[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Is it too early for an evening thread? : I now feel bad for putting my horse through them last Spring.  The vet said they'd help his knees, but I didn't notice much difference. And hi, I'm back. Just made a carmel frapaccino that I found on Pinterest.  It was delicious.

A lot of people do really well with them.  Mine just hurt a lot and didn't do much.  I had two (in different places), and neither did much.  My doctor said some people just don't respond much to them.

    And happy anniversary tomorrow!

  • Most steroids suck in general.  I have a terrible reaction to dexamethasone.  My cortisone shots hurt like a mother fuckkker.  But prednisone?  That stuff is like my guardian angel and I love it.  Ha.  Doesn't make any sense.

  • The vet told me that he's seen performance horses go from crippled to competing horses again with them.  It wasn't the case with my man... He's now enjoying the rest of his life in my pasture.  He did enough for me for years, he deserves it.

And thanks!  Happy Birthday to you, right? Smile

I've broken ribs three times (I believe, it might be 4 - all on the left) and broke my tail bone once.

The tail bone was the worst of the injuries. But, ribs are no picnic, either.

Had a few concussions, 3 broken fingers, 4 broken noses, and 18 broken toes. 2 torn LCLs in my right knee, dislocated my right shoulder, dislocated my right pinky, and I think that's about it.

I was assistant trainer/working student for 6 years, I took some hard knocks. LOL

  • My horse related injuries are ridiculous.  One of the worst was fracturing my foot the night we got to a show in Wyoming.  It swelled massively overnight and then I had to shove it into English and Western boots.  Pretty sure my foot will never be the same.

<div>My dad broke a rib coughing. It was horrible. And because we don't have insurance he refused to go to the hospital. I mean, there isn't much they could have done to fix it but they could have at least given him something for the pain. It was terrifying, honestly. I was afraid that he was going to pierce his lung or something if a fraction of bone had come completely off. </div>

I had it last summer, but I never had a cough. We found it when I landed in the hospital with food poisoning. My doctor had been treating me for a stomach ulcer, and I was just feeling like crap. He had scheduled to do a scope to see why my 'stomach ulcer' wasn't healing.

Turns out that my ulcer pain was really pneumonia, but I never had a cough. Was the weirdest thing.

Sounds like the little girl I nanny for. She's quite the chubster, but she's do freakin cute. I've wondered whether she could have contributed to my injury.

I've had some interesting accidents with the horses, that's for sure.

I no longer ride for other people. I had a miscarriage after I got thrown a few years back, and even though it probably had nothing to do with the miscarriage, DH doesn't want me riding pro anymore or working in the industry. So, we have my horses and after our children are in school I hope to have a competition horse. Until then I'll just trail ride.

I go out and feed in flip flops sometimes. This is a good reminder not to do that anymore!

Sorry your guy is retired, I have two semi retired trail horse only horses now. Oh well, I haven't ridden much in a year, so it wouldn't matter anyway.
    image
  • Luckily in my few years of riding I never had any serious injuries or accidents, but I never rode seriously enough.  However, I've completed my bitten, stepped on, fallen off trifecta.  Just lucky enough to not be seriously injured in any of them!

  • The cheekbone wasn't too bad, Barrel, mostly because it's not like a finger or ankle or something you use often!  I just didn't do much smiling for a couple weeks ;)

I think my least favorite injury was dislocating my SI joint.

It's hard to watch them get old.  I still have one that I show somewhat competitively but I think next year will be my last year in the circuit.  It's just too expensive.

    Ouch. That sounds really painful!

I'm lucky that I haven't had huge injuries, just lots of little ones.  The fractured foot and fractured collar bone are the worst I've had.  And luckily I was pretty young so I bounced back/worked through the pain.

I've done good for the past few years, except my injuries in my sleep. LOL

I backed young horses and rode off the track horses to retrain them. I did pretty well. Most of the time. LOL

Hubby has been bitten, stepped on, and kicked by my more docile horse. I'm still trying to figure that one out. He's yet to ride, but plans to start next spring.

Those sound pretty big to me!  I've heard broken collar bones really suck.

My H does all the bone breaking, and I do all the weird stuff like dislocating my SI joint and destroying my shoulder, ha.  We're quite the pair ;)  He's broken ribs, collar bone, pelvis, punctured a lung, and dislocated both shoulders.

  • My friend gallops horses on the track.  You couldn't pay me enough to that.  I've gone and watched her.  That's terrifying.
  • Thanks BB!! : D I am also a part of TKs sparkly tits committee.
  • All of his sound extremely painful! Punctured lung? Yuck.

Collar bone wasn't too bad.  I just had to be really careful for awhile... And no riding.  My horse fell on me when we were running around a corner.  It could have been a lot worse but he rolled off of me really fast but didn't get up because my foot was still stuck in the stirrup.  That's one of the reasons that boy has a home in my pasture for as long as he needs.
