I'm bored. After the discussion on Friday night, I think some people expressed an interest in this topic.

Are there things that are (commonly or uncommonly) done at weddings that just aren't your style? I'm not necessarily telling you to target any specific person's wedding, but if you have WR-grievances, air away.

For example, I don't get sports-themed weddings and have no idea why TK has a board dedicated to them. H loves baseball, but (thank God) he would never suggest that we allow his hobby to be the theme.

I don't get the point of bridal portraits to display at the wedding reception.

I don't like "funny" cake toppers like where the bride is on her cell phone or the bride is dragging the unwilling groom.

I don't get the unwilling Bride and Groom topper.

I also don't get the "Wedding cake must be vanilla" Groom's cake is chocolate mindset, I haven't really seen it on here but my grandmother about had a melt down when I said I wanted cake with different layers of white and chocolate and pies/desserts for the "Groom's Cake".

I think almost all wedding dresses are NMS. I don't really like any kind of bling and only a few different kinds of embellishments. I don't like super sparkley jewelry or headpieces either.

I know I am almost for sure in the minority here.

I think wedding party introductions are kind of dumb. Especially when people have to do silly dances as they walk into the reception.

Oh, i also despise "funny" cake toppers that imply the bride is forcing the groom into the wedding. Dragging, ball and chain, etc.

As far as NMS, strapless satin a-line gowns with a train. Clearly, they are lots of people's style because they are hugely popular right now, but definitely not mine.

Also, wearing very casual shoes (flip flops, chucks, etc.) with formal wear is NMS.

Making everything a BIG PRODUCTION. Fancy ways to announce the couple/brdal party, choreographed dance routines, cheesy songs for cake cutting, "exit" songs....it's not a broadway play, not everything has to be a production.

Really long veils and trains are NMS.

Also- really bright colors (ex:hot pink and lime green together) were never an option for me, but they're done a lot so that is probably just me being a 'plain Jane'.

Our cake topper looks completely normal from the front and on the back the bride is pinching the grooms butt. I guess it would fall under the unpopular funny cake toppers but we thought it was cute.

I had to wear flip flops with a nice dress when I was BM, I was not happy if I spend over $100 on a dress I want to be able to get shoes that go with it as well not flip flops.

Also I don't get people being tit for tat, I am an MOH in a wedding next year right now my budget is extremely tight and I told the bride this, that we would play it by ear how much I could afford, she then tells me "Your BM's dresses were $100" yes they were but I didn't pick them out, they did.

I don't get camo at weddings. And plenty of folks around here feel the need to incorporate it somehow.
I also don't get huge 20 person bridal parties. It seems like it must make things way more complicated.

I hate elaborate introductions too. I think everyone knows who the bride and groom are, and if they were at the ceremony, aren't they usually announced then? Why do they need to AW at the reception too?

I am so grateful to never have participated in (or seen) a WP dance.

What else? Oh, I don't get why guests clink their glasses to get the couple to kiss? I find that obnoxious. Thankfully, no one did that at our wedding. I love kissing H, but I'm not kissing him on command of a random second cousin.

Dollar dances, WP dances, shoving cake in each others' faces, casual shoes with formal attire, mermaid gowns

Not that I had much planned for my first intended wedding, but the dress I bought is SO NMS (princessy, lots of tulle). I think I just bought it to make my mom happy.

The whole cake-smooshing bizness

fake flowers and glass beads (though I have seen plenty of lovely centerpieces that were budget friendly)

All-pink or super-girly weddings. First, because I just don't like it, and second, because, silly me, I think you should at least ask your FI's opinion about that.

Photobooths. Cliched.

Candy bars or any other DIY project/favor. Ditto.

WP dances and casual shoes (chucks, flip flops). I wore some flip flops for pictures because we were walking around outside so much (on pavement and grass) and I didn't want to wear my 3.5 inch stillettos, but I had to get 3.5 inch flip flops so my dress wouldn't drag and they were SO UGLY. My dad saw them when I was on my way to go change my shoes and said, "What the hell are those?!"
