Thanks Jen :)

OWN, I think so many people take being PC to extremes. It seems like it's becoming more popular to be offended by something. I see so many people that have to pick apart everything to find a way to turn it into something that offends them.
A quick example, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or any other religious holiday phrase.  I'm not Jewish, but it wouldn't bother me bit for someone to say "Happy Hanukkah" to me. It's a sincere well wishing to someone, it's not a phrase that people use to express hate towards someone.  The same with Merry Christmas, if I said that to some one who is not Christian, it was said as a well wishing, not an attack on their religion or beliefs.  I just hate to see people that NEED to be offended, and I hate that the media is catering to those people.  I hope I explained that well enough, it's hard to sum it up.

ETA: I must have deleted this line somewhere...I have a problem with the people who get offended by something and think it should be outlawed for everyone else.  At what point do we back off before everything we do can be considered offensive?

  • Blanket statements about pits make me sad. Especially when you've all been attacked by other dogs. Pit bulls can be amazing family dogs if raised right.

AATB- Have you considered a mini schnauzer? They are small-medium and are not yippy or too hyper.

  • I'm with LC on the dog argument. Mostly because all dogs can be aggressive, but I'm fairly certain no one ever died from a pomeranian attack. Also, most breeds bite or snap once, but some breeds attack and go for the kill. Even if a pit never snaps, he has the potential to not bite just once, but to go in for blood.

Animals are innately agressive. All the training in the world won't stop that. It's survival for them. Their play is practice for protecting or getting food, as it has been for millions of years. It's the difference between being a cat trainer and a tiger trainer. If the cat still attacks, I think you'll be ok.

I don't judge anyone for keeping rotts or pits, but I don't want to be around them and I don't want my kids around them at all.
I am thinking of using the words "obey" and "till death do us part" in my vows, but know that it will blow some people away.  I don't feel submissive to my FI, but I feel I can say it, and mean it.
    Posted by arv266
I would not do "obey" but we did "through this life and into the next" in our self-written vows. I maintain marriage is about life-or eternity not "as long as we both shall love". Oh, go shack up forever and save yourself the expense of a wedding! That's what I want to say when i hear that.

yes, marriages end in divorce all the time, but if you are essentially planning your out, that is NOT a commitment in my opinion.
  • I would rather be happy with what I am doing than make a ton of money

I like having my FI order my meals for me when we go out, and have no problem with him taking the reigns when it comes to decisions that aren't important to me.

I used to love cats I've grown up owning them, until I moved into FI's parents house (loooong story for another time) and his one cat used to pee on the counter because the 2 male cats wouldn't let her use the litter box. They got another box and put it in the bathroom and she sits on the edge of it and pees all over the floor! It's disgusting and I refuse to clean it up so it's become a constant battle at the house. I can't wait for April when we finally move out and absolutely no cats!!!!

AGREED! The whole "victim" mentality is so irritating.

Do you know they have non-scoring little league sports now? So that kids won't get their feelings hurt by winning or losing a game? Seriously? Those kids are going to have a hell of a time dealing with everything that life throws at them, if they have no experience dealing with failure or disappointment.

He had cats when we first met, that he inherited from his best friend, but they have now been sent back to their original owner. When we bought our condo, I refused to have is smelling like litter or have cat hair on my new furniture. I can't even stand the smell of fresh litter. It makes me gag.  FI's mom lives with about 5 cats and never cleans up after them. Imagine Hoarders but without all the stuff. Both H and I are heardcore, deepdown cat people and neither one of us would have made a lifepartner-or even a relationship with a cat hater. Definite deal breaker. However, our two are kept as clean as all get-out. People walk into the house and are surprised we have cats.

This must be one of those everyone has their own experience things, because my old neighbor has 4 mini schnauzers and they are the most hyper, and irritating dogs that I've ever known of.

He's had them for about 11 years now and no matter what, if we were out in our yard and they came outside they'd run to the fence that seperates the yards and bark. And bark. And bark. And bark. And bark. Do you know what they did after that? Barked some more, haha.

Eh, I don't know. Maybe there's some quiet, really well behaved mini schnauzers out there, but I've never wanted to upper cut a dog before until I met them.

    That is just ridiculous.

And I agree about the whole society-catering-to-butt-hurt-people atrocity. I can't stand not being able to celebrate my holidays in an open way because I work for the government. We can't even have a Christmas party, and if we want to have a Holiday party, then we can't decorate it in a traditionally Christmas way. It's absurd.

  • I don't mind them switching positions when they're young like that.  I think it gives them a chance to know which positions they play well in and which they don't like.

But no scoring?  That's lame.  I don't think it spares feelings - it just creates a really neutral, who-cares type of atmosphere.

It makes me wonder what's next, you know? Pretty soon we'll have uncoordinated cheerleaders, gymnasts who are too afraid to do the balance beam, and QB's who pass the ball to the offensive left tackle instead of the wide receiver.

People had this same attitude when I was in grad school. It's frightening. They'd sit in class with their laptops, on facebook or IM the whole time, then get super whiny and pissed when they didn't do well on a test. They'd sit there and argue with the professor about the way he explained something during class and say that's why they got the question wrong. Meanwhile, he practically copied the questions and answers, verbatim, from the textbook.

Um...WTF. You're 22+ years old! Read the chapters and take some initiative to learn it yourself. It's fvcking graduate school!
