I judge / unpop ops

Entertain me people!! My belated unpop op? I hate programs where people get free toys for their kids for xmas. I realize the kids did nothing wrong and *most* people who benefit from it deserve the help but I hate that the skeezers who milk the system get oFf the hook, again. Maybe I don't hate the program entirely, just that it gives undeserving people an easy out.

  • It makes me nervous when I see people driving a standard and smoking at the same time. Yes, i talk on my phone while driving, but its not on fire.

  • Nebb- Along the same lines, my family decided to "adopt a family" for Xmas one year and were given first name, age, and "wish list" for that family.  It was a family of 5.  When I dropped the stuff off at the donation place, they took the gifts and put them in piles of "boys 12-14, girls 4-6" etc.  It pissed me off that they sent me this whole letter about how hard the family struggles etc, only to take my gifts and toss them in a pile to be handed out how they feel.

I dont like being lied to.

Also, I wont even get into what was on the "wishlists"

  • I hate TK line of "No one will ever be as excited about your wedding as you are." That line annoys the crap out of me and I don't think it's even true. H and I's mothers were way more excited about the wedding than we were.

I guess my point is that I don't understand what the big deal is about brides-to-be being upset when their parents show no interest whatsoever. I'd be hurt if my parents didn't care too.
  • On the same note as the Christmas programs, we "adopted" a family through our work this year and gifts the parents asked for were ridiculous. Like perfumes I cannot even afford to buy myself. I adopt a family so the kids can have a Christmas, TBH I don't care if the adults get a gift.

  • I judge FI's company. They had a "kids Christmas" where every child of an employee was sent a $25 toy, but the actual employees got squat - no bonus, no gift card, no meal. FI asked about gifts for his little half-brothers who are 5 and 3 but since they are not our children (we have no actual kids, just furbabies) his manager said that they didn't qualify. I was not impressed.

I've had the opposite experience with adopting families. However, here it is all coordinated through one place with one set of criteria, to prevent duplication. The Austin Travis County Christmas Bureau is awesome, and it totally a volunteer org from what I can tell. Both families we have adopted were in great need (single mom with toddler and grandparents raising 5yo grandson while his mom was in jail) and were supremely thankful when we dropped off the presents. If someone would have acted ungraciously, I'd have taken the presents back.

Also, they reach out to homebound seniors as well. So you can adopt an old person. They had all sorts of things on their wishlists from slippers to gft cards for prescriptions (CVS, etc)

  • I judge parents who let their 5 year olds wear 3 inch heels.

My sister had a b-day party for my nieces 1st birthday on Sunday.  It was at her pizza place and the kids made their own pizzas, did sand art, and painted masks.  One of the kids wore this sequins dress and strappy high heels.  She was 5 and a friggin brat.

I may have laughed at her everytime she slipped on the tile and took a spill on the floor.

Isn't that kind of what a resolution is, though? A plan to better yourself/improve your life/whatever it may be? Sure, it's not a set-in-stone plan, but it's something.
  • I hate when people do their makeup and drive. I was rearended by a lady going 100kms (approx. 60 for you Americans) and was off work for almost 7 months, and when DH seen her coming behind us, he said she wasn't even looking out the front windshield and looked like she was doing something like putting make up on.  sooo stupid!

    I like that.  :)

I understand and even applaud the sentiment.  It's a "Don't wait until the New Year to resolve to make a positive change; do it now, and do it well!" kind of a thing.  It's only when the delivery turns holier-than-thou that I want to start kicking kittens.

    (Not really.  I like kittens.)
