[QUOTE]Disney:  Insanity is insane.  I'm also toying around with picking it up again this fall after I get in the swing of my new school schedule. Jenny:  I've heard that adults can have an easier time of learning to swim because we can be rational and acually trust that the instructor won't let you drown.  Unlike kids that can sometimes let fear control them.  You should do it!

Anna, I've wanted to take lessons for a few years now. My ds won't even consider it, but my dd has her level 7 Red Cross. I started taking her to the pool when she was 5 months old - we did a parent and tot class. Her brother was taking lessons at the same time, and it didn't go well, so i didn't want to force him.

The problem is lesson availablity. When I lived in the city, every pool offered lessons for adults at exactly the same time, and it always conflicted with my classes (I returned to school and got a second degree). Now I'm in a small town, and I'm not even sure that they offer adult lessons. There is a pool and kiddie lessons, but I haven't checked for me yet.

I'd just like to be able to do more than wade in the water when we go to the lake, or if I can ever get my FI to take a tropical vacay (he's a serious winter lover)...

  • If they don't offer adult lessons, post a notice (grocery store bulletin board, college, or whatever) requesting lessons.  You really might luck out and find a former lifeguard or swim team member that would love a little extra spending money.
  • Thanks - I'll have to give that a try! There's a teacher on staff with my FI who might be up for it. She teaches shallow water fitness sometimes, so she might consider taking a private student!

Weight loss/fitness goals: Lose 50 pounds

    Favorite cake flavor: carrot

How long been lurking: months I suppose. I should post more!

Anything interesting about myself: um...I work for the government, was in the military, born in Korea, lived in Japan as well as tons of states, love animals, etc.

Any questions I may have: what percentage of weight loss do you think comes from eating healthier vs. working out? I am of the mindframe that eating right is 90% of weight loss vs. working out at 10%.

  • Leana:  I don't think you're far off.  I tend to say it's 80% food, 20% exercise.  Kinda like eating is the key to weight loss but working out kicks it up and sometimes makes it easier.
  • That makes sense. Also, you don't want to eat foods that are bad for you if you are working so hard on your workouts so I suppose it all goes hand in hand. A piece of cake is not worth an hour running..lol.

Weight loss/fitness goals: loss of 10-15 pounds/whatever it takes to fit in my dress

    Favorite cake flavor: Chocolate!

If you lurk, how long have you: I haven't really lurked.

Anything interesting about yourself: I hate to exercise! Which I am sure most people here hate to do. Also, I am SUPER nosy. Everyone at my work knows me as the "what chaa doing?" girl because that is the questions I constantly ask.

Any question you might have: How to eat healthier... I am very picky with my foods and need to learn to not only try things, but learn how to 'hide' foods that are good for me so that I will eat them.
  • Wedding date: 9/13/13

Weight loss/fitness goals: I want to lose at least 60 lbs.

Favorite cake flavor: Red velvet, which I want to be purple velvet!

If you lurk, how long have you: Nope, I just joined about a week ago and I've never even checked the message boards... this is the first post I opened!

Anything interesting about yourself: I love purple and I love my man! We got engaged at a beautiful gazebo near his house.

Any question you might have: When do you start shopping for a wedding dress if you have a lot of weight to lose before your wedding?!?!?!

  • Sunday:  I have to hide foods from my H but I find he's okay with a lot of them that way.  I add a little bell pepper to eggs (he just thought it was okay but got use to it), I puree peppers, zucchini, and eggplant into tomato sauce (can't even tell), and find that he could handle steamed broccoli and cauliflower with a little ButterBuds cheese powder put on top.  Worth a try!

Purple:  It depends upon the style.  If you're looking for a dress that's very structured, fitted, and has a lot of embellishment, it's probably best to wait until the last possible moment to order.  A seamstress can only alter those type dresses so much.   In my case, I wanted a simple top with a corset.  I could have lost or gained quite a bit and it would have still fit well with minimal seamstress work.  I still had about 5 inches it could have been let out by loosening the laces.

Weight loss/fitness goals: A few pounds. Mostly I want to tone up and get in some cardio! I've just started Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred again - we'll see how long I stick with it this time!

Favorite cake flavor: I like pretty much any kind of cake or cookie. FI calls me a cookie monster. I LOVED a vanilla frosting that used real vanilla beans in it!

If you lurk, how long have you: Just started lurking on this board, but I've been following the boards in general for several months now.

Anything interesting about yourself: Nothing in particular. We live in Iowa and are families are from Indiana and Kentucky, so we are planning long distance!

Any question you might have: Nothing yet :)

  • Hi!

    Wedding date: January 12, 2013

Weight loss/fitness goals: Looking to lose 2 Dress Sizes and exercise more. I would say a number but I don't know what would constitute two dress sizes. I need inches gone and weight.

    Favorite cake flavor: Chocolate!!!

If you lurk, how long have you: Been on TK for a bit now but just started posting on the boards.

Anything interesting about yourself: Hmmm, I can't think of anything interesting at all. Just a bride from FL who is looking to lose some weight. Oh, and I recently joined MFP and hope that it can help me track calories and keep my emotional eating to a minimum.

