My coworker is from alaska and I just learned from her about the Alaska benefit they get every October. Apparently the govnt gives every Alaskan a check each October. She said hers was about 1200. Wtf I want that!

I know someone that lived in Alaska, and they were poor growing up.  There, when you're in poverty, you can sign up a list where the city/county/whatever will call you when someone hits a moose or elk or other large animal, and you can go collect it for free and skin it and butcher it and have the meat for free--it's their government assistance.  She said one moose would feed their family for almost a year.  Which is insane.

• Wow that is crazy, J! But I like it. Makes the trophy hunting actually go to better use.
In Response to Re:Sunday Evening: We're watching that too. Makes me want to read the books again, which would probably be the 12th time, haha.
Posted by angelstar975
<div>Yeah, I'm a super nerd about hte books. The movies are meh. I got excited to see them the first time, but I won't watch them over and over and over again like I can read the books. </div>
• Evening. I got sunburned today, even with SPF 30. :( The river was really fun, though. I hope we go again next weekend!
• I can see a large Moose giving a lot of meat. We knew someone that would hunt deer. My dad would help him butcher it (eeew) and we'd have deer for like a year. But, being fair, we didn't eat it every day like those families probably did.

Do they not have any other assistance though?
• We just watched Ocean's 11 (13 was on TV which inspired me to put the DVD in) and it's almost over.  Not sure how much longer I'll be up.  Not more than an hour, I'm pretty sure.
• I'm going to try to get an early night tonight. I've got to go to the post office so I'll likely head out early so I can avoid the worst heat of the day.
• My dad used to hunt and an elk would last a whole year, but we ate other meat too.
• Our pigs last about a year, but we don't eat ham every day. ;) And I bet 1/4 of a steer would feed H and I for a year.

Well, I don't know for sure, but I'm sure they do.  This was just one way--and a way which helped cut down on government spending, for sure.

• I think it's a good plan. I mean - free meat! I wish my dads friend still hunted. Mmm.
• J hunts deer and usually one deer will last a year but that is mainly because we only eat it on occasion and it usually just J. I don't love venison.

• Apparently Usher's step-son was in a jet ski accident or something and has now been declared brain dead. That's so sad. He's only 11.
• I don't like venison one bit, but I've only had it a couple of times.
Steffi - I coudln't live in Alaska. I would visit  for the Northern Lights, but not move. I like nights and days too much.

If John and I weren't together I would be living in Alaska. I've come very close to moving there a few times, down to going up and interviewing for jobs.

Who needs daylight and dark... I'm an insomniac who doesn't sleep. LOL

<div>I haven't either. I also haven't seen all of The Godfather, Mission Impossible, or the Bourne series. </div>

</div><div>I like them. You should watch them if you get a chance. They are on TV all the time.

• The Bridezillas from last week with the crazy girl that ended up single is still making me laugh.

She was NUTS.
• Oceans 11 is the best of the trio.  The Bourne trilogy is awesome!  I gifted H the Godfather movies a few years running (one each year) as a stocking stuffer at Christmas.
• I liked the first Oceans movies, but my dad and John says that the follow ups weren't as good, so I haven't watched them.

I hated the Bourne movies and walked out of the one we saw in theaters. They made me sick from the way they were filmed. I heard that the last Oceans movie was filmed much the same way, but I don't know if that's right or not.

<div>I WANT TO SEE IT, DAMN IT!</div>
• I saw The Bourne Identity and liked it, and I have the other 2, but I've not watched them.

I've never seen The Godfather, but I have no desire to. Same goes for Mission Impossible and Star Wars.

I know, the last one is blasphemous to many, but I just can't get it up for Star Wars.
• Oh man that is really sad. Poor kid.

<div>I don't think we can be friends anymore.</div><div>
</div><div>Actually, while I enjoyed watching them, I am not one of those that thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread. </div>
• I had no desire to see the Godfather trilogy either but then 2 years ago I ended up watching all 3 with J. I actually really liked them, which I did not expect.

• I haven't watched Star Wars. DH is a huge fan. Huge Fan. He's had them on when I'm home and I've tried to watch them, but even when I had more free time I had no desire to see them.

MI - the first one was good, haven't see any since then. My dad said they weren't as good. He has them, but I haven't borrowed them.

I want to see One for the Money - made off the Janet Evanovich book, waiting on mom to come home from Cali so we can watch it together.

• The only thing that I've ever enjoyed Tom cruise in was Tropic thunder. Otherwise his face just bothers me.

I'm sorry to disappoint, Poke!

I'm a HS theatre teacher, and we have one other theatre teacher, so as you can imagine, we work very closely together---she's a die-hard <em>Star Wars </em>fan---all the way to having Vader decals on her truck---and she's managed to overlook it., so you can too. I believe in you! :)
