Opinions

Well, it's as good as dead in here so far. So let's talk about opinions. They can be popular or unpopular, I'm not going to limit you.

I'll get this party started.

• I'm not fully informed on this topic as whole, but I think France's ban on people wearing burkas and cover-ups is a tad overboard.

• I don't think it's tacky or rude to use printed labels on an invitation.

    I agree with this 100%!

I haven't kept up with it lately besides watching the show, But I'm torn between whether or not the family from Sister Wives should be prosecuted. I don't agree with making an example out of them, but at the same time they're breaking the law...Idk.

Im relieved the gov't avoided a shut down but still irritated that it took until the last minute....that military families, the elderly that wait on SS, etc. were sitting on pins and needles not knowing what their future had in store for them or if there was even going to be a future for them

I think the first one is more than a tad overboard. I think it's straight up anti-Muslim. And I agree with you on the second one.

I think it's sad that people freak out about The National Debt, having no real understanding about it. I saw a poll this morning that the majority of Americans are against increasing the Debt Ceiling even though it's pretty much necessary at this point and the nation having debt (much like corporations having debt) is not a bad thing, particularly when there are assets available to cover said debt.

  • Regarding burkas:

I have many extremely liberal friends, and they are generally rabidly for the banning of burkas.  The idea being that some women are forced to wear the burka, and that is completely unacceptable.  By banning the wearing of burkas, we are protecting these women from being forced to do something that they don't want to do.

My take: by banning the burkas, you are forcing some women who WANT to wear the garment to stop doing so.  Basically, you are taking away the freedom of choice for ALL women in order to protect the women's freedom of choice of SOME women.  This seems to be a ridiculous lack of logic to me.

    Just my 2 cents.

I believe that manufacturers of birth control pills should add cranberry extract to their BCPs, so that I don't have to take cranberry supplements everyday to prevent the UTIs that I'm so susceptible to. They do it with Folate, why not cranberry too?

ETA: this is just me being lazy and not taking my cranberry until it's too late and I just wind up in the ER for hours so I can get antibiotics. I tried having my doc put it in my medical record that I can call in, tell him my symptoms, and then get a 'scrip done up at Walgreens, but no luck. Stupid doctor.

Pepsi is way better than coke. That's probably an unpopular opinion.   : )
  • Upon a closer work, the term Semitic can be used to refer to some groups of Arabs. I still think it is usually used in the context of Judaism but I guess technically it could include Muslims if it is reference to Arabs from certain areas.

So I guess I retract my previous comment.

I so agree with you on this, Milkduds. Listen here, ladies. Skirts and dresses are not that uncomfortable. I always prefer skirts/dresses on planes because pants are uncomfortable when you sit for long hours. Same for the dudes - just because you have sweatpants that are comfortable does not mean they are appropriate travel attire.

I want to try a pair of pajama jeans. ( I hate jean shopping and buying a pair that I could pull right up would make me oh so happy)

I also do not care whether or not I get a favor at a wedding. If it is edible, great! If not, it probably sits somewhere in my house until it gets thrown out. (My mom was a huge PITA about our favors!)

  • And I totally agree with the plane thing. It has now become the 'norm' to try to be as comfortable as possible. The funny part is I always (somewhat) dress up for two reasons; I'm going to a new place and want to make a good impression, and you never know who you could be sitting next to on a plane (not meant in a slutty way, I just mean professionally or who knows..).

I always dress nicely because in college I was part of a group that flew often.  It was instilled in us that we dress in business attire on planes, especially when we were flying commercial because we were representing the university.  Now I use the same logic, except I'm not representing my university I'm representing myself.

    Sorry, Reddy.  : (

Don't get me wrong, I think good calligraphy is great. I enjoy it and think it's beautiful and a really excellent skill to have.

I just think that if you put a nice printed label on an invite (not talking about a free ASPCA return address label with paw prints on it) that it's not a big deal. I wouldn't care if I received one, and if I send them out that way and someone thinks I'm lazy and don't care then they should just decline the invite. We wouldn't want them having to suffer through my lazy, uncaring wedding full of wonderful food, drinks, desserts, dancing etc.

I don't know, to me, it just seems like a minor thing to judge someone for.

But it's the same the other way too. If they're just prosecuting them because they're on TV (while it was their choice, and I don't agree with it, because they knew this could happen). They should be prosecuting the other polygamists that aren't on TV too.
And I feel like they would get a harsher punishment because they are so public.
