Cannibalism by itself doesn't cause insanity. There are a couple of diseases (similar to Mad Cow disease for people) that can be transmitted by cannibalism, and those do cause insanity- one is called kuru, and I forget the other one. If I'm not mistaken, it's specifically transmitted by eating human brains.
Disclaimer- I am not really weird or scary for knowing this. Do not judge me.
I was going to comment that I don't think cannibalism itself causes insanity, but you would have to be pretty insane to do what they do. And there is no way any circumstance involving cannibalism doesn't cause some significant trauma.
Huh, well I learned something! My internet search was to haste and I believed what I saw on TV a few years back. Thanks for correcting me.
But I agree, they would have to already be in a state of insanity to do that.
I think Bob has a history with the Terminus people beyond what we know, cuz first they knew his name (which could be explained by the reasons some of you already stated) but second, Gareth made a big deal about the fact that Bob was the one they were eating. He called it "cosmic justice" that things "came back around" and Bob ended up captured by them... So what was all that about? And why was Bob crying outside the church?
I also initially thought he'd been bitten in the basement and that's why he was crying, but now I think he knows something, maybe about Father Gabriel?
Father Gabriel has done something. The words scratched into the outside wall of the church? "You'll burn for this" ? And I bet the car that Daryl chased is linked to that church. I mean, it had a big white cross on it. Church Mobile for sure. I think some group has been protecting Father Gabriel and giving him food in exchange for whatever awful thing he's been doing for them. Just my guess.
And PS how could anyone not think the Terminus people were eating humans? Did you not see the human torsos hanging on butcher hooks all over the place?! And all the other stuff, the comments, etc.
I figured they knew Bob's name because they were watching the group and just overheard it.
This. I can see the evidence for him being a former resident of Terminus, but why would he even agree to go back there with Rick's group of people if he knew what they were all about? I could be wrong, but I don't see it.
I don't mind Bob and I think his little thing with Sasha is sweet. My perception was that he had been bitten at the food bank, so I'm pretty bummed about this latest episode.
I feel like Gabriel has some sort of connection to Beth's disappearance. It's obviously bigger than just him keeping her at the church or something, but when I saw the picture of the church lady walker/his significant other at the end of the episode, I was like, "Whoa. This reminds me of someone." So I don't know.
I can't think of a single scene that has disturbed me more than them eating his leg in front of him. O M G... I'm still reeling from it. We were wondering if he'd been bitten before too, which might take care of the problem with the frickin cannibal weirdos.. ugh. Or maybe Morgan will come save them... or something. I wanted badass Rick to know this was happening so he can give the biz to Gareth again. I knew he should have killed him. This show is so good.
Am I the only one sick enough to think of that old joke about the three legged pig? And when the farmer was asked why, he said that the pig had saved the family from a house fire, and when you had a pig that great, you didn't want to eat him all at once?
Maybe they really like Bob. They don't want to eat him all at once.
Who seriously gives a shit about Bob? It always seems like they forced him on us. I was thinking he actually got bit when he went underwater, and was crying in the graveyard about it. I also sort of expected him to off himself because he was bit.
I thought the same thing when Bob wandered off, especially since there was an implied goodbye in the way he kissed Sasha. And knowing what I know of the comics, I'm glad it was Bob, rather than the person it happened to in them. That being said, I like Bob. He's just such a generally likable guy, that I have been pretty sure he was doomed from the start though.
And also as someone who knows the comics, I was sure Beth was with Gabriel - based on the cross on the car. Interested to see who she is actually with now.

I caught this too. I thought he was crying because he was about to betray them.
He said before he was the lone survivor of whatever group he was with - I think he was with the people who took over Terminus the first time, the group Gareth and the butchers revolted against.
melbenso Please keep this for the show spoilers only. PM or start a new topic to discuss comics!!! I stated in the OP that this topic is for the show. Although the show varies from the comics, there are still elements that are the same in which case there are spoilers.
And if you don't mind, could you please remove the comic spoilers from your post so others don't get spoiled? Spoilers are the absolute worst.

