Re: Evening

  • Special - that's so obnoxious. I don't care if you think the death penalty is okay - there is NO REASON to cheer for someones death. I would have had a hard time not throwing a book at his head > ; (

[QUOTE]Yeah, we had to watch them. Multiple kinds. One asshole cheered every time the prisoner was pronounced dead, or if they cried or looked scared/hurt. The professor finally told him he'd fail the class and be refused admittance into any future classes of hers if he did it one more time. One girl cried every single time. I, on the other hand, suddenly found Words With Friends extraordinarily fascinating.

WTF, that's seriously awful. Was it mandatory that you watch it? I would have gotten up and left, and them probably complained to the dean.

  • Oh God, Special WTF.  I can't even watch it in cinema, and it's fake!

  • That is really sad, Special. I had a hard time watching parts of the Green Mile because of that.

I have faith that you will find something even better, Bay! It does suck though, so I am sorry it happened. :(

I'm currently recovering from a minor panic attack and trying to take a break from my all day of studying.

  • Random MIL story for you all (and yes, it's somewhat on point):

A few Christmases ago, we hosted. We very politely insisted that no one needed to bring anything--we would be preparing all the food. MIL showed up with an enormous bucket of cookies she baked. H just kind of stuck them in the corner and ignored them.

After dinner, his nephew went rummaging for more food. He opened the box, then yelled at the top of his lungs, "OMG, Nana! Why did you make dong cookies? This is Jesus's birthday, not Mary Magdalene's!"

H's aunt swore the cookie cutter really was shaped like an old-fashioned candle holder, complete with little tray. Somehow, that morphed into cookies with a distinct penis-and-testicle look. She frosted them, too, so it was even worse.
  • Musu - some wine will clear that right up ; ). I would also try to rope H into a massage!

Special - that's freaking amazing. I would have died laughing.

I have been phone calls all day long from different phone numbers, all with my area code. Not a single person has left a voicemail, and I don't really want to answer. Really weird.

Panic attacks are the worst, was it because of finals? Definitely take a nice break, it does you no good if it's giving you anxiety.

  • At every point registering for the class, we were warned that it would include graphic content. The books describe things in exact detail. This professor is known for teaching the classes no one else can stomach. It was with her that I had to watch an autopsy last quarter. Two people barfed. I was fascinated, and now she loves me.

But yeah, the executions got to me.
  • Hahah that is pretty funny Special.

There were penis straws & whistles at my bach party, but that's it. But we played some "dirty" themed board games which were actually a lot of fun.

I guess if it's an elective and nobody HAS to take it, then it's okay, but I feel like watching real executions is a bit much. Why are they even filmed?

<div>It was a mixture of finals & money stress. And really needing a puppy snuggle, haha. I am waiting for my mom to get home and make me some dinner. I'll probably vent to her and she'll make me feel better.</div>

<div>Probably for legal reasons. That way if someone tries to claim that something unethical happend during the execution they can watch the video to investigate. </div>

<div>No, I don't. I really don't have panicky episodes much because on the whole, I'm fairly laidback person and rarely panic about things. I just think the money & finals stress combined has really gotten to me. </div>

<div>I believe they're filmed for liability reasons. In case something goes wrong, the state can try to show they did things by the book.</div><div>
</div><div>Erin, I have no idea how they were released. Some are older, some are more recent with identifying details (names, faces) obscured. Some are foreign. She tried to explain how the university managed to get them, but I was a little late to class and missed the first part of her explanation.</div>

That definitely makes sense. I tihnk it's strange that people can just watch them... if I were executed, I wouldn't want it used for educatonal purposes. I also really wouldn't want to be executed, so there's that, ha.

I just don't believe execution is ethical period, so taping it and showing it to anyone just makes it worse to me.

<div>I am not. I'm a poli sci major focusing in public administration. I heard that about half the department's graduates apply to law school, though, and many classes are offered jointly with the criminal justice program, which also produces a lot of students for law schools and police academies.</div>
