Good morning!

Re: Good morning!

  • I think it kind of sucks that people told her that was a "dealbreaker' for them. Way to make her feel bad about something that she is trying to help the person she cares very much about. I don't know what i would do if I found out the person I was dating had a literacy problem but I dont think I'd immediately say "OH no, no way." So I think that was shitty.

This is true.  I'm just surprised that she left.

I only thought she got flamed a couple of times, and it was for pretty basic stuff.

I liked her too.  She tried a bit too hard to fit in, but she was never really a hugely annoying person.  She kind of just agreed and followed along with conversations.  Pretty non-confrontational on the whole.  I hope things work out for her.  Her H's GMA sounds like a wench and a half.

Honestly, I wouldn't have dated someone who couldn't read.  Some things are more important to some people than others.Sharing a love of reading is very important to me. My husband's  mild OCD might be a dealbreaker for someone else.
  • I liked Mari, she was really sweet. But with that she was sensitive so I can understand why she would leave. I'd rather she didn't though, she was cute.
  • Yeah I get that Muni but I just think the reaction (not necessarily you because I don't remember who was in the thread) of "OMG dealbreaker dealbreaker!" might have been a little much for this situation. I would've thought the same if someone said that they omg couldn't deal with OCD like you do with your H. I think certain "issues" can be crappy to bring up as "no way" like that. I dunno.

Like J? He's super conservative. I wouldn't be offended by people saying "NO way" coudl they date/marry someone like that. Because its politics. But if someone was like "I totally couldn't handle dating someone who has ____ disease/disability" I think it is a little insensitive.

Again, just my perspective. Doesn't mean its even what Mari thought at all.

  • I don't think anyone did present it that way though, Musu.  I recall (and I might just recall it incorrectly) as being more like "oh, wow, that's hard.  I couldn't do that!" and less of NO FUCKING WAAAAAY
  • I'm with Musu that saying it's a dealbreaker when she's trying to help him isn't helpful.
  • Ah, well that could be possible. I don't remember, I am just basing it off of people's reactions now to their recollections. WHO KNOWS! hah. Anyway. I do still feel pretty terrible for him to have to deal with that now.

  • Angel, that is just fine! :) Steal away. B

Button, I have a link to mine in my sig if you're interested.

I like Mari too. It hasn't really been that long since she left. She may have written this off completely or she may just be taking her time coming back. I thought it was great she was willing to help him learn to read.
  • I'm kind of just skimming that thread and I'm not that far into it, but I don't see too many people giving Mari shiiiit about her H not reading well. I wonder if it was brought up again at a later time?

  • I don't think anyone really did give her crap about him not being able to read.  If they did, they are basically terrible.  It may have been brought up another time, but I actually don't think it was.  The only thing about her H that people go on her about is the poor money managment, IIRC.

  • I thought I remembered someone saying another time that he reads at a third grade level and other people were like, "Omg are you serious? That would be a dealbreaker for me." But I could be totally wrong.

  • Huh.  Maybe.  I don't remember it, but it's certainly possible.

I just got a Groupon email for the Kenny Chesney/Tim McGraw concert in DC for August 12th. It's a pretty good deal, but a) I know FI can't go that day and b) I did see them last month. I kind of want to go though.

Just got back from lunch. Honestly if Mari's H can't read it's no wonder he's bad with money -- those are two life skills I tend to think probably go hand in hand.
