aren't involved in civil issues. Dog was (and is) welcomed by property owner who lives on sight and has care, custody, and control of property. 

I was advised to make my portion of the property unhappy for the dog. I carried a whip all the time while outside, I carried mace and bear spray. Dog leaves me alone. Dog left my horse alone when I was home. But, still bothered one so we ended up moving her for several reasons.

After several months of abuse of my animals and myself by the neighbors using their dog as a weapon, I didn't care. I'd been mauled, stepped in dog crap, knocked down, woken up, paid several hundred dollars in cat bills, dumped off my horse, watched my horse be chased night after night.
