Snarky Brides

Why are some people weird about babies and weddings?

I actually don't get it. I've seen a lot of 911 posts on here saying: "OMG my BM is pregnant! What should I do?!"  I honestly don't understand what their problem is. I am missing something. Is it that they don't want a fat person in their wedding party? Or they think people will give more attention to the bridesmaid?

I'm asking this question because my sister in law just found out she is pregnant! YAY! Anyway, the few people fiance and I have told have each said something to the effect of "a 4 month old at your wedding?? yikes.. are you ok with that??"

And apparently fiance's mom was "upset for me" because sister in law isn't having the baby AFTER my wedding.

Why are some people so weird about babies?? What is the big deal? Can someone explain to me please?

Re: Why are some people weird about babies and weddings?

  • It's probably because most babies have lasers attached to their heads and since they are infants, they haven't yet mastered control and it's a pretty big risk from an insurance standpoint.
  • Dude beats me.  I'd be THRILLED if future sister in law announced she was pregnant.  I'd be thrilled for anyone else, too, but she's the only one in the family/friends I could see it happening to.

I have no idea why people react negatively.  Babies and weddings aren't mutually exclusive - they're great!

Maybe the 'zillas just get all freaked out by the idea of a BM in a different style dress?

I <3 you like whoa, Heels. And this reminds me of "I just want some fricken sharks with some fricken laser beams attached to their heads! Is that too much to ask?"

I also heard that babies breathe fire. Not all babies, just the ones who are born with tails. But still.

  • Yeah, and it would be rude to insist that all moms prove that their child is tail-less, so the only fair thing to do would be to exclude all babies.

    Also, babies attract bears.
  • If babies attract bears we're all screwed, because from what I hear so do women.  They're attracted to the menstruation!

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • A baby ate my dingo!
  • In all seriousness, I would be thrilled if one of my BMs found out she was pregnant... ummm.... actually none of my BMs are married (except my MOH) and only two are in serious relationships so finding out one of them was pregnant could go either way, but it would have absolutely nothing to do with my wedding! Eeek!

Anywho, I don't want babies at my ceremony, I don't care if they are at the reception, because my cousin's baby screamed during my sister's entire ceremony and no one took the kid out. I'm not down with screaming babies during my ceremony, while I'm trying to marry the love of my life. Not cool.
  • i dont see what the big deal is either.

although, my cousin was knocked up at her brother's wedding.  as in, she was a bridesmaid, her two year old son was the ring bearer, and she was pregnant with a guy she had left her former fiancee before just a few months earlier.  that?  THAT was awkward.

but usually pregnant bridesmaids don't bother me.  the only thing would be making sure her dress fit and she was comfortable - but that's really more her problem, not mine!  otherwise bring on the pregnancies and such.

I had it go both ways. My niece was a little over a year old on my wedding day. A few people got all weird that I was letting her attend. She's my neice, ffs! Plus, anybody that normally babysits her was attending the wedding anyway.

Then I had a few other weirdos who were like "Wait, she's invited, but she's not your flower girl? What the hell is wrong with you?". Um, what the hell is wrong with you? Who really cares that much?

Which, it worked out fine, she was quiet through the ceremony (Or at least, if she wasn't, I don't remember it) and she only got a little cranky during the reception, but we our venue let us set up a port-o-crib near my family's table, so after a little nap, she was good to go.

Oh, and 6 months later,  she still can't walk more than a few feet without face-planting, so I really have no regrets, lol.

  • I had a pregnant BM at my wedding. When she first  told me she was knocked up, I threw tampons at her and chanted "plug it up! Plug it up!" at her while she cried in the shower. It was awesome. Oh wait. Nevermind. That was a movie.

She got her revenge, though, when she had you stand right on the little taped "x" for your wedding portraits.
  • I know! And then she burned the venue down.

Heels, I just wanted you to know that I came back to this thread just to visit this post because it is quite possibly the funniest thing I've ever read. I love you so hard.
  • I'm one of those no babies at weddings type of person.  I wasn't even sure I wanted my soon to be nieces there, knowing the fits I've seen.  But FI wanted them there.. so I gave in.  However I do think for a night wedding it's just not appropriate, they get so cranky!  I'm just gonna cross my fingers and hope they behave!  And definitely drink lots of wine!   I would have no problem with a prego maid though!  One of my maids just informed me she was prego, but the kid will be born 8 months before my wedding, hopefully she doesn't expect "it" to be invited.  Maybe i'd feel differently if I was blood related to the little hooligans!  let's hope!  otherwise it might not be so smart to reproduce!Tongue out

Seriously could not agree more. If they are related, I can handle it, but if not, its not appropriate at the wedding
  • But I don't want kids at my wedding!!!!

    *stamps foot, slams door, pouts*

Babies both cry and poop!!! This is evidence that they should be hated by all!
  • Robot babies poop fire.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!!!! BEST RESPONSE TO ANYTHING EVER!
  • I think babies are fine if the parents don't mind. Any child that's not old enough to run around wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I'm having the good ol' "no kids" rule simply because we have friends who don't believe in disciplining their toddler children in any way, shape or form and  if things get broken it comes out of MY pocket. (although my 1st cousins and his nephew will be attending and all are under 8 yrs old. but they are family and behave themselves)

Example: one set of parents hung out in our living room while the child locked itself in the bathroom- opened up and spilled a whole bottle of shampoo onto the floor, toothbrushes in the toilet as well as FI's electric razor, new roll of toilet paper unrolled - and the parents didn't even flinch nor said sorry - the kid is now a year older which means he's only stronger (this past weekend he used rocks to scratch drawings into another friends' brand new car - again, no apology)

Oh and pregnant bridesmaids are BEAUTIFUL!

  • Babies smell like milk.
    Milk attracts bears.

DO YOU WANT BEARS AT YOUR WEDDING?
  • I don't see a problem with it either. I have always wanted kids there...and let me tell you...we have a bunch on the guest list. A lot of our friends have kids.

However, I am slightly nervous after my friends wedding last weekend. The two flower girls were crazy and their mother did nothing to discipline them. One of them grabbed a bouquet, threw is up on the dance floor, and made the custom made chandilere from czechoslovakia come crashing down...it was not a lovely matter. My Fi has four crazy nephews who put my friends flower girls to shame. So I can almost see where some people would prefer not to have children there, but some of them mean so much to me that I can not picture our day without them there.

  • I'm not particularly against pregnant people, I'm just against the result. And not just for my wedding. I'm against babies in general. I'm planning on the no babies/kids rule. My fiance's niece and nephew are invited, but they will be 12 and 15. So, not really kids anyway. If anyone else argues with my rule, they can suck it and stay home with Dora and Cherrios instead of free booze and cake.

[QUOTE]OK These posts are HILARIOUS. I'm sitting here laughing my butt off. I went to a "no children allowed" wedding. The bride was actually irritated that someone accidentally brought their 6-year-old daughter. I think maybe its the thought that 1. they could cry and steal the moment 2. babies are cute and can steal the moment 3. bridezilla needs it to be about HER NOMNOMNOM. But seriously, Congrats to your sister-in-law, having a baby is a WONDERFUL thing!!!!!!! and just pray the baby doesn't poo fire, like someone else said...

<div>It probably had more to do with the fact that 6 year olds are ephing annoying.. Don't assume everything is about vanity and a lustful need for attention. Some people just really don't like children. </div>
