It was to get things moving.  I'm bored.

I also posted my opinion, however "weak" it is, because I hate it when people start a post asking an opinion but then don't state theirs until they see what's popular.
In Response to Re: Mosque in NYC : <strong>You are actually wrong on this it IS a religous war.  I'm NOT saying all Muslims agree with it, in fact I would say 99.999% do not.</strong>  But Osama was the one who claimed this was a religious act, there has been a holy war going on for decades now.  So to say that religion had nothing to do with it is ignorant, however I DO NOT believe that the people of this mosque have anything at all to do with these extremist and I do believe they have the right to build wherever the hell they want.  I just think that being in their position for the sake of public relations I wouldn't have chosen to build it that close.
    Posted by jnic0319
You're sure as hell right, they don't agree with it. Because what Osama has done is OUTSIDE the tenets of Islam. He does not have the authority that the Quran states he needs to either issue a fatwah or call for jihad. He's justified the killing of Muslims in the 9/11 attacks and others by saying that those Muslims have fallen from the true path by living in Western society. The guy's not even truly a religious extremist. He's just full of hate, and has perverted words of faith to recruit others to his cause.
In Response to Re: Mosque in NYC : Oh!  Well that makes it totally okay then!  We're already asshats to many people, so we may as well just go all the way!! WOOOOO!! What the fuuck?  I'm ashamed of you and the people you represent.  Honestly, the US was on a huge upswing around the world with the election of Obama, and while there are some people who will always think that the US is bad about some things, you know the most common questions I get? <strong> "Is everyone fat?"  "Have you ever shot a gun?" "Have you ever owned a gun?"</strong>  No one thinks of the US as the land of racism because pretty much all European nations give us a run for our money on that topic.
    Posted by AmoroAgain
To be fair, perhaps that's because you're from Michigan. Just kidding.

I know, when I watch BBC America and some hosts say something like, "Oh, you can't be American, you're no where near fat enough!" I get sort of embarassed. I went to the UK last year and was sort of embarassed to be representing my country as a fat chick.

I was in Germany right before Obama visited during his presidential campaign, and everyone was really excited about it. They loved him.

From my very limited experience and research, Europe is also quite classist. Even more so than racist. And of course, no country has a Bill of Rights like ours. Some countries have the same or similar freedoms, but not nearly all.

I actually think it's a testament to how great the US is for them to be "allowed" to build that mosque. it's like, yeah, so extremist dickholes did something awful to us, but we're not going to let it change us or the freedoms we hold dear.

Freedom of Religion. I really hope the mosque is beautiful and can be a place to also be a safe haven to gain knowledge about Muslim culture and faith.

It had to be known that the location chosen would cause a stir. It should not have become a political debate though an there should not be anyone political or otherwise that should be able to stop the construction on this project.
