"Pedophile" is the word used to describe/diagnose someone who is attracted to children.

And child molesters are not necessarily pedophiles either.  Some child molesters of criminals of opportunity.

  • East :   yes, yes, yes. I was just thinking, if I was a regular over there anymore, there's no way in hell I'd put another photo of myself and J up for people to judge our appearances.  Except for your stance on dogs, I'm growing quite fond of you, Eastie. :)

KPWEDKK:  It is supposedly random (people pulled out of line). However, I have a college friend who looks Middle Eastern (I forgot where he's actually from), and has a fairly normal last name. He says he gets pulled out every.single.time. In college, his last name was Hussein. He's legally had that changed (he's a writer) for many years. I think he was even born here.  The only time my suitcase has been inspected has been the times my mom has sent homemade bread wrapped in tinfoil back in it. I'm sure it's due to the tinfoil.

Loop:  pedophiles are about children, not homosexuality. Just like rape is about control, not sex.

Obviously, they also give their daughters unique counsel as they confront the physical, emotional, and social challenges associated with puberty and adolescence.

Why children need fathers: A father's pheromones influence the biological development of his daughter, that a strong marriage provides a model for girls of what to look for in a man

  • I think the teachers in my county (REPEAT : MY County) are ridiculously overpaid. I'm sorry, but you do not get to be 25, work 40 hours a day, work 203 days a year, get paid $60,000 a year and get to biitch about being underpaid. Oh, you stay late for coaching or work summer school? Yeah you also get paid for those.
My parents are both teachers, and I work at a school, so yes I know what it takes to be a teacher and my opinion still holds.

I think we need to have better definitions of sex offender/pedophile before we start castrating or sterilizing. One of my college friend's bf is listed as a sex offender because he peed outside one drunken night (between midnight and 2am) and a mother driving by with her kid called the cops and said he exposed himself to her child by peeing. His entire life was fvcked because he, like a billion other people, made a stupid drunken error at the age of 21.

Good distinction. I will re-word my idea.

Anyone who actual physically sexually abuses a child should never be allowed freedom again.  Sorry, I just feel that strongly.  I personally do not believe they are ever 'cured."  Even if it's possible, I think they lose all rights when they take advantage of an innocent, defenseless child.  (I should clarify a little, since this is quite vague. Do I think this applies to the 19 year old who has sex with his/her 16 year old bf/gf? Of course not. But any adult who tortures a child like that should be sentenced far more harshly than what they currently allow.)

Pheromones? The only reason we need fathers is pheromones?

Even if that were a decent argument, wouldn't we get enough just by, say, being out in public with men? Failing that, couldn't we just get a pheromone plug-in like they sell for nervous cats? Plug-ins: better than some dads.

As a nerd myself, I'm offended that Loop self-identifies as a nerd and still cites non-scientific propaganda in support of her idiocy.

    image
  • Loop's opinion (although unpopular here) is held by tons and tons of strictly religious people.
Many members of my very Catholic family are against gay marriage and gay adoption based on religious beliefs. It's kind of impossible to argue the religious aspect of this issue.
Loop, do you think that church and state should be seperate?
    image
  • I just want to address this point:

    2) The public health catastrophe among homosexual men.

    from that link.

I firmly believe the "public health catastrophe" (dramatic much?) has much more to do with lack of sex education directed at homosexual practices because of how taboo it is in many areas.  NOT because they're gay and having gay sex.  Seriously.

  • Jesus Tapdancing Christ. Is there any argument supported by fact and not religious blither that would support your point of view, Loop? Because a father being around to give pheromones and to show his daughters what to look for in a man cannot possibly be said aloud with a straight face.

I will agree with Loopy that I believe having both male and female presences is imprtant for a child, because I do think that both sexes bring different things to the table and being shaped by both during childhood is important.  BUT -  with so many other people of both sexes outside the parenalt units that surround and nurture a child during development (aunts, uncles, teachers, clergy, coaches, friends) that is just a RIDICULOUS reason to argue that same sex couples should not be allowed to raise one.

  • If we were back in 1970, Loop's comments may be about bi-racial couples.
Maybe before that it would have been about the woman's right to vote.
It's just the evolution of our society.
Sorry, Loop...i know they are your opinions, but they are sort of antiquated compared to everyone on here (doesn't make them wrong for you)
Anyone can make a good or bad parent.

I lost my mom when i was young, does that mean because i didn't have a mother that i may be missing something?

I use pads.  I like Coach.  And I am a liberal who thinks Obama was not a good choice for our country.

And although I had a credit card at about 18, i think there should be stricter limits on what dollar amounts can be given to people at that age.  Maybe they shouldn't get a $5K limit.  My parents took me to Sears to get my first credit card to "build my credit history"
