Well, if you want to go that way, then according to the paranoid websites I've been reading, y'all were attacked by your own government as an excuse to go to war in Iraq.

    SOooooooooooo the Muslims are fine.

Actually, they would be anyway since in the US y'all separate religion from your government, yes?

  • I also think 9/11 attacks were an act of war. Being only 20 min from it all, it still leaves an impression on me. That day was horrible. Finding out a fireman I knew died there was horrible. I knew many customers from where I worked who died or their family members died or they were there when it happened. I don't think the mosque should be built there. But that is just me. Yes it would show our strength that we can get past what SOME people did and not their entire religion but I still feel that way.

A while back I went to Japan for vacation. We had Hiroshima on our schedule. As an American,  I was sweating bullets, ready to be given dirty looks and be blamed for the nuclear bomb.

You know what? It ended up being one of the most memorable moments of my life.  The Japanese people couldn't stop coming up to us, welcoming us, asking us about our history, sharing their stories about the day the bomb dropped. At every momument in that town you see tributes from AMERICANS and other countries involved in the Allied effort, sharing in the tragedy of that event. It is a city dedicated to peace and love.

Well, Franz Ferdinand was an extremist, but the Luisitania was sunk by... wait for it... a German war ship!

Edit: Gavrilo Princip was involved in the Bosnian independence movement. Clearly a radical branch. (And on a side note, I've been in the cell he was imprisoned in. It's outside of Prague. It's actually at a military prison that was turned into a concentration camp. How's that for history!)

What about freedom?  Because honestly, killing freedom and freedom of religion is a much bigger casualty of this entire thing.  Funny thing, that's what those extremists wanted.

So you admit that this was an attack by a small group of people, not sanctioned by their government, nor the other 99% of their religion, yet you think it was an actt of war and we should punish the majority of them by not allowing them to worship in a building they already own?

Again, it's not fair for every NYer to claim 9/11 as their own. A girl in my high school (in OH) had an uncle at the WTC that day who died. It wasn't all NYers that were hurt or killed. Let's not forget about those people that took down the plane in Pennsylvania to prevent it from flying into another US landmark, or about those that were killed at the Pentagon. 9/11 wasn't only about NY it was about AMERICA!

  • For those of you who do not want it built- I don't see how you can say you don't want it built without acting as if the entire Muslim faith community it to blame. If you don't blame the Muslim faith, then why don't you want it built?

The building itself in no way condones what was done.
