I definitely value being a good host, and a good guest. Miss Manners is great and she's been around for 40 years for a reason. But that doesn't mean that we should berate people who have a more modern or simply different set of priorities. After all, the fist rule of etiquette is that you don't point out the perceived missteps of others, or make people feel unwelcome.

One DOES point out what is and isn't proper etiquette on an ETIQUETTE BOARD. It's not proper to tell a bride that she just did something rude to her face when the opinion is not solicited. When an opinion is sought, it IS acceptable to state what the appropriate course of action should have been.

And if course, people will talk among themselves when something is considered offensive. Just check out last Monday's reaction to Miley Cyrus at the VMAs.

My comment was meant to highlight how bullshit the new TOS rules are, a la being warned for the non-violation I quoted just because someone complains.

My guests wouldn't be self absorbed enough to talk about how tacky my wedding was during my wedding, and yes, I DO know this. I guess I was just born with the superpower of actually knowing my close friends and family, WHOA.

Well the primary "issue" would be the hosts of the wedding who have no regard for their guests.

Yes, it is 2013...and a generation of 'I'm the bride, I'll do what I want, it is MY DAY".

If a couple doesn't need things for their home - they should decline a bridal shower and not create any registry. Odds are guests will get the hint and give them cash.

They can then spend that cash however they see fit.

Simple.
