    SapphireBride, I realize that you are a troll and your whole purpose here is to stir shiit up and piss people off.  But come the fuuck on.

    Btw, I've taken four different drugs for my anxiety (tried several before my doctor hit on the "right" one).  None of them made me high.

    Cardmonsta I LOVE the Buspar! It made all the difference in the world for me when they added it to my other med. And since it's safer for pregnancy than the SSRIs I don't have to worry about taking it when we TTC!

    <div>I was saying that anti-depressants do just a good of job (they just take a little ramp up time) and they aren't addictive. Soo if you have anxiety, you should avoid taking anti-anxiety meds... you should probably go with an anti-depressant unless your doctor, of course, has a good reason. </div>

    <div>You mean a period of several weeks to months?  For someone dealing with acute anxiety, that doesn't seem very plausible to me.  </div><div>
    </div><div>So you're saying that when I get a patient who cannot breathe because of the level of anxiety they are experiencing, I'll just give them an SSRI and tell them, "Now you should feel less anxious in approximately 4-6 weeks."</div>

    <div>Of course not, take your anxiety pill and then go back to your doctor and come up with a longer term plan like an SSRI. </div>

    Nope. Wrong again. Different medications work better or worse on different people according to their brain chemistry. So while an anti-depressant might work just fine on one person with anxiety it could do diddlysquat for someone else. To say that anti-depressants "do just as good of [a] job" as anti-anxiety meds is a gross generalization and over-simplicfication of how the medications work.

    Shan -- I like you too.  I disagree with your UO, but that's okay.  We're allowed to disagree, right?

    Sapphire -- not cool with the R word.  I care very strongly about mental health and incorrect public perception about medication addiction.  Antianxiety medications can be addictive if abused.  When used properly to treat a real disorder, they are not addictive.  If I said that women on the pill are addicted to the synthetic estrogen, would you agree or say that's ridiculous?  Because when they're on the pill, their bodies often stop producing natural estrogen and progesterone.  But is it an addiction or just treatment for unwanted fertility at the time?  Are people on Dilantin addicted to anti-seizure medicine?

    And reported. Again. Accusing Bay of being an addict because she takes anxiety meds is over the top and hurtful. And what makes you the expert? Are you a psychiatrist? Psycologist? Pharmacologist? Doctor of any kind? Or do you just google things and spout off shiit to piss people off on purpose?

    I'm guessing the latter.

    <div>
    </div><div>Of course it's a generalization- you should START with an anti-depressant route. If that doesn't work, obviously you have to look into other options. Aren't you embarrassed enough that you didn't know that there was a classification difference between anti-anxiety and anti-depressant? You can't beat me. Some people just are better at things than others- like for instance... I'm more intelligent and clearly, I'm better at making money if a $150 dress stresses you out so much ;)</div>