Any question you might have: Does anyone have any advice on how to get myself organized with food/snacks for the week when I have a very busy work schedule?

    Thanks!

  • macjam:  What I do is portion out all my basic snacks on Sunday night.  i found some 1 C size gladware that's cheap and stackable and then I fill them all for quick grab snacks.  Pudding, cut up fruit, sugar free jello, cottage cheese, meat and cheese cubes all set in the fridge.  Popcorn, mixed nuts, jerky, and fruit snacks all set on the counter.  Perfect for grab and go.  it only takes about 30 minutes to prep it all for the week.
  • Soup:  Hi!  i too was a steak kinfe user for years.  it's what my grandma gave me to use because yeah, I probably would have taken a finger off trying to use a fillet knife at that age ;)
Luckily, when I have a child we've got things like this now available:

if you're looking for food inspiration (and what cook isn't?) you should check out my pinterest's healthy food board.  I've found a lot of new ones lately (like a delish cassoulet I did yesterday) that are very easy to alter to individual tastes.  In that one I subbed tomato sauce for the diced, did the veg through a mandolin instead of chunks,  and used ground sausage to make it a bit more chili like.

  • Hi all!  My name is Tami and I'm currently planning our wedding for 2013.  I  look forward to reading your posts!

Favorite cake flavor:  I love pumpkin spice.  A lot.  Maybe too much ;-)

If you lurk, how long have you:  I've been on the knot since my best friend's wedding a few years back.  I've been lurking more in the last month since I got engaged.

Anything interesting about yourself:  I am very tall - over 6 feet!

Favorite cake flavor: Haven't started tasting yet.....but I know I'm not a huge chocolate fan

Anything interesting about yourself: I am a full time nursing student, part time medical assistant picking up as many hours as I can to fund my wedding, and planning my Michigan wedding from New York :) And I have a pseudo-child french bulldog named Diesel :)

Any question you might have:  Best tips for "even" weight loss (ie, I don't want to lose only in certain areas) and good arm workouts-gotta have nice arms if I'm gonna manage a strapless dress :)

    Thanks,
    Ashley

Weight loss/fitness goals: I weigh 180 lbs (baby's 2 years old and I still haven't lost the pregnancy pounds) I would like to be 130 lbs or so but tighter flatter stomache would make me happy, as well as being fit and healthy.

    Favorite cake flavor: Vanilla

Anything interesting about yourself: Motherhood is my life, my family makes me the happiest I've ever been.

Any question you might have: I am having such a hard time sticking to anything. I get really busy and I end up not going to the gym for a week, or late at night I'll have a snack when I know I shouldn't. :( I'm trying so hard but it seems as if I can't be trying that hard if I keep giving into these cravings.

My weight goal is to lose 70 to 100 lbs
    Favorite cake flavor is almond
I'm just trying to figure out the right way to go about the wedding. This is my 2nd for me and 3rd for him. He's been divorced from his 2nd one for 15 years now. We want to make this the most memorable day for us, but not sure what we should and should not be doing since we've both been married before.
  • Wedding date: it was 8/22/2014 but we just bumped up our date to 9/21/2013 wich is our three year anniversary
Weight loss/fitness goals: I would ideally like to be in the 140s which is like super model for my body type. But I'd be thrilled to just get out of the 200s club!! which is 30lbs! I just want to feel gorgeous even though I know that even as a BBW my FI loves me.
Favorite cake flavor: not a huge cake fan but i love me some cheesecake!!

It has been a long time but i want to keep slim for my wedding.  Could someone tell me how to loss my weight??
  • Hi Guys, Time to introduce myself!
    Wedding date: August 24th, 2013

Weight loss/fitness goals: Initially I would like to lose 30 pounds, than re-evaluate! I had a baby 7 years ago and had lost all of my baby weight.  Since than I have gained it all back.  My initial goal is to get down to 140, than see how I feel and make future goals from there.  I have a wedding dress that I bought and fell in love with 6 years ago.....I had it altered, but never wore the dress.  It of course no longer fits me.  I have contacted a seamstress and she basically told me that I have from now until March to lose as much weight as I can and we will than do a fitting and most likely turn my dress into a corset back to allow it to fit.  I haven't worked out in a LONG time due to anxiety so this will be a big challenge for me.

    Favorite cake flavor: Vanilla cake!

If you lurk, how long have you: I just joined!

Anything interesting about yourself: I have suffered from Anxiety and panic attacks for about 15 years, and am just not starting to gain control over them and getting my life back!

Any question you might have:  I have a lot of questions because I am pretty clueless.  Before having my son and having anxiety I had never had to worry about weight before so I never worked out....so I am starting from scratch and tring to figure out the bascis of how to "get started".

I look forward to my challenge!
    Nikki

Weightloss/Fitness goal: to get back into shape. Have been an active triathlete/runner, but the last few months I've been enjoying too much spending time with my FI, relaxing, eating out, celebrating, etc. and have fallen off the bandwagon. Plus, a beach wedding means bikinis. Eek.

Favorite cake flavor: Oh chocolate. No question.
