  • DNA, training for one will help in training for the other.  My husband does tri's and I think a sprint distance is certainly achievable even if you will be doing a 1/2 the following month.

DNA- I won't judge your FI because he is probably a decent guy, but I do judge him telling you that you can't do it. Use that as a motivator to train and show him up. :)

[QUOTE]Soooo I don't know what this is but its bothering me.  I recently ran in a marathon relay 6.5 mile leg.  Now I am really torn I really want to sign up for a Sprint Triathalon (.5 mile swin, 12 mile bike, 3.1mile run) in September but I also really want to run the half marathon in October.  I have found a training schedule for over the summer (I teach so I get summers off) I really want to do both and I think training for one will also help train for the other.  I really think I can do it. My FI told me he doesn't think I can do it.  I am crushed.  My FI runs half marathons regularly and I don't know if he is trying to be realistic or if he feels that I am stealing his thunder. But it kind of hurt my feelings and I am really torn I don't want to choose one or the other.

Um, your FI definitely lost some of my respect by telling you that.

I think you can do anything you set your mind to.  The human body is an incredible machine that can do amazing things.  Don't let him sell yourself short.

I'm hoping that is not the kind of thing he says to you on a daily basis.

Missy, I hear Jennifer Love Hewitt is going to be the new main lady detective. I don't think I'll be watching. Also, she just finished up a story arc last season as a traumatized, reclusive rape victim, so I'm not sure how that's going to translate to her suddenly being an SVU detective. Unless they do that L&O thing where they just re-use actors who appeared in past seasons as victims/perps, like Casey Novak. ETA: If it's a rumor about JLH, then never mind. I hope it is.

Mand, he does sound like a total douchebag. Sorry you have to sit near him. I would have totally said something, so you're a nicer person than I am.

I agree, DNA your FI sounds pretty unsupportive. That's not okay.

You can do both, and you should. Swimming and cycling are great cross training to avoid over use injury in runners. PLENTY of triathletes are also distance runners. In Austin, Tri season goes from March- Sept and running season goes Sept- Feb, and most training programs encompass both. Tell your FI to suck it, and go do it anyway.<div>
</div><div>I did my first tri to spite my ex, because he can't swim, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Just don't practice open water swimming by yourself ;)</div>

  • I have a flame.

I'm pretty sure it was the knottie that's a cop (I forget her SN). Anyway, I was reading a post a few days ago (It may have been the epic post) and she was flaming someone and saying something like "We don't like ..... " (we meaning SB) and it got on my nerves in a don't speak for me kind of way.

I thought to myself "who the fvck are you and why are you speaking on behalf of a board that you just started posting on?"

I also could be extra judgy because I really don't dig her. Too much drama.

  • Thanks all. I haven't told him how I feel about it yet.  I am wondering if he feels like I am stealing his thunder or something since he is signed up for the half marathon I want to run already.

I dont know if he thinks that I don't know how much work its going to be or what.

Normally he is supportive so it took me by suprise.  Its mostly with running, he has been so supportive but lately I think he is underestimating me.  When I told my relay partner I was going to run 11 minute miles he told me he didn't think I could do it.
I ran in 10:50 miles thank you very much.  This such a new thing.

I am planning on telling him how I feel that I really want to do both and that I need him to support me.  I will keep you posted.

See, that would piss me off too. Maybe he thinks that this sort of talk will motivate you. He's wrong. You need to talk to him and tell him that its not very encouraging and you don't appreciate him not having any faith that you can set acheivable goals for yourself. He needs to learn to support you in a way that makes you feel supported. <div>
</div><div>ANd do the tri. Its awesome. And if he gets all pissy because he's not doing tris and you are, then maybe he needs to grow up and learn how to be proud of someone other than himself. </div>

No, you're being the more mature one, not arguing with a 16 year-old and all. ;) I have a hard time confronting as well unless I'm heated about something, which I would be in this case.

  • Confessions:  When Scott woke me up this morning to give me a kiss and say I love you before work (it sounds cute, but my squinty eyed grumbley morning monster impression really really isn't) he said "happy anniversary" and I had no idea WTF he was talking about for a minute there.  It's the 9 year anniversary of our first date and I forgot it last year as well.

Also, I'm annoyed Scott's first group of highschoolers since beginning teaching are graduating tonight because I'm going to my brother's graduation tonight.  I would love to go to both.
  • Scott is pretty awesome.

So, it's not okay to talk about posts we don't like to read? Uh. Really? No. That's just lame. Of course anyone can post what they want. They have every right to. • This is late, but KD- I just meant... I understand being annoyed by BC talk if it's randomly in the middle of a thread. In my opinion, having it identified in the title means you don't have to open it. It's way easier to ignore.  So, if that chit-chat bugs you, you can skip it quite easily.
