WFL? Opinions - Unpop or Not, Irritations - Irrational or Not

Me? I'm having chicken salad with a wrap and cucumbers. Then I have popcorn for a snack later this afternoon.

Irritation - I hate when a client acts like I'm making something up. We have to tax certain things at my job and tax laws are set by VA. It should be enough for me to explain to the client what the taxes are and why they are assessed. No, this client wants the actual law/rule from the VA Department of Taxation because she doesn't believe what I'm telling her.

Opinion - I think for our country's worst offenders someone should create sensory deprivation chambers. Suspend them in a substance that doesn't allow them to feel, smell, touch, taste, see. Keep them alive, but I think being deprived of senses, and essentially beling left in the dark, could be a fate worse than death.

  • Possibly Edie. I haven't seen it, but I read about them in a book series where the protagonist was trapped in one. Seemed pretty miserable just being left with your own thoughts.
    image
  • I read a book  (Dean Koontz I think) and the "bad guy" used sensory deprivation in order to force out of body experiences.  Creeped me the fluck out.  Please don't do that to our scariest criminals, just in case.
    image
  • I have a leftover stuffed pepper for lunch.  They weren't as good as normal, but oh well.

My textbooks are irritating me this semester.  The requirement was for the stupid "bundled" package, so I'm not entirely sure the textbooks I rented are the right ones.  Hell if I'm buying brand new textbooks just to get the stupid online access code.  I'll buy that separate, thankyouverymuch.

Being deprived of all senses sounds absolutely terrifying.

I don't understand. Don't do it because you don't want them to have out of body experiences? Just want to clarify.

  • I'm babysitting my nephew today while my sister is at work, and she's bringing us Schlotzsky's for lunch. :)

Irritation - We're having trouble finding a new place to live, and with only 6 day until we have to give our apartment notice of leaving, I'm getting panicky. We're looking to move out August 31, and nobody wants to wait the month of August. Jerks.

Opinion - I think this has been somewhat unpopular, but I still don't understand why people bring their little kids to midnight premieres of movies. They're kids, and don't care about being the first to see it, (not to mention that they don't do midnight premieres of kid-movies). If you want to go to the midnight premiere, get a sitter or, you know, don't go.
  • Cfas it's actually tax on a service charge, not an actual item. Here's the actual wording:

    "23VAC10-210-930. Meals

If the dealer adds an amount or flat percentage to the meal price, whether the amount is designated as a tip or as a service charge, the addition is a part of the sales price and is subject to the tax even if the amount or flat percentage is paid over in part or in whole by the dealer to employees. Lunch is yogurt, berries, veggies, hummus, and probably some cheese left over from a party on Friday.

That sensory deprivation thing sounds like overkill.  FI said after he heard about the Colorado shooting that he wished we would torture regular criminals because that might deter them from committing crime, and I don't know that I agree.  Criminals will commit crime, usually regardless of consequence.  That dude is obviously very ill, and even though his crime was planned, threat of torture may not have changed his mind to commit it.

My irritation is that our office phones don't work.  That means I have to use my cell if I need to make a call, or our president needs to call my cell.  I had to change a flight yesterday and spent over an hour on the phone with jetblue, on my cell phone, which is harder to cradle between my shoulder and head than a regular handset.
  • Hi! :)

Still early here, but I will be having a hummus and veggie wrap for lunch.

Unpop Op/ I judge- people who do not know how to hold a fork and knife properly when cutting a piece of meat.

  • I desperately need to go shopping.  Lunch will probably be whatever I can put together between whats in the pantry and the fridge.

Irritation--My former workplace FINALLY got back to me about the hospital bills I received for my on-the-job injury.  The injury was originally supposed to be taken care of by worker's comp, but soemone dropped the ball on that one.  I got another bill from the hospital yesterday and I called them to let them know this was a workers compensation claim.  They asked me a whole bunch of questions I don't have the answer to because the HR representative at my old job has all of that information.  And I repeatedly told them that.  And to top it off, the HR rep doesn't have a direct line.  To get to him, you have to go through a series of prompts and then leave him a voice mail.

Mkrup - it's because during these OOB experiences, they were able to kill others.

  • I agree with Stage's opinion too. I mean establishments have the right to refuse service to anyone, why don't kids count?

  • For lunch I have leftover beef roast, sauteed spicy green beans and mashed sweet potatoes.  I'm excited :)

Irritations:  When I'm wanting to turn right on red and there is one car blocking my way that's going straight.  It's completely irrational, I know, but so annoying.

  • There are times when I wish we could have refused service to kids.  The area I live in has a curfew on school nights during the school year, and Bdubs stays open until 1 AM.  We had teenagers come in all the time after movies.  We could have called the police so many times for curfew violations, but my manager cared more about making money (not that we would make much off them anyways).

And it sounds really judgy, but we would have to keep an eye on them because the majority of our walkouts happened with teenagers.

Opinion, popular or no: I think the NCAA needs to re-evaluate the importance it places on super awesome athletic programs.  I read the NY Times article today where the head is saying that the environment needs to change so scandals like this do not happen, but I think its pretty much all talk and pandering to the media.  It isn't going to change.  I'm positive that this isn't the only cover up within a powerful college sports team.  There have been others, and there will be more.  I don't think I'm expressing myself well, but the Penn State scandal has made me very angry.
  • WFL: Leftover lasagna. It was yummy.

