AYG - Confessions - I Judge

Re: AYG - Confessions - I Judge

  • Yes as in July 16 2011. I honestly have to say that the secretary has to know the other people she added in. My sister found out yesterday when she was setting up her appointment with the priest to take in her witnesses. He told her I don't have you at the time i have a Quinceañera. I honestly thought she was going to faint.

We are waiting to hear back from them to see what they are going to do. The Quinceañera have put a deposit down for the same time as my sister. They are trying to figure out who will get the 12pm slot and who will have their mass done later on in the day.
  • My parents live in a different state, and to get to them, I must cross a bridge.  This bridge has a toll.  For a period of three months or so, everytime I went through the toll and stopped to pay, the kindly attendant simply waved me through.  I started to think I was hot shiit.  I began to brag.  I told my parents ALL about it.  It became the first topic of conversation whenever I walked through their door- Hey, Mel, did you pay a toll today?  After several months of this, my mother and I went shopping together across state lines one day.  When crossing back over into her state, I looked at her in my passenger seat and said "Watch and learn, lady."  The attendant, as expected, waved me through.  I said "thank you," and he responded with "For what?  Your EZPass registered."

My ex-husband's ezpass was in the center console.

This seems like a relevant story right now.
Also, I judge young women (and old ones for that matter) who have the following hairstyle: especially when the ponytail is less than 3 inches long and sticks out of the back of your head. It may look all pretty from the front with a headband, but it looks like a rats nest from the back from all the teasing. ANd if the pony is short, it looks like you forgot to finish fixing your hair. Seriously, buy another mirror and take a peek back there before you walk out of your house.  Also, it makes your head look misshapen (conehead anyone?), and that's just not pretty on anyone.  FTR. I see young people with this hairstyle all the time, dressed up (in church, job interviews, college tours) and I can't help but want to hand them a mirror and a comb.
    Posted by SarahPLiz
If you do it right, it shouldn't look like a rat's nest in the back.  But most people are lazy.
In Response to Re: AYG - Confessions - I Judge : Right, but you said you were polished when you showed up, not dressed unprofessionally. I get where you're going with this, I just thought it was a wee bit hypocritical to lash out at their hair, etc. when you don't want to be judged by the same criteria. Also, 24 IS young to many companies, so just because someone might not yet be sold on your brand new credentials doesn't necessarily make her an old hag.

Sometimes *I* feel too young to have a real job or be at a job interview and I'm 29. It's like, "whoa! What am I doing here? When did I become an adult? Will people take me seriously or will they realize I'm way too young for this?!"

But I agree that I would judge someone who showed up to a job interview dressed inappropriately. Better to be overdressed for a job interview, for sure.

Fair enough. I just thought your original post smacked of "these two old unkempt ladies were totally jealous of me because of I'm younger and prettier than they are." And you just never know what people are thinking when they see you, especially at a job interview when everything about you is being evaluated. But if you're hyperfocused on appearance, then chances are you'll probably assume others are too.

It folds closed under the armrest, which I always have down for my arm.  And, until then, I thought an EZpass had to be in the window for it to register.  I had taken it down because it was my ex-husband's and it clearly would have been inappropriate for him to have been footing the bill for my tolls.  Apparently he eneded up doing so for a few months, anyway.  My mom hasn't let me live this one down yet.

Hey, I NEVER said I was prettier, just more polished.  Lots of women that are older than me are hotter than I am.  And this was just in the lobby.  The interview went really well when I was evaluated on the rest of me.  I guess I just have a tendency to assume that every aspect of me is being keenly focused upon in interviews, so I notice more about other people as well.  I'm probably in the wrong.

Me too, Mery. I'm 30 but people usually think I'm younger, and to many in my field age = competence so I've had my fair share of having to prove myself. I still feel like a kid at work too!

And I just realized that tata's old hags might have been fellow job candidates, which wasn't clear from her original post. It sounded like they were employees, but if not then that makes a difference.

Wait, I think I missed something.  Your sister booked first, then someone double booked, and the church isn't sure who they're going to give the time slot to? Do they not have a record of your sister booking? Because if they do, how could they justify giving the slot to the Quiceanera?

  • Sometimes I judge Quinceaneras. They're like mini weddings. Sometimes without the mini. They are SUPER over the top. I've had encounters with many "courts" (like the wedding party), usually as they are screaming while riding in hummer limos the girl's dad paid for. Undecided It seems like an excuse to be entitled.

  • I confess that after last night, I kind of feel like a shitty friend. My bff had her first boyfriend ever early this year (like, Jenuary I think) and it didn't end so well. She was really down about the whole thing, for weeks, almost months. So about 2 weeks ago, she met someone else, and she was happy, so I was happy for her. Well I guess they decided to be exclusive and the next day he told her he didn't want a relationship.
I honestly think she moved WAY too fast even after I told her I thought it would be a good idea to take it slow this time around since she moved too fast with the other jerk. So she texts me last night, and I knew she was sad, so we talked about it. I basically told her to stop crying over him, suck it up, and move on. I didn't know what else to say. I just feel like (another confession?) I wasn't even this sad after my MARRIAGE fell apart. And she's crying over a stranger who didn't want a relationship.
So I feel like a shitty friend for feeling that way/saying those things. But honestly, I don't know what else to tell her.

Sorry, that got longer than I expected.

Sara, sometimes, those words need to be heard. And if you feel like you need to, offer an apology, but still give her the same words in a different delivery. I mean, she needs to respect you, as well. Tell her she's worth more than "one nights" or randos etc. and she needs to find someone who will recognize her true value for what it is.
