I know you're joking (?) but I'm in favor of extending marriage to anyone who can legally sign a marriage contract. Which means people wouldn't be able to marry animals, inanimate objects, or children. But multiple people could marry each other and they would be able to marry a person of any sex or gender as well.
L-Bride - I totally get what you're saying. My FI's salary is more than mine will ever be, that's for sure. The only thing that strikes me as wrong is that it's kind of unfair for one person to work full time because... hey, maybe he doesn't want to. NOT saying your FI doesn't want to, but if I made a lot of money and FI wanted to stay at home just to persue more "fun" activities than working, I might want some kind of compromise, like both of us working part time.
    Posted by msmerymac
Actually, it makes less sense to have two people working part time. The biggest disadvantage comes in benefits. Most part time jobs do not include benefits. Also, part time jobs in many fields are difficult to come by. Typically around here, part time jobs mean unskilled jobs unless you're already working at a company that is willing to let you do what you do part time and even then it's not always advantageous.

Those people are nucking futs. But seriously, most of those people have a history of abuse. My very limited psychology knowledge leads me to believe that they fall in love with inanimate objects, i.e. things that can't talk back, hit back, whatever.

Ugh. I got to listen to someone go off on a rant yesterday about interracial marriage. I'm pretty sure she's also staunchly anti-gay. It makes me want to beat my head against the wall, but at the same time I keep reminding myself that she has very limited world experience and is hard set in a religious upbringing that resulted in these views. It still makes me sad.
around here, people make too big a deal out of firefighters. every time something happens, the fire truck shows up, just so they can say "Hey, city counsel, we went on X amount of calls this year, how bout some more money?" a guy I know was sitting on a tailgate and fell off and bumped his head pretty hard on the pavement, and the firetruck came. I shiit you not.
    Posted by laladypoet
they have to come..believe me my fiance doesnt want to go on runs for some goofball bonking his head or chopping his finger off or trying to kill himself. and the city counsel gives them very little money....but it could be different where you live. i do think it is silly though...silly and a waste of time/fuel
  • The whole fire fighter debate is interesting. Many people think they're paid too much money but I would have to disagree. How I see it is if you can see a burning building and actually GO into it (I don't care what gear they give them) that is heroic and absolutely insane. You couldn't pay my 1 million dollars to walk into a burning building. So if they only have one bad fire a year, who cares? Imagine walking into a dangerous fire 1 day a year and it's your job to put it out. No thank you.
It seems like if you ARE a SAHWhatever, you have to justify it by saying "Oh, well, I do all the cooking and all the cleaning and I also volunteer and I work out all the time and this and that and this and that." Eff that noise. There was a thread months ago where someone said something along the lines of, "I'd only be okay with someone being a SAHW if they did all the cooking and cleaning, volunteered, were always PERFECTLY put together and in amazing shape because there would be no excuse not to be." Right. Because people need to justify their life choices. It's like overweight women who feel like they need to be embarrassed or apologize for ordering from a fast food restaurant. Bulllllshiiiiiit. I don't have to do or not do ANY specific thing to make it "okay" for me to be at home while my fiance works. ANYTHING. Oh, also, I don't think it's cute when threads derail into ridiculous silliness. That's my other unpopular opinion.
    Posted by temerityjane
they justify it because of people (like me) who think if you are a SAHwhatever and don't do housework or take care of the kids, you're pretty worthless.