Yes, please! My son has read the comics, but is FORBIDDEN to tell me anything about them, because even though the show is different, some elements are the same. If he spoils anything for me, there will be no baking for six months, he has to clean the bathroom for six months, and he has to listen to me bitch for a year. He is very afraid.
@melbenso - Sorry to get you in trouble. I thought it was safe to ask who in the comics actually got eaten since we already knew Bob got eaten in the show and the comic story line wasn't fully followed, and in the after show they said that someone else had gotten eaten in the comics.
And since many of us thought that Bob got bit and that is why he was all upset and crying before he got his leg BBQ'd that now the cannibals have eaten bad human meat.
Nothing melbenso posted really provided any spoilers for anyone who hasn't read the comics. All she mentioned was that Dale was supposed to get eaten and since Dale has been dead for a few seasons now does it matter?
What if someone is reading the comics and is a bit behind. They came into this topic thinking it was safe from comic spoilers, and yet here is a comic spoiler!
It doesn't matter if the spoiler is a big one or not, I asked for this thread to be about the show only, so it would be nice to keep it that way! Like I said, make a comic thread or PM. I would join any of those conversations as well!

It doesn't spoil anything for the show, but it definitely spoiled that arc of the comics for anyone who hasn't read them yet or gotten that far.
So one tiny spoiler has ruined the entire series for someone who may be reading the comics and may read this thread? Okay.
ETA: And if you are reading the comics but also watching the show at the same, I am pretty sure the show will spoil a lot more then this one tiny comment.

Please don't get defensive. I put in the OP (before the edit) that this was for the show only, and the comics should be left out. You and the other chick brought it up, and I asked her very politely to remove it and why and maybe start a different thread or whatever to discuss it.
Nobody said it ruined the series for someone. That's being very dramatic. It's still irritating to go into a thread to talk about X and be spoiled for Y, expecting that Y wouldn't even be talked about.

I am not getting defensive. Sorry for asking a question. I think this is just being taken way to seriously. Sure I get into shows and books and what not but if a spoiler is accidentally spilled I don't let it upset me, because in the end it is a TV show/comic series and I will happily watch what led up to said spoiler and still most likely be shocked at the outcome.
But I know what is coming from what I just said..."but that is you, not everyone feels that way."
So I will keep from commenting on anything about this show from now on in case I innocently ask a question that may lead to outrage from someone who hadn't gotten that far in the show/comic yet.

Nobody said it would ruin the whole series; I said it would ruin that particular story arc about that particular character's demise. If you hadn't seen a single episode of WD yet but I told you that Hershel gets his head chopped off by the governor, you'd have that in your head the whole time. "Don't get attached to Hershel; he's gonna lose his head."
And since there's so much talk about how different the show and comic are, I wouldn't assume that the show spoils the comic, or vice versa. I can read a book after I watch a movie and still enjoy it.
I struggle to believe that after several years, Gabriel has barely ventured out and not had to kill a single walker. I, too, assumed Bob was bitten. And I thought the cannibalism was obvious from the season finale last year.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14
I really doubt he was doing anything more evil than just locking people out because he was too afraid to go outside. I think he could survive that long on canned food and savaging. I also think hes lying about never killing any walkers.
I kind of hoped they had a pastor that was a good guy. Christians can get such negative light in movies and TV.
I honestly think Gabriel has be holed up in the church most of the time. It looked like the windows were barricaded? I'm wondering if he turned away his parish members for help when everything started. It seems weird that no one would have gone to the church for help at some point. Especially in a small town, it seems natural people might turn to a church for sanctuary. Obviously, they weren't allowed entry, which would explain the "You'll burn for this" message.

But how the heck is he so clean? It's been what, 2 years since he should have had running water? That bothers me.
Yes, I agree he probably screwed his congregation over. I wonder if he also has a secret with that girl, though, the one he saw at the food bank who was in the pic.

I think he's been luring people into the sanctuary of his church, and turning them over either to the evil kidnapping/rapist gang, or the Terminus Barbecue gang, in exchange for protection. That car had a cross on it. I doubt that's coincidence.
He definitely had something going on with that girl. I thought he had an affair with her. He looked at that photo SUPER longingly. Could also explain the "you'll burn for this."
I feel like that Gabriel dude thinks the whole zombie thing is from God (like the flood with Noah's ark) to kill all the bad dudes. I also suspect he has been, maybe not directly killing, but letting people die (not helping them) or be taken by Terminus.

@Maggie0829 - Don't worry about it.
