  • Inside Edition is a fucking joke.

But you know what, if Jose Baez did want to represent Holmes, whothefuck cares.  Holmes does need an attorney.  I doubt he has much of a prayer of getting off with all the evidence stacked against him.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Afternoon Thread : I kind of have an interest in serial killers... which sounds weirder than I think it actually is, lol.  I am interested from a sort of detective-ish angle.  I'd love to work a case.  I've spent a lot of time online reading about very prolific serial killers - Bundy, Gein, Dahmer, the Green River Killer, etc. The most horrifying website I found?  A website kind of in post-secret format, people posting about their love of these guys, and about writing killers letters in prison.  Fantasies about them. I am not sure what is more twisted - the actual killing these guys do, or people putting them  up on these fucked up pedestals.

Not weird at all...I have the same interest. Not the fantasies, but the study of serial killers.

It is.  Which is why they are interviewing an attorney who has no involvement in the case about the case for their "in-depth" reporting.

Yeah I mean... they caught the guy red handed, his apartment was rigged to blow and he sent mail to the University days before detailing what he was going to do.  How much more credit for this thing does this guy want?

I don't much care what happens to this guy - whether he's locked up in solitary forever, or he gets the death penalty - dude is fucked, and that's fine with me.  I have faith in the system sometimes, and this is definitely one of those times.

  • I'm late to the party, but I had a work event to go to.

I loved the Kardashians until the Kim-Kris marriage debacle.  Kris Humphries may be as dumb as a doorknob, but he is good lookin. And I find it offensive that Kim and Kanye are out there like that when she is still married.

I love mixing Chick-Fil-A sauce and their BBQ when I eat my waffle fries.  Mmm. Waffle fries.

I love True Crime stories.  One of the best sort-of true crime books I ever read was the one by Laci Peterson's mom about her life and the events surrounding her death.  Definite tear-jerker and not totally a true crime book, but it is a really good read.

The way I understand the insanity defense is that you have to NOT understand that your actions have consequences ( i.e. shooting someone can kill them).  He may not be able to stand trial immediately, but I am pretty sure that once he is treated he can stand trial... Lawyers, of course, would understand this better than me.  I cannot see how someone who planned this meticulously can be considered insane. He's just a sociopath.

To claim mental disease or defect in court you have to prove that your mental state at the time was such that you did not realize what you were doing, or if you did realize it, that you did not realize what you did was wrong.

Thanks for the clarification.  You stated it much better than i ever could.  So does this mean that the Aurora murderer has a slim chance of being able to claim insanity?

  • I loved criminal minds when it came out. The fischer king episodes were so interesting. I think it's creepy, the fascination people have with serial killers (but I'm one of them). It's like a morbid curiousity.
  • Junie, it would be hard to say as an outsider but they would probably have to look at his recent history of mental health. From what I see on the news, it sounds like he has had a healthy mental state and was living a stable life in school and otherwise, besides the dropping out of school. There was that guy that went for a beer with him a few days prior and said he seemed totally fine. It would seem to be an uphill battle for the defense and the burden of proof they need. But who knows?

Yeah anything can happen ... Looking from the outside in it's hard to say.  I personally hoep he can't use that defense and the trial puts him exactly where he belongs.
