Will you get it on the same day? I am so confused, I should just call but I get the feeling i'm bugging them.

  • Mari, that still seems expensive. But you gotta do what you gotta do, I guess.

I don't see why they wouldn't be able to get it to you the same day, but beaurocracy, sooooooo...
  • we had to go apply for ours in person, wait a week, and then go pick it up at the same place.

Ugh Douglasville is trying to make up for their debt is what it is, you get a ticket for something minor and you're shelling out $300.

  • I'm confused, if you pay for the marriage license, that doesn't cover your actual copy of the license? I don't see why you need more than one original -- just use a copy machine for other copies?

  • On the note of blood drawn, I've only had it done a few times, but I guess I must have good veins or I'm lucky because I've never had issues.

When I got the meningitis shot before going to college though, apparently they are supposed to make you sit for a bit before they let you go.  The nurses just let me go and as I was waiting for the elevator I started to get light-headed.  I sat down on a bench, but felt better when the elevator arrived so I got up to get on it.

To the left of the elevator was the men's room.  As I went to walk into the elevator, I blacked out and fell into the men's room.  (I'm used to episodes like that because I have a condition where my body is VERY sensitive to drops in my hydration/bpressure.  When I workout, I have to make sure I've had a TON of water during the day to prevent lightheadedness and blacking out.)

Fortunately my mom was there AND we were right outside the Dr's office.

Anyway, long story short, my sunglasses had fallen off my head when I fell into the men's restroom.  After I left the Dr's office after they checked me out to make sure I was ok, I had to sneak into the men's room and find them.  It was just generally an awkward experience.

  • Well I hope we get it in the same day so we can go straight to the Social Security office, since H and I are already going to be off work. We simply cannot take anymore time off work, especially me. But gotta do what you gotta do.

I am too! I mean what was my $16 for then? It would've been $50 had we not done Premarital Counseling.

When I need a new certified copy recently they emailed me one and charged me $3 even though there was no paper or postage involved. See that's good, I want it emailed to me. That would be awesome, of course here it would probably be much more than $3 if they actually do that.

  • Wait, how is an email copy any better than a physical one that you scan? (Serious question, is there some encryption or something they can do to make it valid?)  I'm planning on getting at least three certified paper copies, because we'll need them for visas & school & all sorts of crap.

</div><div>Yeah it is pretty ridiculous here. I know they discounted it to $40 for premarital counseling, but to me that wasn't saving any money because I'd still have to pay SOMEONE for the counseling. So either way, I'd still pay around the same amount. </div>

Yeah that's crazy, thankfully our counseling was free or I wouldn't have bothered with it.

I just checked the website, they upped it to $115 now.

  • Midge, are you getting married in Cincinnati?  I think ours was pretty inexpensive and the certified copy was waiting for us when we got back from our honeymoon.
  • MuSu - are a lot of people getting married in Minny so they figure it's a good way to save funds or something?  That is a heck of a lot of money! (I guess in comparison to the whole wedding cost, it's not too much).
  • Wow Musu. That's a lot. Our counseling was free too, Mari. That's probably where the real perk comes in. If the counseling is free for a couple, it really is $40 saved. Otherwise it might cost more to have counseling with the marriage license.

</div><div>I'm not sure. I think it is the same price in other, more rural counties too, not just Mpls/St Paul. Until reading here, I really didn't know that it was so much cheaper elsewhere.</div>

  • MP - Nope. Contrary to my location on here, I have always been a Kentuckian in the "Greater Cincinnati Area". We're getting married at our church in Kentucky.

I knew that you lived in NKY (Special told me), but I wasn't sure if you were getting married in Ohio.  We got married in Hamilton County (Cincy), and our fee was $45.

<div>Same here, if NC wants us to get premarital counseling we'd have to pay for it. </div>
  • Ours was 60$ and 10$ for each copy.  I think we're ordering 3 JIC
  • Muni, do they make us get counseling?
