I'm glad to hear that, I'm not a big hunting fan. No offense, MuSu, I know J enjoys it ;)

I will talk to my doctor about Buspar... I'm just so afraid of weight gain with daily medications, I've had body image issues my whole life. There's only one anti depressant I'll take, which used to work really well for depression, but that was before I had anxiety... now it makes that worse, so I can't take it. I'm basically a mess, haha.

I was prescribed a daily medication for ADD, but I don't really take it because I really don't think I actually have ADD... I just told my doctor I had trouble concentrating on school and she gave it to me. I filled it once, and luckily insurance covered it, but I have no idea how much it would be now without insurance. I think my concentration issues are part of the whole depression/anxiety deal.

Jeez, I really am a mess.

[QUOTE]Yeah, I have a really hard time choosing something I can't change later.  Whoa, I just almost spoilered.  Eek.

<div>What was the spoiler? I'm curious! You should put it in white font and that way only people who've read can highlight it and read. ;)</div>

  • I want to shoot things, still, I am so angry!
  • I really need to read these books... it sounds kind of like Harry Potter with the being in different whatever they are.

  • Thats kind of crazy that your doctor just prescribed you ADD meds after a simple one time meeting. Those are the doctors that are ruining it for the rest of them -- J had to go through 3 meetings with a psychologist and THEN meet with a doctor that could prescribe it after he read the 17 page evaluation of J.

I don't know anything about anxiety or depression meds, I wish I could help!

I don't take offense -- I'm not huge on shooting animals MYSELF, but for food purposes, I dont mind when others do it. If anything, it makes me take comfort in knowning that in an extreme situation, J could provide food for us easily.

  • Haha yeah it is kind of like HP in that way! But I'd much rather live in HP world, even with Voldemort and all that.

My sister and I got in a HUGE fight about that... she said that people like me getting it makes it harder for people like her to get and she really needs it. And she does. So that's kind of part of the reason I don't fill the prescription. I don't mind taking it once in awhile since I was prescribed it, but since I don't need it daily, that pretty much means I don't really need it at all.

Angel - the whole ADD thing irritates me. I mean, I know there IS such a thing as ADD - but it feels like people are so quick to diagnose it. A friend of mine in HS was diagnosed, but I thought it was totally BS. He could play a video game for 3 hours straight - and my understanding of the disorder is that you couldn't do that if you really have it.

ETA - I reread the post and realised it didn't come out right. You don't irritate me, the doctors that just hand the meds out like candy do.

Poke, I actually totally agree. When I told my doctor about my concentration issues, I wasn't expecting her to offer Adderall since I've never once considered ADD to be my problem. But I decided to try it since it's what she offered and I'm not going to lie, it makes me crazy productive, it takes my appetite away completely and gives me energy, so that part of it was nice. But I'm not one to take medication I don't really need, so I put the rest away for anytime I have a huge project or something... I'm not going to just throw it away since I paid for it.

  • I don't mean to accuse you of it, Angel, since it was your doctor that did it. It isn't your fault -- the doctor prescribed it pretty easily. J was so annoyed he had to go through ALL of those tests, but in the end it was better because at least that way, there was more certainty that YES, he actually had ADHD.

Poke, while your friend might've just abused the system, the video game thing isn't actually true. ADD and ADHD people can easily do something like that too, it is actually not all that uncommon. Video games provide a constant stimuli of usually different activities one after another. J can play video games for hours, but if you asked him to sit down and read a book (for pleasure) he would get bored within minutes. And there are a million other things he has troubles with too, but thats just an example.

  • We went today and met with the gentleman where the reception is being held.  (two private houses on the St Lawrence River.)  He was really great.  I am very excited about all of the plans.  Anyways, many of our guest are staying at the resort next to the two houses (also on the river).  We had spoken with the resort regaring blocking of rooms, they wouldn't do it for us.  We origianly tried to book the reception there, but because it is the July 4th holiday they wouldn't do it.  So, fast forward to today.  At the suggestion of the owner of the two house, we gave a head up the manager that some of our guest, who are staying at the resort would be picked up by boat shuttle.  She had a canary or kitten which ever you want to call it right there in the lobby, yelling at my FI and I.  She wanted to know how many guests we were having.  Um, it is none of your business, we are trying to discuss the 15 rooms at $200 bucks a night, two night minimum that you are hosting for us.  She said in no uncertain terms could the guests be picked up at the resort docks.  Apparently you have to ask permission to utilize the resorts amenities.  Ugh, I was so mad I couldn't even speak, FI had to take over.

  • I'm sorry, the manager at your venue yelled at you? You should report her to the owner, that's ridiculous. Regardless of what you did or didn't do, she has no right to yell at clients.
    imageWedding Countdown Ticker
  • That sucks, Ski. :( You would think with that many rooms booked, they would be more than happy to oblige you with using the resort amenities. Did she eventually cave?
    image
  • I agree, I was horrified, that she yelled at us right there in the lobby.

    <div>Totally agreed. That's just crazy. How unprofessional!</div>
  • Oh, and Musu - I am by no means an expert, but what you say makes sense.
  • I also agree, Ski, she absolutely should not have yelled at you. If anything, she should have remained calm as she explained any kind of resort policies with you.

  • MuSu, my sister had to go through all those tests as well, so that's why she was so mad at me. We went to different doctors in the same practice, and I guess mine is looser with medication. I don't take advantage of it, and I'm really grateful to be able to easily get what I need, but I can see where there'd be a problem if she's over prescribing anything.

  • It is actually amazing the difference that the medication makes for J. He just got it this month and he is so excited to see how it will make a difference in his schoolwork this summer and next fall. I went with him to a few of the psychologist sessions and hearing her echo back how his emotions and reactions are common for a person with ADHD really made him feel like there was hope for him. And for me, haha to be less stressed.

  • My anxiety feels better now, thank goodness... Now I'm just waiting for FI to call so I can head over there. If there's an evening thread later, I may actually participate for the first time this week since he has internet again :)

  • we just got our power back after losing it for about an hour.

ski: that is horrible.  Were you able to come up with a solution?
  • No cave on her part.  We are now looking at other options.  It will be a cold day in hell before I send any additional business her way.  I have an email out to the gentleman renting us the two houses as he is the attorney for the resort.  I am hoping he can connect us up with the owners who can tell her where it hangs!
  • Angel, I love your new sig.  Thanks for letting me vent guys, FI and I went to a tiki bar on the river and I drank three beers which took my edge off.  I know it is not the end of the world, but gosh darn, I had the best laid plans and now someone is messing with them!.

  • Thanks, Ski. I hope you are able to get something else figured out!
    imageWedding Countdown Ticker
  • I'm sorry Ski

And ditto - Angel, it's a great pic of you two! And welcome back Hockey.

It looks like I'll probably hit silver today. Sweet.

ETA - Thanks, Poke. It kind of makes me realize how much I need a tan... and a different hair stylist because my hair keeps getting brassy. Heh, own worst critics and all that.

  • angel: i was completely confused by your new sig pic, because your FI looks completely different than the last picture you had with him in it.

Haha does he look different? I guess he's not wearing a hat and his facial expression is different, so I can kinda see that.

  • I love that dress on you Angel. But I'm a sucker for pretty much anything sparkly, haha
