    Do it!

And don't GAF about other women being petty and totally irrational.  If you catch ppl throwing shade, smile right back at them and wink, lol.

I mean, I'd describe that as gold. Or blue.
    Well played!!!!

  • Oh and I never wear black to weddings. Or white. Black doesn't bother me on other people but white is a major eye roll.

I mean, yeah, but plenty of brides are wearing more casual white dresses now, and I don't necessarily know that before I go. Just seems like srsly you really couldn't find anything else?
But, like, who cares? Everyone knows who the bride is.
    Amen.

It's just a color.  Everyone could wear white and everyone would still know who the bride is, so why in the hell do other women care if another guest wears white?

We tell brides all the time- "You can't dictate guest attire."  That means color- including white.  That means other guests need to stahp this crap.

Women just need to stop judging other women for this.
@Magicink wore red to her wedding. Should any guest who had the audacity to wear red be side-eyed. Did they get confused as one of the brides?! Oh, probably fucking not since everyone invited should know who is getting married.

Didn't it used to be a thing that everyone wore white to weddings?  Like back when, Queen Victoria was it, started the white bride trend?

Because wasn't the point of wearing white to say,
    image

Well, yes Queen Vic started the white bride trend, and yes the point of the white dress was "I can afford to spend a lot of money on a dress I will never wear again because it's an impractical colour", but guests didn't generally wear white, exactly because it was an impractical colour. Victorian times were dirty and grimy. Mostly people (both the guests AND bride) just wore whatever their "best" clothing was. For many women that meant blue, brown, grey, or even *gasp* black. And a lot of the women who DID spring for the white dress, had it dyed after so that they could wear it again.

Edited because I left out half a sentence.

But also the original purpose of bridesmaids was to wear an identical dress as the bride to confuse evil spirits and thwart bride-nappers.

So for the brides these days who want to be traditional and have super matchy BMs, they SHOULD be buying them all their same wedding dress to wear.

Well, yes, this too. Because we must never step away from tradition, everything must always be exactly the same as it always has been.

  • I've also heard "black is for funerals." I've also heard that wearing red upstages the bride? Who comes up with these things? Though, I guess now I know why that one girl in "Moms and Maids" was having a stroke over her MOH's red lipstick.

I fucking love sparkles. I need to figure out how to wear more sparkle clothes to work.
  • I wear bright colors to funerals.  I am sure I have had many people think that I was being rude or offensive by my hot pink heels.

I often wear black because light neutrals are out and color is really hard for me. I can easily pass into clown territory with my red hair. I'll wear heels and usually rights because I'm tall and dresses are often a tad short on me.

I always wear a cocktail dress. I've never been to a more casual wedding or a black tie wedding.

Cliffs notes: SHE WANTS TO WEAR RED LIPSTICK WITH A YELLOW DRESS! CRISIS! AHHHHH! STOP LIGHT!
Also their mutual guy friends think her friend is the hotter one but SHE TOTALLY DOESN'T CARE.
And she knows what looks better on her MOH then her MOH does.

GOOD GRIEF. I cannot handle this nonsense. Why do you care what other people are wearing??

    Real life conversation:
FI: Do you want the groomsmen to wear specific shoes?
    Me: Brown shoes.
    FI: But they won't match?
    Me: DO NOT CARE.
    FI: Are you sure?
Me: The day I start caring about other people's shoes smack me upside the head because I have lost my damn mind.

Wait, but you do care that they're all brown though. So consider yourself smacked by your own standards here :)

HA touche. I guess my point was more than if someone shows up in a different shade of brown, or god-forbid, black, I won't flip my shit. It's not something worth getting worked up about.

FI picked out burgundy shoes to wear with a gray suit and a pink shirt, and he's super excited about them (they're really awesome shoes). We told the GMs to wear whatever shoes they have. One guy, I already know, is wearing brown, and at least 1 guy is wearing black. Another guy keeps asking me what shoes to wear because he's worried he'll wear the wrong thing, and I finally said "wear neon green sneakers if it makes you happy. I don't care!"

Like really guys, no offense but I give 0 fucks about what's on your feet!

A GM asked me if he should shave the beard he's had for YEARS. I almost wanted to (jokingly) say yes just to fuck with him. No-- of course I don't care about your facial hair! Your beard, your business! Good grief.

People are just so used to brides being particular about what others wear that they cannot grasp it if you do not care. My FMIL has asked several times what she should wear, what length dress, and what my mother is wearing. I am not the clothing police so I do not know what my mother is going to wear.

I have resorted to telling guests they can wear anything they want as long as they would be allowed to enter a casual eatery, in other words, you must wear shoes and your naughty bits must be covered. We asked the GMs to wear a dark suit, any color and are going to provide them with ties and pocket squares in purple. That's the most matching I am willing to orchestrate. For the BMs it's purple. Just any color purple outfit they want.

ugh, don't get me started on that.

We told H's brothers to wear grey suits, white shirts. Didn't care about the tone, fabric, weight, stripes or not, etc. His sister LOST it on me- well, what are they supposed to wear?! Black shoes? Brown shoes?

    ME: I do not care.
Her: Well, SOMEONE has to care- what do you think they are going to show up in if you DON'T CARE?!
ME: Listen, your brothers are all grown men and I have never seen them dressed inappropriately. I have to assume they will show up in some sort of grey suit and some sort of dress shoes.

Lo and behold, THEY DID. And I cannot remember what color shoes they wore or what shade of grey it was. And they looked great. And nothing caught on fire.
