I'm trying to get some ideas for cake flavors & fillings to give to the person making my cake. She said I could give her about 5 different flavors for our cake testing. My wedding will be in October at a country club. FI and I aren't really cake people so I'm trying to figure out what others like. I'll probably have a 4 tier and was thinking about doing different flavors for each tier -- or maybe just 2 flavors and alternate tiers.

Middle tier: half chocolate and half vanilla cake (half layer of each) and truffle filling
Top tier: either white cake with vanilla custard and burnt almond crunch filling or lemon cake with raspberry creme
1) Chocolate cake with mocha mousse.
2) Vanilla with raspberry
3) Red velvet with cream cheese
4) Our tier - also red velvet
Groom's cake: Chocolate with peanut butter frosting.
Nothing too exotic, but I think a nice mix and a good portion of chocolate!
I just went to my first cake tasting two weeks ago and I had the most amazing cake that was apple with buttercream icing. Amazing. Taskted like apple pie in a cake! Unfortunately other than the tasting the meeting was a disaster so we won't be using that cake baker!
1. Mocha cake with heath toffee buttercream filling
2. Spice cake with pumpkin cream cheese mousse.
The groom's cake is going to be chocolate and vanilla with cookies and cream buttercream filling.
2. chocolate w/ chocolate filling
3. lemon rosemerry w/ lemon frosting (amazing!)
4. carrot cake w/ cream cheese filling
I love strawberries and pairing them up with a chocolate cake tastes just like eating chocolate covered strawberries.
We originally wanted more than one flavour - but our baker said since the cake will be served as dessert it should be all one flavour so there is nobody requesting specific cake and no frustrated servers!
(We're also having a red velvet with cream cheese groom's cake)
A good friend and wonderful cake baker is doing our October wedding cake pro-bono so I took it easy on her. 4 layers - alternating chocolate and lemon with a buttercream frosting.
Looks to me like there are too many answers to this question and you should just pick a few and run with it.
Good luck!
We are having a 3-layer cake from a local bakery (Amphora's in Herndon, VA). Top tier and bottom tier: Chocolate cake with milk chocolate mousse filling, middle tier: white cake with white chocolate mousse filling. had a tiny version of these same flavors in my birthday cake (also from Amphora), and it was so amazing, we decided these would be the best flavors for the wedding cake as well.
I would say that unless ALL of your wedding guests are Foodies and like to try new and crazy flavors, at least have one more "normal" option that everyone will like, so everyone can at least say they tried the cake.
Although I think mango and papya mouse filling in a cake would be divine, it may not be everyone's cup of tea.
Brandy Buttermilk Cake with Italian Cherries, filled with Pistachio pastry cream and frosted with a traditional buttercream. Our baker created this flavor for us based on a breadpudding dessert we had that we loved. It is fantastic!!!