Irritation: The X and I had a joint account that overdrafted a month ago because of his mistake so I wanted him to pay the overdraft fees. He didn't, so we got charged more fees. SO I paid half of it if he agreed to pay the other half by yesterday so I could close the damn account. Well he didn't and the monthly fee went through while it was still negative so now it's -$80 because the douche couldn't put in $25 dollars by yesterday. I'm super pissed.

Opinion: I have none right now, I'm too angry with the X.

Lunch -- haven't decided yet, might even skip since I'm having a ridiculously early dinner because of class.

Irritation: a wedding I'm going to in September.  The bride just sent out invitations to her jack and jill party and is selling tickets.  I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, until she announced that this was a chance for them to celebrate with all of their friends, even the ones who weren't invited to the wedding.  Ugh.  She's not the type of person who will take criticism well, either, so I'm just not saying anything.  I did tell her that asking people to dress 80's for her wedding was against etiquette, but she got upset and most of our friends were okay with it, so I ended up looking like a jerk.

Opinion: MK, you just described my worst sort of hell.

irritation- I had to give a 1/2 hour presentation this morning for a class I am taking through work.  They could have told us they would be video taping the presentation.  The camera was 10 feet in front of my face, and directly in front of those I was presenting to.

unpopular opinion - I also judge those who take their children to midnight premiers, bars, etc in the late hours.  Once you have a child, it isn't about what you want anymore, it is about what is best for the total upbringing of the child.

[QUOTE]I'm eating waffles with peanut butter for lunch. My co-worker thinks I'm strange, but I feel sick and it sounded good. Unpop opinion - I think the guy in the CO shooting is going to try for an insanity plea, but I don't care if he is insane, he should still spend the rest of his life in jail. If it's insanity, that type I don't think can be cured by medicine and therapy, and he's proven himself to be capable of doing great harm to others.  Also, I think he might be trying to play up the "I might be crazy" appearance in hopes of getting off.

Maybe this is unpop?  I have been thinking a lot about the shooter's family.  My heart is shattered for them.  I was really thinking about it quite heavily last night.

I don't know if this even made national news, but right near where I work, at Weslyan University, a girl was shot to death a few years ago.  One of my coworkers went into the chapel a few days after the killer was apprehended, and he found the killer's father in the chapel on his knees.  He was just completely wrecked.  People were shunning him, saying that it must have been a bad family life that caused his son to do what he did.  He felt so lost and alone and horrible.

<div>I'm with you on this, especially the bars part.  We would have people bring their infants...in their car carriers...in to the bar at Bdubs.  It was also the smoking section as well.  I can't imagine exposing your child to all that second hand smoke, especially an infant who can't express how much they don't like it.</div>

AATB, whenever these things happens I feel sorry for the shooter's family.  Unless it was a truly abusive environment, it stands to reason that it really wasn't the family's fault, and they'll go through life getting the "Oh so you're the family of that crazy person who shot up a movie theater" recognition.
  • Also on the midnight movie bit - did any of your parents take you guys to NYE parties as a kid?  I'm not talking about like, ragers with debauchery, but my parents would take us to another couple's house with kids and other couples with their kids would come.  It was so fun to stay up til midnight, it was like, the one night where we didn't have to worry about bedtime.  Lol half the kids were passed out before then anyway.

I don't really know why someone would bring a baby or infant or whatever to a midnight movie, but I don't really have problems with kids being there.  Maybe those kids are BIG fans of Batman, Spiderman, whatever - they would remember forever how special it was that mom and dad took them to see a MIDNIGHT showing of a movie you had been waiting for for a long time, and to see it before lots of your friends?  I dunno.  I just don't mind it.

  • Texas, that's not judgy- that's truth.

    DINNER: BLT's Yeah, baby.

Unpop op- Even though it annoys the piss out of me sometimes here, I think parents in the US deserve more maternity/paternity leave. 6 weeks is ridiculous and when they come back, they aren't even able to focus anyway, so let them stay home for 6 months and go on.

Irritation-- My weight. I gained 4lbs in a week. W.T.F.
  • I was treated to tacos at my new favorite place.  Yum.

Irritation:  My grandmother called me to say happy birthday and then spent 10 minutes telling me all about my cousin and how he is going to be such a great dancer someday.  I like my cousin and I like hearing about him, but for one day out of the entire year it would be nice if my family paid a little bit more attention to me and what I am doing.

Opinion: As bad as I feel for the shooter's family, a little part of me blames them for not seeing the warning signs that their son was losing it.

    Ski, your sig is beautiful!

  • ITA AATB. Some people will look to the parents to blame for his upbringing, but that's just not fair. I read Columbine recently (and admit immediately started drawing parralels to this incident). There is no profile for a mass shooter like this. Other than being male, there is no one stereotype that researchers can pinpoint and say, if someone shows X markers in their social/home/work/etc life, they will become a mass shooter.

So to me, looking to the parents to see what they did wrong, is just, well, wrong.
