Definitely. Your husband is way too fancy for a poor person, and that couple hundred you would get for selling him would totally save you from needing public assistance.
Edie, I would! I found a whippet on Craigslist looking for a home, but the listing was dated 11/27. I am going a little crazy trying to find the vet student who found the dog. The listing said they would just give her to happy home. (My home, obviously.) We shall see. Whippets aren't exactly popular in my teeny farming town.

I don't know how many times I have to say it. I'm not saying that selling things would get you off food stamps or turn your world around but it could help your financial situation. Let's see here. If I lost my job, couldn't find work and ended up on food stamps I'd sell.... My flat screen TV's, DVD collection, Jewelry and all sorts of stuff.
Thing is, and you might poo poo this, is that there is also a thing called psychological well-being. Sometimes having those petty things that might be worth 50 bucks is good for psychological well-being, or used to remember happy times, and that, you can't put a dollar amount on.
But it would suck to be poor, have to sell all of your stuff, then have NOTHING to look forward to, become depressed, then need medication you can't afford, and therapy you can't afford, because assholes like you are judging the shiit out of them.
I really am surprised people like you exist in 2011. It's just a level of antiquated thinking that I can't wrap my brain around.

Well it took you six pages to tell us what you'd sell, so there's that.
If people want to sell their things to get money to pay for other stuff, fine.
However, they've shown studies where poor people sold their "non-essential" stuff, and in the end, the people were still poor, they just had less stuff. And sometimes they were in worse positions because they were now poor with NO EQUITY.
I can't see how this conversation is going to go well for you, Robot, so I suggest that you back away.
If you get shot and you're bleeding everywhere, what's the first thing you do? Fashion a tourniquet and stop the bleeding, right?
...Okay. NOW WHAT.
Selling things like jewelry and DVD collections when you're in dire financial straights is an extremely short term solution for a long term problem. You're still bleeding.
I'm still confused by the fact that you originally said you'd sell you house and then after reasons were given not to came back and said that no, that was a necessity.
