Thursday Evening

Hi all

I just went to my yoga class...only to find out that it had been moved to an hour earlier today.  That made me cranky.  This is what I get for taking a 4$ yoga class at the town fitness center instead of paying more at a fancy pants place.

Re: Thursday Evening

  • Drink an extra one for me. I could use one too.
  • $4 is a hell of a good price. Yoga is really expensive. I used to do bikram, but it just got to be a lot of money. Then again, I just had breakfast for dinner. Spending money on healthy habits might not be a terrible idea. I could pay for bikram without having to adjust my budget at all if I switched my cigarette money to yoga money.
  • I only tried yoga one time and I hated it. It was at the Y and I went to the class for beginners which I thought was the smart thing to do. I showed up and realized that beginner = seniors. They made us use chairs so we wouldn't fall. It was awkward. Obviously the reason I hated it was not necessarily tied to yoga itself.

  • Exactly, Rach. I quit a few months ago. And I did really well for a few months. Then my inlaws visited. I cried and texted Eagles, who supported my decision to smoke in lieu of murdering someone. Zomg. I just talked about texting. Oh. No. But I seriously need to quit again.
  • Well, i ate macaroni and cheese right before (attempting to do) yoga, so clearly i'm taking baby steps on the healthy habits.

and yeah, 4 bucks is a crazy good price.  Which is why I put up with the location!
  • Evening all!
I'm doing some homework before grabbing a couple of drinks with a friend. Speaking of yoga/gyms, I'm going to the gym for the first time since getting engaged tomorrow! I figure it's about time to start getting into wedding day shape.

I kinda like the classes with less than perfect folks in it. I used to avoid one time slot because there was a super yoga girl that went at that time. Her body was sick and her form was perfect. If I'm going to fancy stretch for an hour and a half in a hundred and five degree room, I've got enough going on. I don't need super yoga girl reminding me that I suck at it, too.
  • Truth Mel.

There was this serene biitch behind me last week just holding her poses without shaking and being an evil hoar.  I hated her guts.
  • My favorite part of yoga is the very end. When you just lay there and breathe. I always nail that part.
  • I've never taken a yoga class, but when the yoga mat people in my neighborhood walk out into the crosswalk without looking, I want to run them over.

  • I'm annoyed, and there is no alcohol in the house so I can't have a drink because I'm too annoyed to go to the store to buy anything. I suck at life today.

Clearly, I've had a bad day today and am so incredibly happy tomorrow is Friday.

  • There's several of those in my class, Chrissy.  But I'm better at plow pose than all of them, so that soothes my ego a bit.
  • I was just disappointed and felt like the should have labeled it as seniors or something else. I didn't think beginner would be utilizing a chair the whole time. I thought it would be with the easier stretches/activities.

But yah, I didn't want to go with super yoga girls so the beginner sounded like a good option. I don't remember there being many other than beginner or intermediate.

  • That is sad, Petal.  I wouldn't have expected it to be a Senior class unless labeled as such either.
  • Hi all! I'm actually sitting for the first time since about 8 this morning. Loving my internship, but it's definitely keeping me busy. We're having chicken nachos for supper. Not super healthy, but pretty darn tasty. Mel, I'm a secret drinker when MIL comes to visit.
  • I like to just buy/rent yoga dvds or use the ones on Netflix and then do my yoga at home just to avoid the girls who are perfect at it in the classes. If I'm going to fall over during the triangle pose then I don't want anyone to see it.
  • I wanted to start taking this yoga ballet fusion class I saw being offered, but I need to scope it out first. My self esteem can't handle a class where people know wtf they're doing. Like what Chrissy just said? I don't know what that meant. If someone said that to me in a class I'd want to cry because I'd assume I was being made fun of for doing the dog thing wrong.
  • I can't handle doing videos.  I need to have that serene biitch behind me doing everything perfectly to push me.  If there's no one around, i won't get embarrased into working harder.
  • Late afternoon everyone! I'm still at work.

My boxing/ kickboxing class is at a smaller gym and its inexpensive as hell. I love it!

I like having the perfect girls in my class. I can learn better technique from them and it motivates me to push myself.
To me its like being at the gym and someone comes up to the treadmill next to you. You cant quit until they do. KWIM?

  • I do not yoga.

I lift weights though. Had a banging ass workout tonight.

You yoga freaks should read this

Don't let your ego get ahead of your abilities!!

  • That would probably make me fart. Perhaps videos are the way to go for me.
  • I keep thinking I want to try yoga, but there is pretty much only one studio that offers it here, and the only time I can go is the 5:30am class. Yeah, no thanks.

Hi ladies. I do yoga but usually just at home because I hated paying $15 a class at least twice a week and I always felt like I looked like an idiot because I wasn't nearly as good as most of the other people.

[QUOTE]Also, Mel, try the yoga/ballet fushion.  That is what my Barre 3 class is.  It is awesome.  Ours has a foundations class that technically isn't the beginner class, but it basically is.

My biggest problem is I don't have a lot of stickwithit in me. I'll go to a month of a ballet class and be like "oh. I don't look like Natalie Portman yet. I quit." I'm not very good with long term goals. It seems like something I would enjoy once I became good at it. But dealing with getting good isn't one of stronger traits. I'm kind of a quitter.

Ballet is definitely something that requires patience to get good at. It takes a lot of discipline so I can see why it would be frustrating.

    And Hiiiiii everyone.

  • The favorite workout class I've ever taken was belly dancing. I loved it. It was so much fun and you didn't feel like it was a difficult workout until the next day. Every time I would breathe my abs would ache. It was at a community center and was pretty inexpensive. I wish I still lived there.

  • J got really frustrated when he did the Yoga X dvd of P90X with me. I wouldn't be able to do downward dog w/ heels touching and all that if it weren't for 20 years of dancing though, so I don't like that he felt bad.

  • I read about everyone working out and being all active. I just don't have the motivation lately. Stupid job draining me of motivation, and then feeling like crap because I don't do anything.

I do miss dancing though. If there was a  place to take an adult class here, I would totally do it.

  • Where is yoga 4$ a class?  I know at the Y here it is 5 for non members, and free for fitness members.  I've never tried it.

    Sorry to barge in
  • Petal, I've always wanted to take a belly dancing class. My university offers class to the students but those ones always fill up before I hear about them. I bet it makes your abs look fantastic!
