In Response to Re: Afternoon/evening/everything in between thread. : They started right around my 32nd birthday, so about a year and a half ago.  At first it was once a month, when my period started.  Then it was every two weeks, when I ovulated and when my period started.  Now I get them every few days.  They switch sides.  The triggers I've found so far are strong smells (like in AC Moore the other night when one came out of nowhere), stress, lack of sleep, cured meats like pepperoni and salami, and that's what I've been able to definitively figure out.  There doesn't really seem to be much rhyme or reason.  I've got an aromatherapy oil blend that helps and I use heat on my neck and head.  Disaster.  Thy name is Eagles.
Posted by EaglesBride2012
Ugh, you poor thing.  If you haven't already, and you've got the motivation, keeping a headache journal in writing can really help (unless you're just one of those unlucky people that doesn't need a specific trigger and just gets them all the time because your body hates you).  When I did it, I wrote down everything I ate and drank that day, the temp, humidity and barometric pressure, my stress level, how much sleep I got the night before, what perfume I wore that day, anything out of the ordinary I was exposed to, how much time I spent under fluorescent lights, how much time I spent reading and on the computer, everything I had done that day, where I was in my cycle, and some other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head.  It was easily a full notebook page, but I had  narrowed down my major triggers within two weeks.  It made it easier for me to say later on (without writing it all down), "Oh hey, I ate at Qdoba today and got a migraine, and I got one after the last time I ate there too, but not the time before.  I had nachos the past two times.  I bet it's the cheese."

It sounds crazy, but it made my life so much better.

I used ICQ.  We still use AIM at work occasionally.

Oh my lord, yes. I still remember my user ID number. :-P I have no idea why/how.
• Aw, acunpuncture too?  Jeez, man.  You're in rough shape.  A life story headache journal might be a waste of time.  You sound like a good candidate for a preventative med.

Eagles I will try to ask my SIL about the peppermint oil. She is a frequent migrainer, she's 24. Dr. said it was because of her period so they put her on the pill where you only get your period 4 times a year, it hasn't helped.. A friend told her about the peppermint oil, but I guess it's a hit or miss thing?

• Right now I would definitely prefer a hot lawn boy and/or gardnener.  I don't make enough of a mess inside the house to want a cleaning lady.  However when I actually have an H around to take care of the yard I'll much prefer the cleaning lady.  Fvck at this point I would take an ugly lawn boy if he kept my yard pretty for me.

ICQ and AIM were always opened on my desktop. Cue the "UH-OH" sound my ICQ used to make.

• Haha.. I do NOT remember my user number.  I had some friends of ICQ and some on AIM, so I usually had both up and running on my computer in college.
• During college if my computer was on, I was signed in to AIM & ICQ.
• I tried using peppermint oil for my migraines once, and it gave me an asthma attack.  Ha!

J, I've never heard of a headache journal. How long does it take to write? Is it something you have to learn a lot about to start, or you just write what you said. I get frequent headaches and it annoys me because I don't always get them from doing the same thing. Eagles, I feel your pain. I get headaches like that pretty frequently. I don't know if they are from spending too much time looking at a computer screen, I need to get my eyes checked again, or something else. I do have endometriosis, which can cause migraine's but I've never had them as often as I seem to now. Although yours sound worse than mine.

• @PetalPockets - I'm a little late to the party on this one, but I think you should come to PA. I live about an hour from Philly, up in Allentown. Even though I'll complain I'm bored, there really is a lot to see and do around here. I really should start getting off my asss and doing some of it. Haven't been to Dorney in at least 5 years. Maybe after the wedding...

I got a lot on AIM too, back when I actually used AOL's interface for dial-up. AOL had something like AOL Match, where you could create a dating profile. Both had their share of creepers, for sure.

It took me awhile, mostly because I needed to look things up, like the weather info.  I always had to wait until after I was recovered, so for two weeks I started writing things every day, even on days I didn't get a migraine, so I could do it at my leisure and it would be easier.

You definitely don't need to know a ton, just start writing crap.  I looked up common triggers to have a frame of reference, and it was really enlightening.  I had no idea that pressure changes could trigger migraines, and it turns out it's one of my triggers, so it was good for me to look it up.

Most doctors ask you to do it, so it's a good thing to have before you go see a doctor about it, because you can come in with it already done.

True story: my senior year in college, I lived one block away from the Watkins plant.  I loved the days they were running cinnamon, because the whole neighborhood smelled like apple pie.

• That's great advice! I may have to start doing that. I started going to a chiropractor a few months ago for my back. My headaches did diminish after I started getting adjusted, but I'm still getting them. He's of the opinion that since my back isn't 100% yet, and likes to reshift after a few weeks of not being adjusted, that it's the spinal fluid pressure. I'm not entirely convinced though

Yep. Not really a fan of it, though. There's only a handful of flights that fly nonstop and most of the ones out of Allentown fly you to Philly. When I can drive there in an hour and save a couple hundred on my ticket, I'm going to do that instead. But yes, that is where I am.
