[QUOTE]I judge anyone and everyone who lumps Tea Party activists as racist.  Really?  Is everyone a racist?  Do you define every group of people by their craziest member?  I challenge anyone who says those things to call me a racist to my face.  I have yet to meet someone who has the balls to say it.  It obviously really annoys me when people rip on the Tea Party movement based on what they watched on MSNBC.  MSNBC and FOX are equally ridiculous news stations.  Labeling someone as a racist/bigot is extremely hurtful and tarnishes their name and that movement.  Am I saying that every Tea Party activist is a rocket scientist?  No.  But you sound just as stupid as the people with racist signs when you throw generic labels on people/things that you know nothing about just because it's "cool" to diss them.

okay, how bout if I say Tea Party activists are totally misinformed and ignorant to follow a bullshit "grass roots" organization, and at least 90% of them are racist?

You're still as stupid as the racist signs.  You're being ignorant for not doing your own research.

I've stopped moving to the side.  I make eye contact and am not afraid to hit them with a shoulder if they decide they don't need to move.

I also tend to mumble something about their behaviour on the way by as well.  LIke "jackass" or just a general jesuschrist.   I'm getting crankier with people like that :)

Everyone knows when, where, she has posted ONE MILLION status updates about how awesome it's going to be, but no one is invited. Yeah, I totally hit decline. And I totally judge.

  • I have a big problem with the fact that the majority of the Tea Party members don't even know what the fvck they're mad about. they were lied to about Obama wanting to kill grandma, and how he isn't from the U.S., among other things. then, FreedomWorks sent them packages for how to disrupt town hall meetings on health care--health care that would BENEFIT them. but instead, they just yell and interrupt information, and say ridiculous things like "any reform is bad reform." really? you're fighting FOR the insurance companies? are they fighting for you? no. in one of the worst recessions in the US history, they're cutting people off and at the same time, managed to make a profit of $12 billion.

  • Besides FreedomWorks, there are other organizations who are part of the "grass roots" Tea Party movement. These organizations are run by people like milti-millionaire Art Pope and the 19th richest man in the world, David Koch. These are not your average Joe American, which is what grassroots organizations are supposed to be run by. The people who run these organizations have corporate interests in keeping healthcare the way it is, or to rally against labor legislation or oil industry reform.

Where are you getting your information from?  This HC bill does NOT benefit me.  At all.  In fact, this HC bill helps the big bad insurance companies.  There were deals made willy nilly, as always, because that's how the game of politics is played.  Should people yell and be a jerk at town halls?  No.  Should their questions be answered and should politicians be held accountable.  Definitely.  Politicians rarely help anyone but themselves and their special interests.  Both parties.  All the time.

Oh yeah, if it's little old people who I feel bad running into, I just stand there. No pretense, just me standing there, making it clear that they are in my way and that I am waiting for them to get out of it.
  • This HC bill does NOT benefit me.
you are not the only person I'm talking about here. if you have some kind of mega-kickass healthcare, good for you. most people who work for big companies do. however, small business owners, for example, get fvcked by the health care in this country.
  • You're just writing Rachel Maddow soundbites.  That's not research.

If you're so awesome at your research, which you aren't, you should look into how grassroots organizations like FreedomWorks, Americans for Prosperity, and the specific Tea Party groups work.  Who gets the work done?  People like you and me.  The national organizations can only do so much.  It truly is being done on the ground.  Same with MoveOn.  They mostly get their techniques from Saul Alinksy, the original grassroots activist from Chicago who, btw, was liberal.

    I work for a non-profit, but thanks.

This isn't a cop out, and I'm definitely willing to debate this via PM, but there is no point for us to argue because we're not going to change each other's minds.  I didn't want to thread jack this for political discussion and people who don't care about it shouldn't have to read our battle of the words.  Is that ok?

I know a bride who has SIX registries - with a lot of repeat items. Also, she's been living with her FI for around a year and a half, so I find no reason why she feels compelled to register for so much. I judge.

Why? Just curious. And do you mean that like people who refuse to go to something specific without their SO (like wouldn't attend an OOT wedding if the SO couldn't go) or people who don't want to vacation or otherwise travel solo?

I used to feel like doing a trip by myself was something I "should" do, but I decided that there was no need to do it just for the sake of doing it - I don't have anything to prove and know I can organize things and get around by myself, and I would rather spend my vacation time enjoying the company of other people I like than going off on some personal quest.

None of the solo trips I've done have started out as personal quests.  The situation dictated that I either go alone or don't go at all.  So I went.  I didn't think it was important at all to do it.  Until I did it.

Now I don't mind having vacation time to myself.  I still enjoy traveling with my husband or friends, but I recognize the value of solo experiences as well.  It isn't all about personal quests.

And solo travel isn't all about  vacation.  There are several other kinds of travel.

  • Sorry Moose, I didn't mean to say that it by definition had to be a quest, that came out wrong. I would go too if faced with the choice of either do something I wanted to do along or not at all.

But since that hasn't happened, I didn't see any reason to force it by saying "ok, here I go, traveling alone because a few people I've known who did it came back saying that it was such a great experience and everyone should do it." I know I could do it, I think it's great that they did it, but if H can go, 99% of the time I'd rather have him along for the ride too.
